  2. reason to broadcast while mobile on How to Podcast · · Score: 1
You could hook up your iPod and entertain most of an average-sized town with one of those, though there'd be little point in doing it in the car.

Actually, there's a very good reason to do that from a car: it's harder for the FCC to track you down if you only broadcast when you're mobile! You need to keep your antenna relatively conventional-looking, too.

Keep an eye out for non-descript vans with many antennas (FCC) or beat-up cars bristling with antennas (ARRL) following you...

If you periodically trigger a manual virus-scan, perhaps? Some folks may not always run a virus-scanner; on a system with low RAM, or if you encounter software conflicts, you may not want a resident scanner always running.

However, running a virus-scanner and AdAware periodically (weekly? monthly? if your system seems to be running slow or crashing frequently?) is handy. If you're running a low-end system because you're cheap, Google for free antivirus software amd AdAware. But get your "free antivirus" from a reputable site, or you could be infecting your computer!

It may be a nice troll, but the fact is, Google's motto "Don't be evil" is in direct conflict with the fact that they just went public. A public corporation is mandated by law to make as much money as possible (i.e. accountable to the shareholders). Remember in Fight Club when he describes how the car company figures its recalls? They do it that way because its the law. Welcome to America...

Factor in "customer goodwill", then "Don't be evil" becomes a long-term investment strategy. Screwing over your customers may turn a quick profit, but people / companies stop wanting to do business with you (if there's an alternative). In support of my position, I cite any discussion-page on Slashdot: look for anti-Microsoft sentiment.

If our President pulled a bloody coup, executing his political opponents in the House & Senate, then ran the USA as a dictatorship for a few decades... personally, I'd be damn glad if some country came in, overran his forces, setup a provisional government of my countrymen, then setup elections to replace their hand-picked government with a new, democratically-elected one. I wouldn't be blowing up their troops, I'd be cheering them on!

Why did I use that hypothetical? Because that's basically what Saddam Hussein did. It's difficult to continue calling it an "occupation", when we're turning control of the country back over to local forces & leaders as fast as we can (without simply leaving tomorrow, which might trigger an even bloodier battle for power).
