  1. Re:Interesting on Game Pricing Trends Examined · · Score: 1

I paid $40 for Final Fantasy on NES in 1992. That was after the second installment (or fourth, depending on how you look at it) was out and retailers were trying to unload their stocks of NES games to make room for SNES.

Almost all of those games are sequels or offshoots of previously-released games. Part of the reason I rarely reach for the consoles anymore is because pretty much everything that's coming out is a rehash of something I've already played.

  6. Unreal 2, anyone? on On Videogame Length - Less Is More? · · Score: 1

I'm glad I did not buy this game - it only took me a couple of hours to beat it, and once you finish it there's really no replay value. Good game, but way too short. Same goes for Parasite Eve on Playstation, while I'm thinking about it.

20-30 hours should be the target zone for an average finish (not scouring the entire world looking for secrets, next-to-impossible optional boss battles, etc). Any less and you're pretty much not getting your money's worth, unless you pirate the game or wait until it's in the bargain bins.

Stores shouldn't hold any responsibility so long as they're not selling M-rated products directly to kids. All the products are labeled with ratings and reasons why they're rated as such, purchasing the product implies that you accept the rating and are willing to make sure your kid stays on the straight and narrow. It's sad because these same parents who let their kids' game consoles do the babysitting will be the ones at the PTA meetings screaming about how kids are out of control because of exposure to media.

Front Mission's a hell of a series. It's unfortunate that it pretty much slipped through the cracks when FM3 was released in 2000. Probably because there were way too many other RPGs being released around the same time frame (including sequels to Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Saga Frontier).

I'd definitely be interested to see an online version.

Square-Enix should take all the FF remakes (Origins, Anthology, Chronicles), FFVII-FFIX and bundle this movie in some sort of deluxe PS2 edition (all on DVD of course). They'd sell millions of copies...

Not unless they put some more thought into Chronicles and Anthology - let's face it, the first editions were horrible. I don't think I've ever seen less responsive controls in a video game. :)

I remember seeing Toys R Us ads having the Nintendo priced at $150 in 1988. Games were $30-$40, though I seem to recall Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves going for $50. That was one of the later titles so pretty soon afterwards prices were slashed so the SNES could move in for good.

Had that question specifically mentioned the European servers (notice it didn't, and keep in mind that grab bags have always been US-centric), Sanya's response would probably have read more along the lines of not being able to answer based on the fact that Mythic has no control over GOA.

One more reason so many Euros play on the US servers. The servers in Europe are several patches behind, GOA handles support instead of Mythic (as I understand it GOA's support is subpar even compared to Mythic), and now this. Sad because it's a really good game once you get past the support problems.

I played the beta for about a week and a half before I finally got bored with it and gave up. I'm not sure if it's because I was only seeing people once every 15-20 minutes or if it was the 'been there done that' feeling I got after playing Dark Age of Camelot for a year and a half. The thing that really pissed me off was that the camera control sucks. There's no way to effectively pan the camera around in battle to make sure there's no aggro coming up behind you (and when you strafe around the mob to do a check you'll get some random idiot that runs by you and says 'OMG MOVING DOESNT HELP YOU NOOB')
