This RH guy is just totally clueless. There's not really much more to say. It might all be taken out of context a bit, but even so - this is foot in the mouth as bad as it gets.
I mean, if it's replacing the application, it's kinda going to have to quit it!
Not at all. You've obviously never tried. What's loaded is loaded - you won't get any new NIBs if the old ones are removed - but you're perfectly capable of overwriting the disk image of a running process.
... that this was not a rational decision (to give Hanscom the sack). It goes to show Billy Boy and Thade are riled up and easily threatened. What's that adage Eric Raymond uses to describe the behaviour of the enemy?
One other thing it has over Safari is the ability to *not* wait for the whole stupid page to load before continuing.
This is a diffy one, and I think Camino does it too, and it really irks me to no end and has done for some time with all browsers.
I think the key is learning how to ignore threads you already have out there. You can't kill them, so you have to ignore them. There's a performance trade-off, but it need not be so bad.
I've done something similar with a network utility and it seems to work OK.
but do believe that Apple looked at Microsoft This is what worries me. I don't want anything from the Beast on my computers - not even their way of thinking. That's what I got Macs for in the first place.
This is so exciting! Microsoft with their own language! I can hardly get the words out. Strains of Eiffel and Ada! Wow! How wonderful!
Microsoft are continually at the pinnacle of innovation in our industry, as we all know. That they should donate yet another technological breakthrough is simply too amazing for words.
Now anyone who believes a word of the above can get on a one-way Trailways to Redmond. In such case, they need you there.
how hard is it going to be to compile DooM 3 on OS X 10.3 Panther, compared to PC? Not hard at all. A lot faster with Xcode. But do you mean just compile, or do you mean write?
What are the roadblocks for PC-centric guys like myself? Being PC-centric. Is this going to be a Carbon contraption, or are you going to do it right, in Cocoa?
You also risk never being able to return to a PC again. You'll be totally spoiled.
'Cringely' never rises high above the lowest common denominator, and as so often in the past, makes a fatal error, namely taking for granted (or for the sake of an argument, which is almost worse) that Steve Ballmer means what he says and is dedicated to his work the same way Linus is.
My grandad was in Lindon ages ago. He wandered into SCO HQ - he didn't have an appointment there, he was just looking for a toilet. Thankfully, the receptionist let him use one.
But on the way out, grandad forgot to take his attache with him. He realised his mistake about half an hour later, and went back to get it, but it was gone.
Grandad had been working on his own version of Unix. It was all in his attache on printouts. He has more copies, but that's not the point:
Grandad KNOWS someone from SCO took that attache and used its contents. He KNOWS SCO Unix is a rip-off of his own code.
On behalf of my grandad, I would therefore like to offer the following:
As grandad owns the SCO Unix code, and SCO own the Linux code, any home user out there running any distro of Linux today can obtain a lifetime license from grandad by sending him a bottle of Wild Turkey to the address below.
We'll all wait around until YOU write an operating system; we'll see how good that is; and when you tell us you have bills to pay, we'll tell you to do what you're telling all your friends in the community to do right now.
Bill Gates can say things like that because he's a great guy and he's a CHIEF SOFTWARE ARCHITECT and he knows a lot more about programming than anyone else in the whole wide universe.
But I'm still glad I'm not playing poker against him.
Banner ads have already failed. The global click through ratio is under three tenths of a percent.
They say they're keeping some to study the issue. If you're lucky, you get a new box and nothing more will be wrong with it.

This guy's a tough act to follow.
What? Better programming?
Are you against progress?
When they get a whole computer going, the first thing I want to know is if that danged cat of Scrodinger's is alive or not.

Has there ever been a better way to fight them?

I still don't know why Apple threw the KHTML folks the bone when they should have supported Mozilla.
Oh if ever. Gecko apps might take longer to load, but seriously: Safari cannot hold a candle to Camino.
I think you got something there, Mr Qzukk...

Yeah, you can't buy any hardware for $65 from Apple - damn damn...
It's been Apple, Apple, Apple in the news for weeks. What are the Microsofties up to?
Oh yeah - they say they patched a vulnerability in Hotmail.

Thank you.
I got a better idea.

I think I'll wait to see what Steve Ballmer says. Odds are he'll discover that SuSE/SUSE is just as insecure as all the other Linuxes.
Better safe than sorry.

This guy is funnier than Billy Crystal. Funnier than Robin Williams.
But people laugh with them, not at them.
Remember Steve: you couldn't buy your way into Munich.
If you really believed that, you wouldn't have them running Windoze.
