Just wanted to give some word-of-mouth advertising to this game which (due to bad marketing and bad release timing) has been largely overlooked by most gamers. It's the best RTS game out there IMHO. More strategy, less click-fest.

Download a beta from http://www.timegate.com/kow/ and then buy the game (you can pick it up now for ~$20 in most places I think).

Uh, no, that's not at all what it means. If you have a .001 chance of dying each year, that means you have a .999 chance of living, and over 50 years you have a .999 ^ 50 = about .95 chance of living. 95% is very different from 50%.

    Actually YOU are wrong.

It is .999^1000 you need to to calculate (the likelihood of living to 1000, not to 50, you got your basic numbers mixed up there, but no worry my 11 year old son does the same :-).

0.999^1000 is about 0.36, which is close enough to 50% to use as an example (and in fact he said the chance of dying every year is LESS than 1 in 1000 so if you instead use 0.9993^1000 you get pretty close to 50%)

I don't agree with his viewpoints (I think there's more to it than cell damage, what about bone wear etc) but at least his math was ok on this one.

    • Green Card process duration so far: 2 year 3 months
    • Expected remaining duration: 1 year 6 months
    • Duration of "Advance Parole" application last time: 8 month. If you don't know what this is, it is a special permit to leave and reenter the US while in the green card process. The permit is for 1 year making the 8 month application process all the more striking. You really need to apply early here. I was left not being able to travel outside the country (business or personal) for 4 months.

I'm not saying this whole idea sounds practical (and the article also says so) but getting a few thousands of these MADMEN off the ground shouldn't be the hardest part.
