  4. Thats not the "KEY" on Replace Your Music....Again · · Score: 1

The key to "mass media success" right now is not the quality of the music, and not even the money needed to produce the thousands of cd copies (even if CD's were made out of gold). The difficulty of low-budget music is that they dont have the millions that bigg companies spend in promotion and publicity of the bands. That is what makes most of the crap bands famous, rich and successful after all. The problem right now, is that these companies are spending big amounts of millions in promotion, and they want their money back with it surplus.

  5. The Future is Media-less on Replace Your Music....Again · · Score: 2, Insightful

These people think that music will continue its 'logical progression' of Vinyl-->Casettes-->CDs-->Something_cool_and_small. The point they dont get is that music doesnt need an unique media to be stored anymore.

The concept of music has jumped the physical barrier of having to be stored in one determined medium. Now the medium is no longer important as it can and should be distributed to all types of medium without restrictions. How this affects artists rights, it is the same old debate...

  6. I am not working on a PhD but... on Single Speaker Unit Delivers Surround Sound · · Score: 1

...but my common sense suggests me that I dont think it will actually work good even for people with good hearing.
However, in case it did, the bad hearing of one ear wirll very probably affect the result. We get three dimensional images because we have two eyes and our brain compares the differences in the images seen by each of the eyes. The same way our brain locates the origin of a sound, by comparing the differences heard by both ears. If one of the ear has a listening problem, lets say it perceives the sound lower than the the other ear, maybe boosting the power and giving more volume to the sound which should be heard by that ear might work. I dont know if these might affect the listening of the 'good' ear, howwver. Nevertheless, if this should work there will probably be a way of 'cancelling' the unwanted power in the 'good' ear, but i dont think any normal company whould care about that.

  7. Re:I don't think this is news....... on Nintendo To Launch New Machine Next Year? · · Score: 1

This fits nicely to the idea that it might actually be a "handheld Ique" (however you spell that). An Ique with a little LCD screen might be a handheld powerful enough to actually connect it to a Screen and have a full-sized screen console when you want it. This could be nice, if I didn't have already my N64 somewhere in a box and were a few years younger.

  23. Upcoming Divx Players on Tom's Hardware Reviews First Player for DivX Video · · Score: 1

This device is great! It's not excesively expensive and the most important thing, it is the first and by the moment the _ONLY_ divx home player available. However, there will be many models coming soon this upcoming years. Just to take note, Texas Instruments, Philips, and Equator Technologies have DivX certification, which means they will hopefully release soon their own players. When Philips has his own DivX player in the shops, dont wait until Sony, Samsung, Jvc, etc etc etc have their own! Its the mp3 player story repeated. The following model will be better than the precedeeing, as is usual in this market. We are witnessing an important act here. By the way... what will sony do? Their hardware department WILL NEED to sell DivX players to stay in market, however their content department (Movies, music and so) will clearly see the proliferation of DivX players as a threat. Interresting. for further information on the different Divx Certifications take a look here: DivX certification [divxnetworks.com]

  24. The gamecube SDK information on Tom's Hardware Reviews First Player for DivX Video · · Score: 1

I think that the comment could lead to some misunderstanding. There is truly a Divx SDK for gamecube however, the use of it is not for gamecube users to burn and watch their own dowloaded divx files in your gamecube (as the Kiss player does). Several people have told me this would be possible to do with the gamecube, but as can be read in the official announcement this is not the real fact. It is known that Gamecube uses miniDVDs which have less capacity that normal dvds, still enough for actual games. By compressing games video files with divx, the game developers will save large amounts of space and still be able to deliver high quality video.
