Out of all the self-proclaimed open source leaders, Bruce Perens creeps me out the most. I really don't know why people follow him. Everything he touches is lackluster at best.
Others like Stallman (GNU) and ESR (CatB) have caused major philosophical movements. The same can't be said for Perens.
I see Perens to Linux as Sean Hannity is to Conservatism. He's there and not afraid to pipe up. But he really hasn't offered any original ideas that have been worth much.
It means we'll be required to get 5 more Fox News channels to counter the lies of nbc, abc, cbs, cnn, msnbc, and pbs.

It really depends on what you do with your computer.
If you use it to surf the web, you'll be fine with either.
If you are in a server environment, linux will smoke OSX. Apple is years behind linux for heavy workload tasks. These new IO enhancements push linux even further ahead.
He's obviously talking about the home market. Your squishy "it depends" answer doesn't cut it either. I live in Arizona where we have clear skys 300 days of the year. Nobody here is pushing solar because they all know it's an exotic technology that costs too much. I wish it weren't true, but it is.
"ST. PAUL, Minn. -- A protest near the site of the Republican National Convention gave way to violence Monday as demonstrators attacked members of the Connecticut delegation, smashed windows, slashed car tires and threw bottles during an anti-war march, St. Paul police said."
I've been through the HFS pain in another context. One of our web developers insists on using a mac. When we migrated one of his sites from a Dreamweaver built site to joomla he had all sorts of problems. The root cause is that the Dreamweaver template was in the Templates directory and joomla had the theme under its templates directory. The linux server has no problem seeing the two as different. However, his mac freaked out and was putting the joomla themes into the dreamweaver Templates folder. Once I figured out his mac was the problem, we renamed the Dreamweaver Templates folder to something else to avoid the confusion.
California state legislators passed a feel-good law to restrict local police from arresting marijuana users holding a state issued medical prescription. Federal law holds that it is always illegal to possess marijuana and will win in court every time. The main discrepancy is that California's law hasn't been taken to court yet to be struck down. And congress, with its 9% approval rating, is too scared or weak to withhold federal funds from the state for this is practically everything else.
Ohhh, I guess 8 channels is enough for anybody. I have about 130 channels with Sirius and as a bonus, unlike terrestrial radio, much of the content is worth listening to.
Great, by the time I have backed out of the driveway I'll need to recharge it.
You mean to tell me that Apple is trying to push style over substance? No way!
For instance, the government doesn't know how many people actually have broadband or what they pay for it
Wait, I thought telcos giving the government open access to their records was a bad thing.
Come'on folks. You know anything the government touches will be abused. Stop giving these appointees more power for next to no real gain.

If you're not interested in flamebait stories, then you're on the wrong website.
Alistair who ??
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!
This is a great day for flash support on linux!
I see it from 2 angles:
*) Linux is so easy to develop for because it comes with a C compiler
*) Java is the language all of the schools teach
To keep new programmers interested in linux, java should be a standard (or at least easy) part of linux distros moving forward.
Experienced users can delete it if they don't want the bloat of it.
Next step, take the butt-ugly out of the java gui widgets.
But much like the real world, it won't get you very far.
Fairness is great.

But I wanted to be a Guitar Hero with my own personal versions of Stairway and Enter Sandman.
Good thing slashdot is here to set the record straight.
How well (if at all) will this work in VMWare?
Evidence right here:

So in response to that "bogus" threat, they plan on throwing bottles, breaking windows, and other acts of douchebaggery?
That's great lefty logic for you.
Nice how you round down Palin's number, round up Obama's, and completely ignore senate groupthink from executive experience.
And what about that user that wants to see 3-5 movies a day?
A) Get a job
and
B) Get a girlfriend
The mere fact that you believe in "the maximum income" indicates to me that you are not a friend of freedom.
Second, cutting pay for all employees. Even if it is legal to do, that's a good reason for those with more marketable skills to leave.
Speaking as a state employee, I can say this isn't a very likely scenario.

Thank you for being honest and pointing out that "genious" is a misnomer at the mac store. Corporate Pawn would be a much more accurate job title.
