yeah. "the consumers are quietly hoping that the music stores will start selling songs compatible with P2P" thus improving the quality and selection available and removing that tedious conversion stage which is currently putting so many off P2P.
if you RTFA, you see apparently battery time is hardly affected, because the CPU is not the major battery drain. i would guess something else like the screen is.. and probably the flash cart if you have one. IIRC the GBA has an ARM7, I don't have the specs to hand. but they (the OCers) say there is very little heat build up and no need for cooling, and since heat=power everything tallies. this is very different from PC overclocking huh:)
you know, whenever something like this comes up, someone always makes a funny comment relating it to sex. and it is funnny, and it does get you modded up. but you know - and bear with me here, i'm in a thoughtful kinda mood - not everything in life has to be about sex. it may be the primary purpose of our genes to reproduce, but it doesn't have the be the #1 purpose of us. i'm sure the people doing this don't think it well help them score with chicks. so what, people do silly/apparently pointless things all the time, it's called art or sport or several other things and it's what makes life interesting and us (a little) different from animals. now, i wouldn't want to play video games over & over or make videos of it or make websites about it but if it amuses people great. i had a look at the zelda video because i had this game as a kid and it brought back some memories and i can respect the skill that was shown. and I was thinking, after watching a couple of minutes, skipping to the credits and hearing that tune again, the game is 18 years old, which is pretty amazing, and it definately qualifies as art. sorry if that makes me sad, and sorry about this rant. btw i do have a sense of humour and manage my own +5 funnies sometimes, not that that helps me score either..;)
> Aren't there a lot of P2P programs that already prevent being traced?
No, there aren't, because P2P by its nature requires each peer to know the address of the other peers.. and "anonymous" networks like Freenet are hopeless for music (so slow & poor content). You may be getting confused by blocklists which prevent certain address ranges connecting with your P2P client.
um in case you are a notable public figure (and I believe you) can I make a suggestion: you implement policies to (as part of their education) teach kids not to throw things in their teachers' eyes.
Better idea than trying to work through a list of all the things that could cause eye injury (pens? paper aeroplanes?). This common sense idea brought to you from Britain.
(mods: sorry if this was off-topic, but it needed to be said and i'm saving my mod points).
"Yo-yos being banned here will set a precedent." hmm maybe you're trolling/joking.
Seriously, with approximately sixty billion dollars in the bank, exactly what prevents M$ from producing a secure OS ?
OK let me take a crack at this. Because they are trying to come up with a very usable OS. 'Easy to use' and 'Secure' are to some extent mutually exclusive. Not totally, but it's a balance, and in the same way as airplane mnfrs famously sometimes don't make improvements to the safety of their 'planes until after the crash, MS hasn't made the necessary changes until after worms etc. got really bad in 2003 and they started losing customers. This doesn't mean they won't make the changes and continue to do well (no I'm not a Microsoft fanboy).
It's been mentioned once, but seriously, it's so much better outdoors. I've heard sex outdoors can also be good (wanking outside doesn't count - but is still probably healthier. um, don't get caught).
(btw, is this topic amusing or depressing? insightful or flamebait? not sure.)
"Why is it that when the "Intarweb" is involved, legislators suddenly lose touch with reality?"
Because they don't understand it. They're old, people read them horror stories and it freaks them out. This is not a troll, I really think it's at the root of most of this crazy legislation. Naturally this will take decades to fix, and by then the legislators/judges will be out of touch again. Laws are always playing catch up with reality. It's particularly obvious now only because 'reality' is changing so fast.
Anyway, I think the grandparent (or was it great-) has too simplistic a view.
better yet, if you have that much capital, you can invest it something safe or guaranteed to make money - like a bank, or property.
gambling imho is only good for two groups - poor people looking for a lucky break (risky) and rich people looking for some fun (safe:).. oh and crooks:p
um, booster rocket took it to Mach 6
on
NASA Tests X-43A
·
· Score: 2, Informative
Not to put a damper on things, but according to the BBC article, it was already going at about Mach 6 at final seperation thanks to a conventional rocket booster. Then the scramjet took it up another Mach in 10 seconds. That is an excellent demonstration of the scramjet IMHO, but if it hadn't made Mach >5 (or >6) something would have been very wrong!;)
"All the best U.S. trends get exported to the UK."
and so does the best FUD
"seven million people in Britain steal music..." (it's not.. you know the argument. + if so many are doing it, maybe the law needs some reworking)
"downloading music from illegal sites" (no they're downloading from networks, peers, and the networks are legal. just makes the geek in me cringe when journalists do this)
"There is no clearer evidence of the damage that illegal downloading is doing to British music and the British music industry" (has this been proven yet? Is it just bad for for the BPI or is it bad for British Music - there's a huge difference in scope there!)
"The illegal downloaders tend to go for the most popular artists, but in the long term unknown artists will lose out because record companies will not have the money to invest in new artists." (very very unproven - i've found lots of new music that i couldn't buy, because i wouldn't know about it, if it weren't for free file trading).
and remember the final FUD point (assuming this is the same as in America) they don't get you for downloading! it's uploading. this is the big one to try to scare people off. though of course, not sharing ruins the network ultimately.
"They are more likely to live in London and the South-East where internet broadband connections have taken off more quickly than in other regions." (so they are more likely to be rich.. so they are not cheap, they are more likely to buy your music if you sort your act out).
Now a few questions I want to ask:
Which networks are they monitoring?
How are they deciding who to go after and who to ignore?
(this is the part where i want to save my own ass getting sued).
finally:
"allows tracks to be bought over the internet for less than 1 pound each." That's nearly TWO dollars at the current exchange. get the h*ll outta here! a dollar is already too much and too little for artists; rip-off Britain strikes again!
"I cut the wires at the pole and the house and rolled up the wire and kept it"
ROTFL. Well done for doing what many of us would like to do, but don't have the nerve. Although, i'm not sure how well my ADSL connection would continue to work over a cellphone..
that should make it 80 quid, which would compete with the Gamecube here (normally ~75). fat chance though, things never seem to even come close to what the exchange rate says they "should" be. Anyway I'd still take the 'Cube, even if they were the same price.. i thought the x-box might make me a nice media-player but by the time it does reach that price it'll probably be underpowered for mpeg4:/ oh well.
Yet another reason to have a firewall running folks ('keygen wants to phone home, let it?'), especially if you're up to sommat. (of course, someone stupid enough to run a dodgily named executable with only few sources from Kazaa network, probably isn't going to have a properly set up firewall either..).
Although having said all that, i'm not running a firewall atm, but then i'm behind NAT and not doing anything dodgy (and feeling lucky, punk!)
Sygate Personal Firewall and Kerio (sp?) seem to be favourites last time i checked.
nice idea, but if it's anything like here in the UK, they buy from you at a really crappy rate. i haven't got the figures to hand, sure someone will look them up.
For anyone wondering what parent is ranting about:
Dr. Crone calls the procedure SMART surgery (Specialized Minimal Access Resection Techniques). This technique is one of many new surgical procedures offered by the Minimally Invasive Neurosurgical Division (The MIND) at Cincinnati Children's.
I think that's the paragraph that really got him going. I agree it's stupid (we're talking about brain surgery here aswell.. these are some awful puns. jees.)
DK64 came out two years (IIRC) before 'Tooie. I'm not arguing with you, i'm just wondering how you rationalise Rare "starting to suck" on the N64. I thought Conker was meant to be good, it certainly had the Rare/British sense of humour.. JFG seems a pretty standard shoot/collect-em-up.. don't see how it is better than DK64 (which is also heavy on the collecting stuff side). Each to his own i guess, but you have got modded up +4 insightful so i wondered what you meant. I haven't heard of Ghoulies or SF Adv. i guess they are GameCube games, so they're probably after the Rare people left Rare co., right?
finding life on Mars would probably be the biggest scientific discovery in a lifetime. finding water doesn't really do anything for me (sorry!):) Unless you're further in the story than me and they HAVE found life.. !
- MS SP & critical updates & TweakUI
- Proxomitron (this is old now, might look for sommat else?)
- Firefox, Thunderbird & Java runtime
- 7-Zip
- Daemon Tools
- foobar2000 and plugins (mmm sweet)
- Media Player Classic, and QuicktimeAlt and RealAlternative, ffdshow and ReClock (the video package)
- BitTornado, SoulSeek & eMule (the P2P package )
- IrFanView (mmm sweet)
- OpenOffice (pain to set up) & MS Office
I just had a primary hard drive die so I had to think about this todayyeah. it was supposed to be a joke. i agree. soz.
yeah. "the consumers are quietly hoping that the music stores will start selling songs compatible with P2P" thus improving the quality and selection available and removing that tedious conversion stage which is currently putting so many off P2P.
again from RTFA.. everything runs faster, but the OC is an option that can be toggled via a key combo.
if you RTFA, you see apparently battery time is hardly affected, because the CPU is not the major battery drain. i would guess something else like the screen is.. and probably the flash cart if you have one. IIRC the GBA has an ARM7, I don't have the specs to hand. but they (the OCers) say there is very little heat build up and no need for cooling, and since heat=power everything tallies. this is very different from PC overclocking huh :)
with a flash cart.
um, that's all I need to say.

So no takers yet then. The guy has zero feedback, don't trust him

wow my largest post ever. yeah, i love music.
why do PAL DVDs have to support MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio? i've never heard of this (and i'm a PAL r2 DVD buyer). curious.
