i think that's it. those have all been remixed in some way or another. I guess I could add DeCSS to the list to make it 5.
I guess I'm listing memes or phenomenoms, not just fads like hotornot and realultimatepower or popular sites like slashdot and ebay.
If you're gonna teach, teach math or physics. They're both "real" sciences, and much more portable. Why help put others where you don't seem to enjoy being?
I'm a EE/CS major thinking about switching to physiology and business and going to chiropractic school. You don't outsource your chiropractor.
I've been talking about this for years, literally, since the first maps came out on the internet. I played duke nukem and then I went to map something on the same day, and I said to myself, why isn't this in 3-D. How hard can that be?
Well, apparently it was too hard for everyone except google. All hail, the mighty google.
The real threat to MS is clearly malware/spyware/adware. the fact that everyone in my family who isn't a CS major has a ton of popup shit all over their computer, IE toolbars called seach assist and search buddy and bonzai search assist buddy and other such bullshit. The fact that Christmas is known as the "ad-aware, spybot S&D, Hijack This, Firefox, Thunderbird lecture circuit" time of year. The fact that people who have bought a mac are pleasantly using their computers while the rest of us are fixing, securing, patching, repairing, disinfecting and updating ours. All of these are what's killing windows. Not just nix, not just "free software" not just apple.
If MS could sick their policy people on making it fucking illegal to be a company that profits from secretly installing shit on people's computers then maybe they wouldn't have me and so many others saying " my next PC will be a mac, no question".
because it's true, my next pc will be a mac, no question.
The fact that the RIAA can get a 12 year old locked up for downloading 3 megs of a nelly song, and yet cool web search is legally allowed to fuck up every computer on the internet is sickening. And if MS wants to stay in business they have two choices. 1) hire cool web search programmers to infect the OSX 2) take a page out of the RIAA book and purchase some congressscritters and make this spyware/malware shit illegal as fuck. then find and prosecute the perps.
Something has to be done, even if that something means buying a mac (and enjoying computing once again).
Seriously. I have a laser pointer right here beside me. I've often shined it at the moon, to see if it would make the moon turn red, but the sun is much more powerful than my laser pointer. So I tried to hit the International Space Station, to see if I could turn it red, but it didn't seem to do much if anything. So I shined it at a cloud, and maybe I hit the cloud, but the laser was still pretty close to being a dot and I couldn't see the dot. I shined it at a mountain, and same thing, couldn't tell if I hit the mountain or not. I shined it at the house all the way at the end of the street, and I saw that.
I'm gonna try using binoculars to see if I can see it when I shine it at the mountain.
But does anyone know how far the typical laser pen will shine?
The UofA has some great titles, from rurfc1, the r u ready for calculus program, to slopes and other diffeq titles. All free, all good.
The rur series is GOLD! I've installed in on all computer I own and made CDs just because its the kind of thing some new math dept head could take off the website and you'll never see it again.
http://math.arizona.edu/~www_main_2002/software/ ua sft.html
They should do a study to see who is more likely to purchase.
The fact is the damn advertisers trick stupid users into clicking the ads. This may increase the hit count, but it doesn't turn into sales at the same rate as people who actually wanted to follow the ad.
When a person follows an ad intentionally he is much more likely to purchase the thing being sold.
Thus, I think this is a matter of quality vs. quantity.
If someone rejects FF users because of this they're gonna miss out on sales.
of course, the website that would do it won't care, as they get paid by the hit.
Of course, we can always tell them we're IE with the user/agent string, so nothing to worry about.

this is a real fucking post you stupid ass lameness filter. It happens to consist of one god dammned mother fucking letter. Ok? Is that so fucking hard for you to comprehend. THe answer to his question is A. Just A. I shouldn't have to word it in a complete sentence to post it. ANd for that matter, it doesn't take 20 fucking secongs to post A. It takes about 1 second to type. See, I'll show you. Ready....;
Go.A.Done..001 seconds. So fucking let me post this already because now the rant to avoid the lameness filter will overshadow the fucking joke, which, I'll admit was lame, but not lame in the way you suspected.
The primary use of DECSS, just like the microchip in this case, is to make the DVD operate with linux, just like the microchip was used to make the printer operate with the toner cartridge. They weren't trying to pirate the printing program, and that's why dmca doesn't apply. those who used decss to play movies weren't trying to pirate the movies so why didn't this outcome happen in that case?
make it illegal to buy, sell, trade, manufacture, import or possess a bic pen. Call it the INDUCE2 law.
Then we will all have safe bikes. Kryptonite doesn't need to fix their locks, they just need a stronger lobbying arm. I hear Orrin Hatch and Fritz are suckers for a sob story like this one.
ironically, you're anti-anti-bush people. Why can't you simply be pro-bush. Why do you have to rain down upon the anti-bush crowd with your anti-anti-bush agenda.:-)
True Dat! It's simple really. The people on the left say go ahead and make it all available, and I trust the smart people to read all the arguments and make an intelligent decision. (in other words, we're right, so we don't care if your stupid ass backwards ingnorant dumbass ideas are available). On the other hand, people on the right are simple minded boobs who like to be told what to think (the purple teletubby is gay) and like to tell other people what to do or not do and therefore hate anything that challenges their control and the simple world that control allows their small minds to live within.
If Iraq was behing 9-11, which we all know is what they want us to believe, then why not tax iraq for the wiretapping required because of 9-11. We'll simply take it out of their oil sales, like garnished wages. same with every other terror-related cost. what's so hard about this?
I think CBS is the worst. How hard can it be to offer march madness on four channels. There are 4 sites. There can only be one game at a time. You should be able to watch Channel A for one regional, channel b for the other, channel C for another and channel d for the last. They sort-of have this with the pay-per-view package, but then there's the free local station CBS. Well they're gonna show you what they think youw ant to watch. And if htey think your team should be shown, then you get it for free. Great right? except to do this, they stupidly block out that game on the pay per view (why? you've already paid for it, it's free on CBS, oh yeah, to force you to watch their ads) so now you can't watch your team on channel B, you ahve to watch your team on channel 13, or whatever station CBS where you live. Only they decide your game isn't intersting and switch to showing some other game. So now you can't watch your team on channel 13 adn you can't watch your team on channel B, but you can watch someone else play on both channel C and channel 13. WTF????
This is ridiculous. CBS SUCKS worse than NBC for this reason alone.

This is a case where the little guy would want protection from the big guys.
GOOGLE, Apple, Microsoft, ANYONE
EVEN
Yes. I'm gonna say it.
Even AOL.
PAYPAL SUCKS.
The only people I'd veto would be RealPlayer.
On the heels of the Apple/Intel merger Microsoft and AMD have announced a merger of their own. ....remember, you heard it here first.
Wow, anyone can do this!

It's one thing to die a hundred times trying to get to the next level, but to get shocked so bad that you fall down a hundred times?
yeah, no long term affects there.
I miss my old Sony Trinitron Monitor with the dual input and the little slide switch in the front.
This flat panel doesn't hold a candle to the trinitron, even with it's little lines.
Sadly, it wasn't mine to keep. It was owned by work. (I should have stolen it, they wouldn't have noticed)
