im getting ready to move from desktop to laptop, but its because the only reason i had a desktop was for gaming. otherwise i browse the web, email, gaim, play some mp3s or small videos, nothing intensive enough to need a fast hard drive (or a monstrous one) or a dedicatred video card. i prefer a desktop, but since my ex is taking it, a laptop will be a nice change, let me move around the house a bit or go outside and relax.

but when you really need power, theres no doubt that a desktop is the way to go...but alot of people dont *need* all that power. im going to miss it though

bt.etree.org also tracks torrents of alot of jam, jazz, bluegrass and other bands. i often prefer live cuts of most of the music i listen to, when the artist is into the music the live cut of a song is usually better than a studio release, and to hear them play your favorite tune 6 different ways...for free...is great.

and because i can listen to the live music for free, it gets me interested in attending their concerts. hell, attending a live show that you love, and then downloading it on BT a few weeks later is fantastic.

indeed, if you want a cheap mobo, get a used name-brand one. Id gladly pick up a used Epox or Asus board if the Asus Im using right now died on me, and I wouldnt have a complaint about price, or concern about quality.

Anything made in the last few years is usually thoroughly reviewed on at least one hardware site, if not several; and checking support forums for something old will let you know what to expect...how to fix it...or if its problem free. The Asus I have (A7N8X iirc) has been stable and trouble free since the day i bought it, and the Epox I had before that was the same until i tried overvolting...but that was my fault :)

my brother has gone this way since he started gaming heavily last year. i always gamed during school, but i *usually* made a habit of schoolwork first, gaming second.

my schoolwork didnt change any, though it was never spectacular, but it didnt go down. My parents wont do anything about my brother and its going to ruin him. They started homeschooling him...then got busy and are never home, so he wakes up at 10, starts gaming....has lunch....keeps gaming...until he goes to bed at 11 or 12, he does next to nothing most days.

They complain, but dont want to hear me when i tell them one of them needs to park their ass at the house and teach him something.

Do yourself a favor, dont puss out and make it an accident. Lock it down. Tell him no games for however long, until his work improves, then after that youre going to regulate it. Schoolwork stays good, then he gets some gaming time. Youll only be hurting him to go behind his back and lie, without addressing the problem.
