1) Because the Constitution is not nearly as restrictive as Ron Paul would have us believe. It does enumerate a number of specific powers, but adds "To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers" which allows for much latitude to what is allowed to do.
2a) because there is no violation. 2b) because requiring an amendment (which requires several years at a minimum to pass) for the normal day-to-day actions of the Congress, which so gridlock the national government, as to force to destruction. (IOW, Why do you hate America?)
>> It's the same with women. If the girl didn't have some fun when she was a teenager, she will regret it later and try it when shes 30-40 years old, and usually married.
Interesting that you apply that only to women.... Do you:
a) find it inconceivable that a man NOT screw around as a teenager
or
b) feel that such a man would nevertheless NOT regret it later
or
c) Think it's OK for a married 40 yo man to play around
??
Um... It's Verizon's job to advertise the products IT IS SELLING! The hardware manufacturers & the carriers (thru long-term contracts) are make way more off WP7 sales than MS is.
It's more than just NDA. Pretty much all writers (Magazine, newspaper, Ad copywriter etc) sign over their copyright to their employers. That's pretty much what the contract is asking.
A key difference is that the writers are being paid, while the doctor is merely offering to perform a service (for which the patient still has to pay)
Bank close at 3PM, because, in the pre-computer days, there was several hours worth of counting & bookkeeping that had to be done between kicking the last customer out & close for the night.
Why they STILL close at 3PM, is... well... tradition, I guess.
Hey, Anonymous.... I post ONE COMMENT is the last 8 years, and this is deemed a pathetic "fixation" on MS? (Oh, Yeah.... And the one from 8 years ago wasn't about MS). But thanks for reminding me why a deemed this message board a waste of time 8 years ago.
Let's say, for example, that Microsoft had:
1) Taken an existing web standard and made proprietary changes to it (promising to make the changes open-source, "in the future"), and
2) Implemented those changes in IE and MSN/Bing/Live.Com making those sites faster when using IE.
Wouldn't everyone here being screaming "Anti-trust" and demanding an SEC investigation?
However, the plain fact is that the doctrine of premption is an EXPLICIT STATEMENT of intent to act WITHOUT an imminent threat. That is it's POINT.
And you say that like it's a good thing.
Just because you give a fancy name ("doctrine of premption") to an unprovoke act of aggression, doesn't make it moral or legal. This exact same "doctrine of premption" could be used to justify Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, the USSR's invasion of Afghanastan, the Japanese's bombing of Pearl Harbor, al Quida's attack on the World Trade Center, and pretty much every other act of war ever committed.
In point of fact, Iraq could on any given day decide to provide biological or chemical weapons to a third party.
Except, they can't since they don't have them anymore....
Unless you believe that he never had them. Which would be a tough sell to the Kurds and Iranians who were gassed.
Well, obviously the HAD them at one time --- The USA (actually Reagan/Bush/Rumsfeld) *sold* them to Hussain -- But having them once is not the same as having them now.
By the terms of the peace treaty after the first Gulf War, Iraq was required to destroy them. Iraq documented destorying them, the UN confirmed that they were destoryed, and there is ZERO evidence that any remained in Iraq.
Further, a chemical-payload capable missile, such as HAS been found since the war, could be launched well within 45 minutes.
Um.. No... Since they what the found were just alumuniun tubes, might possibly be used for chemical-payload capable missile, but could be used for other things. There were also conversional warhead missiles found, but the range on those were so limited that they could barely reach an population center, let alone the US.
You are all just playing word games. Things Bush did say were:
Indeed, there are quite a few facts on the side of those who say the administration claimed the threat was imminent. In Cincinnati on Oct. 7, 2002, Bush said, "Iraq could decide on any given day to provide a biological or chemical weapon to a terrorist group or individual terrorists." Bush reiterated the claim from British Intelligence that Saddam could launch a chemical missile attack with 45 minutes. Various Cabinet members referred to this or that threat as "immediate" and "gathering." There was a lot of talk about "reconstituted nuclear programs" and even "mushroom clouds."
(quote taken from http://www.townhall.com/columnists/jonahgoldberg/j g20031017.shtml who's on your side, and playing the same word games you are.)
What he is descibing is clearly "imminent threat" whether or not he used those specific words.
So, Rich Hollywood types (by a whooping 6 to 4 margin) excise their Constitutional right to support a candidate with their money and voice.
Shall we post of list of the CEO's of corporations that give millions of dollars to Conservative candidates. Actually, great way they like spend their money is to fund "think tanks" which give large "research grants" to writers like Ann Coulter. Which is why their are so many Liberal-Bashing books out --- It's very profittable to write one, even if it doesn't sell a copy.
Like it or not, people (sadly) care what Oprah thinks. Or Fat Rosie.
And Similarly sad is that people care what Rush and O'Reilly say --- The difference is the Oprah & Rosie spend maybe 2% of their shows on politics (and the rest pushing TV shows and movies), while Conservative spend 100% of theirs pushing their bias.
Um... Let's see.... Mayor Clint Eastwood, Rep Sonny Bono, Sen. Fred Thompson, Rep. Fred Grandy, Gov Arnold Swarztenegger, and um.. Pres. Ronald Reagan.
Yes, the Right just hated it when movie actors get involved in politics....
And explain to me exactly how Katie Couric, Bryant Gumbel, or Dan Rather (et al) are promoting their "Liberal" agenda? Perhaps they once asked GWB why he lied about his drunk driving, or why he lied about his cocaine use, or why he lied about why he sent US soldiers to DIE in Iraq, when they really should have been grill Clinton one more time about his sex life....
Did you know that 90% of the people you see on CNN, CBS, ABC, and NBC news broadcasts...all of those toadies vote Democrat.
And it surprises you that the people who see everyday what a corrupt lot Republican politicans are realize that the best thing for the country is to get rid of them?
Now, it may be inconceivable to a Republican like you, it is possible for a person with integrity to report the news without tilting it to the person bias.
The "Liberal Media" is just a myth create by the Reagan Administration as an excuse to explain why he never had a press conference (The real reason: He was already so affected by Alzheimers that whenever he spoke without a script, he put his foot in his mouth, necessitating a speedy press release explaining "what the President meant to say was....")
To be usable, the new system would have to mimic the current one, with some bits dedicated to a manufacturer ID number, and some bits for a product-id-within-that-manufacturer numbers, with the new system adding more bits for individual-item-id-within-product number.
Each field must be made large enough to accomidate all manufacturers (ie, CocaCola has few products, but ships millions of each, while a book publisher would have thousands of products but with some only shipping a few hundred). This means that a lot of bits are "wasted" -- although they would be available to the manufacturer for their own subdivision. (Let's say it give 32bits for individual item id. A vender could say 1 bit indicated continient it made one, 3 bit for the country, 3 bits for the factory within that country; 7 bit, year; 4 bits, month; 5 bits, DOM; 9 bits, items made that day.)
Because they are intended to interface between the user and a proprietary piece of hardware, with the primary requirement of fully accessing those features. (Why would any user sacrafice being able to use some feature of a device his owned, merely for it to be "compatible" with something he didn't own?)
Linux, with it's concept of "Open Source Code/You want a new feature, you write it", is actually hundreds of distinct proprietary OSes.
No, I'm saying the founding father recognized "the rules" you imagine as being ridiculously restrictive, and never imposed them on the government.

If the malware purveyors have broken the law, let the government prosecute them as needed.
That's much like say, "we don't need firefighters; we'll just put the arsonists in jail"
Private companies are motivated by profit.
And governments are motivated by power.
I know which I prefer.
ahem... Profit is the CAUSE of most malware....

how refusing NEW activations is screwing over EXISTING customers?
Bank close at 3PM, because, in the pre-computer days, there was several hours worth of counting & bookkeeping that had to be done between kicking the last customer out & close for the night. Why they STILL close at 3PM, is... well... tradition, I guess.
I was just about to say "Can't argue with that logic".... Then I remembered that this was /. We can argue with any logic....

Which, of course is typical Republican spin. Did Bush actually say the words "Iraq is an imminent threat". Maybe, maybe not. But it all irrelevant...
What possible reason could there be for us to go to WAR with Iraq, if it were not an imminent threat? His actions speak loud than his words...
People who listened to NPR scored the highest on the test. People who listened to Fox News scored the lowest.

John Hightower had a very popular liberal radio talk show. When Disney bought the media group he worked for, his show was canceled.
Go blow your fucking head off, loser. And, we should leave the world in the charge of nice, rational, peaceloving people... like you?

You are confusing a "closed" system with a "proprietary" one. A proprietary system need not be closed, and a closed system need not be proprietary.
Linux, with it's concept of "Open Source Code/You want a new feature, you write it", is actually hundreds of distinct proprietary OSes.
