  1. The point on Spammers Pleased with 'Anti'-Spam Act · · Score: 2, Funny

is that the govvies are at least TRYING (however uselessly) to solve some of the spam problem. I would've given each spammer 40 lashes, but seeing as special interest groups (including spammers) dominate government nowadays, I'll take what I can get.

If they are so great at predicting future trends, why didn't they realize what the mainstream computer user wants?

They, IMHO, lost the Intel/AMD war because they tried to convince people that (truthfully or not) their processors, though with less MHz or GHz, were faster than Intel's. This may have been true but the average user just wants it to look good on paper. Likely the only reason they are turning a profit is because of the relative expensiveness of the new Intel processors compared to AMDs.

Wonder how they are going to pull that off. Possibly making a "combat cloud" when you start a battle with a baddie?

Average users don't use linux because it is a very high wall to leap over, and they are comfortable with IE and Word, and are not the least bit concerned with security, unless they regularly make purchases online.

Businesses don't use Linux (in desktops) because the cost in time and money of training all the users to switch from dos-based to unix-based systems.

I agree that Linux is not ready for the desktop yet, because the hurdles are currently too high. I think by saying this the Red Hat CEO is implying that they are working on a way to make the transition much much easier.

as much as many people want them to be. Why? No government.

The authorative figures in these games tend to be mindless drones of NPC's that MIGHT talk to you if you click on them, but will say the exact same thing to everyone else.

Many people will think that a society is based on trade or crafting, but really its a government that ties it all together. I really wish I could get the king of Midgard to gather all our forces and kick ass, but it isn't gonna happen, because people (well, sane people with jobs) dont have the time to get on a game every time the game "needs" them.

Also it is very hard to mod any console game. Why? You need either the source code, a thing that you will get from devs when you pry it from their cold, dead fingers, or a level editor, which most devs don't release. Also, to make a kick-ass mod like counterstrike, you need to use a code editor, and they are only on PCs. Why would anyone want to mod a console game? Its like wanting to run Linux on an X-box.
