nah recompile is a bit too good... I would go with rehash... sounds a bit more in the same veins
Longhorn: noun. A 64-bit rehash of a collection of 32-bit extensions and a graphical shell for a 16-bit patch to an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4-bit microprocessor. Written by a 2-bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition.
Your ignorance is deemed insightful? What about the many people who died in SARS when there was an outbreak? Living in one of the cities and seeing people die sure made it feel damned real to me? What about the people who die each year due to West Nile? Lets just be preventative so that we never get ebola because if all thought like you we would surely have that too sooner or later.
I am suspecting that mods here at slashdot are bots... heck I beleive everything here on slashdot is probably bots (quasi intelligent spam bots.)
Why shouldn't we compare different processors types? All in all look at the Power 5 processor and that is where we all should be at regarding computational power. We are behind the evolution curve because the x86 cow needs to be milked to the bones.
Transistor count and thus transmission lengths most definitely dictate how fast a CPU can work. By doing good CPU design one can match the speed quite close to the "count" BUT as you seem to be an x86 Intel brainwashed techno child it isn't supprising that you defend the historicaly poor performance of Intel processors. All this is realy nothing BUT that you get 5 mod points is a travesty and mods here should get a clue stick.
And making offspring sterile in many cases. Only PCB is worse from medical point of view. Offing the mosquitos/flies right out will have other implications on the bilogical balance in nature. All insects living off of flies would not have much food and then they would be innihilated and that would cause other higher order animals to die off as well. At the end people like you and I will die as a direct result of a massive fly offing. That your post was regarded as interesting is quite indicative of how ignorant slashdot mods have become and this entire thread: how hard Microsoft is trying to look good. I am not against donations but I argue that annonymity should be the norm to make sure that actions are not merely covert self promotion acts.
Back in 1989 I had a 50 MHz machine MC 68030 (Amiga) and if Moore law about 18 month doubling would be true we should have had 5.7 GHz machines today. Incidentaly my next upgrade is when it hits 6 GHz because other than a magnitude faster machinery it isn't worth upgrading.
Yup I guess it must... Interestingly it is object oriented way of doing things... it's like taking Tcl/TK and perl/python and incorporate it inside of the shell... is it just me or is this suite approach idiotic? I mean bundling everything inside of one offering is mostly not good idea AND when it comes to servers I want to have the option to have a minimal feature set to make 100% sure that security can be managed in a timely manner. One aspect of UNIX is the pipeline methodology that some in the parent thread said was so wrong... this is a classic example of a person grown up on MS software saying this, where they need everything to be in one program and whoe to the machine that doesn;t have that program installed. Obviously being at the mercy of Microsoft one has to learn a completely new program offering for each new release which makes computer know-how a flavour of the week knowledge. Yes I am saying that computer techs are expendible in Microsofts view. Why are techs then clammering so hard for their solutions? Because there will always be naive beginners that see the "ease" and instant gratification that Microsoft offers. Most of us have been there are some point in our lives. Personaly I was there with Quick C++ back in the day and I am in no hurry to repeat that relationship.
As always my post will be modded zero and yet again prove that slashdot is in fact a commercial vehicle of Microsoft but with letting some of the anarchy through from the insiders that can have the official style (for the lack of a better word.) Paranoid? No I am just seing a pattern.
Nevertheless it made my day! So what he seems to be opinionated... at least he is not a spineless coward like most of the OSS people out there when it comes to bussines. Balmier's throwing a chair across the room is SOOO much more mature don't you think? Now go back to pointing fingers and blame and feel good about yourself.
Really? IMHO you have no idea what the heck you are talking about. The Zorro I,II and III busses are a hack job? True Plug and Play before anybody else and it just worked. Engineering when it mattered! It is amazing that your post was deemed interesting but it just shows how Slashnot has become a travesty and a covert front of MS cronies.
How swell the new clock design is... NOT. Am I the only one thinking of the electron count when looking at the periodic table and knowing where the element are in regards to that? I think not. So this may be a good way to get young scientists hooked on something flashy and nice looking but the functionality of the table just went out the door. Granted there might be other functional additions by having it as a clock BUT through out my entire life I have had way more people not knowing how to use a round clock than a squarish table. How many here can read the Clock without the numbers being there? No not those digital clocks you stoopid clutz.
Exactly... did similar things with Amiga back in 1986... TWENTY YEARS AGO!!! In 1990 I told my prof that that was the way it should be done... with a 2D blitter calculation approach... way faster than anything at that time... but I was ignored... as I will be in this post... Eff Intel and Eff MS and mark my words that we are 20 years behind in technology. Lameass Mores law! Go and eff yuourselves x86 camp.
That pretty much sums up the article... 99.999% pure hogwash sprinkled liberatley on the populus as to enfalme and enrage current mac users. Underhanded CNet tactics and makes them look even less credible that ever... hmmm... now I know why I stopped reading their tripe back in 2000.
You should be asking yourself why should "under-priviliged countries" have lesser technology and be put down to further the technological divide. Shame on you.
>replacing it with embedded
>or otherwise OS-managed databases
Yeah really the Windows registry is sooo much better. While I am not extatic over.info files they are much better in some senses....info files were early days mimetypes... Also having it specificaly in a file by it's own one can always change the behaviour on a file by file basis. OS-X is similar in this regard where they splice up the applications in directories and have File browser know where to look for stuff. A generic evolution of the.info file. Also it was never a hassle to manage the two files on Amiga... using the GUI it acted as one file in any case.
A lot of people confuse a products "sellability" with how good the system is and wrongly assume that if it didn't sell it must have been utter crap. I feel sorry for many people that didn't have the pleasure to use an Amiga, and I know for a fact that people would have been a whole lot harsher on Windows way of doing things if they had.
Here's a tost to Amiga, BeBox, Atari ST, Sinclair QL and Acorn Archimedes. Windows put us back 20 years thats all what I am saying.
Good for the mid sized not to see the writing on the wall. Once these mid sized were small busineses and I can without hesitation say that todays small businesses have greater stamina than the half old mid sized have to survive. Ignoring technology is not good. Wasteful usage of investor money is not good. So all in all it will be their own downfall. Problem is that they have already spent way too much in MS/Big Iron solutions that they have already shot themselves in the foot. I am personally not even flabbergasted at their position because their solution was done by idiots for idiots. The smart will prevail unless someone like Stalin culls the business climate.
Yeah sure. BUT tell me where I can find a new copy of "Bent Massive" by "Click Click". Or better yet any release of "Siglo XX", "Poesie Noire", "The Neon Judgement"? Redshift? Arc? Ian Boddy? The entire set of Dark side of the Moog by Schulze and friends? I can continue for ever. I am soooo sad every time i go into HMV and the only thing I see is mostly crap. Interestingly enough they do sell Rammstein (but this is new music and will probably soon be "discontinued.")
As always my post will be moded 0... but who the eff cares anymore.
VERY well said. But the need for more machines than one is still there for me... some would say this is overhead... I say it is redundancy. Although it is nice to have a 12 inch Powerbook do the Job perfectly for everything that I have thrown upon it... yes I tried it once on W2k and nowhere near what a kreative person needs it to be. On a scientific point of view I stick to Linux just because I can muck with EVERYTHING. For the games I use a PS-2 because I think the boot times for Win is way too long and my gamebug dies before I start the game. Too bad I still have to do taxes using w2k... Quicken wake up and have a tax solution for native Mac OS-X. Spaceout!
Now all teachers in the world should shit bricks. How much bull can we take from this guy anyhow? We still need line workers... service workers... keyword is INTERPERSONAL SKILLS. Step down Billy before you make a complete fool of yourself.
"250 users, with 99% of those being windows" and then "workstations instead of uber expensive Sun stations" hm... I think you're the one full-o-bull. Also you should know that IT changes VERY quickly and drasticly and yours "contractor for them a couple years ago" clearaly explains this. Anything that happens in IT that is more than a week old is ancient history. Heck I can even vouch that anything happening one hour ago is ancient history where my product is concerened.
"and most Japanese devs haven't figured out how to use a pixel shader yet."
I would say that You have no clue. As if "shading" is that difficult.
Thank you for the morning laugh!
obviously the mod doesn't know his Monty Python very well... This should be modded 5 Funny idot mod.

"Sky-Net"
Be afraid... very afraid.

No that would just hurt OSS in general. It should be free for all even those who oppose it. Sooner or later they will see the light.
MOUSES???? c'mon! Repeat after me: MICE!
