Well, its not bullshit. Sony demonstrated 8 layer blue-ray discs, so there would be no problem doing similar with red lasers and only 2-3GB per layer for 20GB of storage. Of couse, imho, to added complexity of multilayers (including long term storage uncertaincies) for outweights the "no blue laser needed" simplification.
I hear you, friend. I gave up on using dvds for archiving. I just calculated that with current HD-prices, and buying quality dvds (with those 150 spindle for only 60 euro things i dont think 1 copy would be enough), ect ect. The botton line was: DVDs are cheaper after 300 or 400GB (to amorize the burner), BUT only if you are not calculating time. But you need to pack data togeter to 4.3GB, keep some sort of storage sanity, ect. Not to mention having huge piles of discs to seek through, pick the right media, hoping its not defective, ect. On my raid, its just one click on the folder...
Also, something says me that you could easily use their improvements for red laser for blue laser, too. 25GB blue-ray discs are only the beginning, since sony already announced >100GB multilayer discs. Those otoh are the absolute end of potential of long wavelenght laser.
Errr, you get that wrong. This type of hologram (didnt rtfa, but sounds like a amplitude one) needs parallel light in the wavelenght used to create them. So i guess the "special flashlight" is simply a led-light.
Are you sure its 16MB? At the time of 40MB HDs and early 386, 2-4MB was outrageous, 16MB unheard of. I still remember paying 400DM (at that time 300$) for 4MB extra... for my 486...

How scary. I created enough h2s in my chemistry lab course to make the whole room stink and nobody died. But SCARY. did you know that a car filled with gas has enough gasoline and benzon in it to kill more than 1000 people? Why dont you make some poisonous gas scare?
How MACItiots who are like "Macs arent overpriced, you are paying for quality, users of pcs are people who cant spent money for a real computer",ect for years now all unisolo see the virtues of the cheap mac clusters and how they are better than everything because they are so CHEAP. Well, a good answer would be using their own argument against them: Who buys MAC-clusters buys CHEAP, who buys power5/itanium/opteron clusters buys premium quality...
Well, E=mc^2. If your explosive releases energy while, well, exploding, the resulting chemicals WILL be slightly lighter. Atomic bindings are only in the eV and not MeV range like nuclear ones, but mass loss is mass loss.
dont be an idiot. A game that is only solvable by 10000 times of trial and error (did you feed the dog?) has nothing to do with coolness.

The reason is that you dont "play" it anymore after the first time, but walk through it while watching the gags. You know how to beat the puzzles, so the humor doesnt became a annoying distraction.
One reason that those old lucasarts adventures were so "successfully funny" was IMHO that there was no dead and no death end in the game. Whatever you did/tried, you couldnt die, and so you would check out cool stuff plus didnt have to endure the same stuff again and again...
Your evil genius get a "bodyguard" of the other sex after reaching a certain notority. Of course this "bodyguard" cannot fight but looks suspiciously, lets say unbodyguardly...
Why? Serious question. If you dont have acrobat installed, it will just prompt a download. Oh what a desaster!!! If you have it installed, it will open the pdf. Witness the HORROR!!! THe only thing you could lose is about 5 seconds (starting Acrobat reader or clicking away the file save prompt), but i guess if you value your time that much you wouldnt be reading/.
Well, a very cool (?) implication of this technology would be that chip performance would be depending of the, well, performance of the die used and the enviroment. So increasing voltage and decreasing die-temperature would make to chip faster automatically... (i can see the "the xxx-chip would have won against the yyy-chip if they had used a bigger HSF" flames comming...)
or, no. I meant bad sectors. I agree that its mostly a sign of a hd shortly before dead, but normaly it has days/weeks left, MUCH more than enough to do a rebuild even of a 1TB array...
But you cannot go everywhere. There are 100s of locations i really would like to see sometimes, but i have neiter the time nor the money (flight, hotel, vacation, ect). Just plugging in after work for a hour or two isnt the real thing, but much better than tv-reports or books... (nothing against books, but the whole "imagination" thing is prone to backfire in that case:) )
What are you doing for a better world today? How about selling your computer and feed some children in nigeria with the money? Would have the nice side-effect that we wouldnt have to hear your wise-ass remarks.
Hm... My controller just points some new messages in the system log and remaps the defect sectors automatically. Failure of "a few blocks" isnt a disk loss.
Or what if god just appeared in new york and re-errected the twin towers? Imagine the shock and awe!!! (some questions are really dumb. mine was, yours too)
The point is "why are you storing your raws or high res JPEGs on the ipod". Its no image tank. You cant plug in your sd-card or microdrive to "empty" it. Its just pointless.

Those sides coying wikipedia articles and slapping them on webpages with ads. Its allowed, yes, but you dont have to like or promote it.
