You are overlooking a key difference; Compaq was distributing a functional equivalent to the IBM BIOS that was obtained through reverse engineering. They thus had to demonstrate that their reverse engineering amounted to more than simply decompiling and reusing the IBM code, and the clearest way to demonstrate that this was done is by documenting the two-team approach. This fellow is NOT distributing a functional equivalent to OS X, and thus the clean-room doctrine is totally irrelevant. It would only apply if he had decompiled parts of the OS, twiddled whatever bits are necessary to make it work, and then distributed the patched components - as opposed to distributing only the patch itself.

I suggest you take a "remedial" copyright law class, and then try to identify the copyright or DMCA violation that has taken place. It can't be a copyright violation because the guy is not copying or distributing OS X. It can't be a DMCA violation because he is not breaking any encryption or access control measures. (Apple's choice not to implement code allowing OS X to run on non-Apple hardware is NOT an access control measure.) At worst he is liable for contributory infringement if it can be shown that the only use of the patches is for piracy and that he knew piracy was taking place while distributing the patches.

By the way, given the physically benign nature of cannabis, and if you don't have a philosophical issue with mind-altering substances, it is a rational decision to experiment with it - in secrecy due to the current political stigma - in order to determine whether its effects on your individual psyche bring you a net benefit.

Without firsthand experience, to paraphrase a more eloquent fellow, telling someone else that marijuana use is a handicap is "like a nun preaching about the evils of sex". And your credibility is demolished when your argument accidentally incorporates elements that are either slanted by propaganda or just plain false - a situation that is difficult to avoid when you are relying on third parties for such information.

But that's just my opinion/rant. Nothing personal and I'm not claiming you do any of the above.

I think you're confused on the definition of the word "force". Is WalMart forcing seniors to work long hours for little pay, just because they need money and have few other options? Why don't these children work for a Chinese company, of whose profits 70% are ploughed back into the corporate state machine? Surely the state uses some of that money to improve their quality of life?

And if not, it sounds like a good reason for them to be lobbying for more social welfare locally, rather than depending on US companies to come in and "rescue" them from their plight, meanwhile enjoying all of the regulatory and liability protections of the US government (which come at taxpayer cost), and leaving US workers (the aforementioned taxpayers) to fight over a shrinking job market.

Saying you can look into it is like claiming you can look into L1 or L2 cache via your program (notwithstanding exceptions such as cache-as-RAM during firmware initialization). The only way you can know the contents of such caches is to know what memory accesses are performed in what order, so if you have that knowledge, then yes you could "look" into the cache using it. But I don't see how that is useful for a mechanism such as you claimed the Windows VMM implements.

You are wrong about defeating the ATA password by swapping circuit boards. It is stored in the firmware area on the disk. Obviously you have never actually tried this, or you would know that it doesn't work. The only approaches that can generally work is either brute-forcing the password (requiring external hardware to rapidly power cycle the drive), or glitching the drive board at precisely the right moment to evade the password check. Neither is feasible to do at home.
