Yea, but to repeat an earlier posters point - how do you think India's eco system woud benefit if corporations didn't have to spend all the money on licenses, but instead used that money to develop FOSS and develop new software?
There's no reason that the IT industry wouldn't be even bigger.
The GP said 'influence', which is the crux of the argument, people who influence our children shouldn't be deviant in any area, and sexual deviancy is a particularly touchy area. (Please excuse the pun)
Lets be realistic about this, you would need numbers to overthrow government regardless of whether you have weapons. And you can be fairly sure that the government in any case will have more trained and armed supporters than you will. You don't seem to understand that The Government isn't an all powerful entity - it is essentially made up from civil servants and the milatary. If you have a large enough following then most likely you can make the same amount of difference with or without weapons.
If you don't have a large enough following - you will be shot and called a traitor regardless of whether you shoot back or not.
The military is big enough and powerful enough to do pretty much what it needs to - whether that be toppling foreign governments or taking care of you!
Having guns doesnt keep anyone safer - it just means more chance of people misusing them.
Any number of people can site a single example, but we are talking about a tred. which is confirmed by the avalible stats. So stop being so fucking defensive and look at the big picture.
The bluender part covers the fact that it turned out not to be A Good Idea (TM), the positioning of the word implies that the publishing was unintentional.
If people are _dumb_ and can't read a contract, then why should the law be their daddies?
Because thats exactly what its there for.
The law is to protect the weak and ignorant. So one entity can't jut fuck over the next, now you also have to obide by _societys_ values when you want to play with others.
Thats basicaly the current law in the UK, there are certain exceptions, like having dope on you near children or schools etc, but you have to try hard to get arrested for just having it on you.
I think the parent was implying that the big guys keep buying out the small guys in order to plug gaps in the avalility of the big guys software portfolio
You are making the mistake of thinking that by 'nothing', people mean a whole lot of empty space, but they dont, they mean not anything, including dimentional space.
It didn't come from anywhere, the big bang was the start. before the start there wasn't an empty space, there wasnt blackness, it just wasnt anything because the start is the start.

I'm fairly sure that the human contribution to the total global CO2 output is in the region of 2%.
If I had mod points, I would mod you up.
Brilliantly put.
How about a pobox address with a mail forwarding facility?
You can get these services already - but they cost.
Another joy of living in the UK it seems, none of the major banks charge for a basic account - nor do they have a minimum balance.
A basic account would consist of a Maestro/Visa card + cheque book. There arn't any charges for writing or cashing a cheque either.
Interesting to find that out about banks over there though
Monthly fee for a bank account? is that commen?
The only case where i would consider paying for a bank account would be a business account.. and i dont think Paypal is suitable for that...

Dont be a muppet.
Because it's an Ask Slashdot, and it is a technical subject.
I run linux version 2.2 which is from 1999, and I still get updates.
You mean just like how holland affects the US drug policy?
US policy is directed by the US only.
Of course we do, it just wasnt all that good.
If I had any mod points, they would all be yours.
I get that 8 meg broadband (soon to be 16!) for less than i was paying for dial up 5 years ago.

Free to view (or digiboxes) cost as little at 30 quid now

The last three computers I have owned have been cast offs. One I actualy took out of a skip, was a 600mhz 256mb with a 40gb hard disk!
In honesty the hard disk died within a month, but the rest of the system is still up and running smoothly.
