I'm also a DJ and am starting to get worried about this. I spin Trance and House and I'm constantly exposed to the 4-4 bass. That coupled w/ the fact that I listen to my headphones ALL DAY at work, on the ride back and forth to work ... I feel like I'm living my life in headphones... someone told me that once actually.

Have you seen "It's All About Pete Tong" ? It's a great movie.. if you're a fan of dance music you can certainly appreciate it much more, but I think it's a MUST-SEE for all DJ's!

After seeing that movie, I started thinking about getting custom DJ earplugs, and after your comment I think I'm leaning closer towards getting a pair!

See that's where you're wrong. Just because YOU want a phone to only make calls and have a large service area, doesn't mean everyone else does. Phones are for... whatever people want to use them for. Companies offer high speed internet, e-mail, cameras, bluetooth, synching etc. because people want these features. If YOU want a phone to store basic contact info, and make calls, then buy a cheap phone (which I'm sure you have). There are lots of other people out there (myself, and many people here included) who want top of the line features in top of the line phones, and are willing to pay for them.

I bought a Motorola v600 and use Cingular for this exact reason. I paid close to $300 for it, another $100 for the Motorola Bluetooh Headset, different colored faceplates etc.. I bought the phone because it's top of the line, and has all the features I want. And guess what? They work!

The point is, a lot of people want lots of features in their phone, and when they find a phone that's advertised with all of these features, and pay hundreds of dollars for it and accessories, they expect it to work!

The v710 is a sweet phone as manufactured, but this has destroyed the hype. I'll gladly stick using KBluetooth in Linux to transfer pictures, games, songs, and ringtones from my laptop to my v600.

I'm not a moto employee, nor would I consider myself a "bluetooth expert" however I am very knowledgeable about bluetooth technology, and this v710 situation in general.

I have a Motorola V600, and have had it for months. It's a GSM phone, and I use it through Cingular, but there are versions of the v600 from At&T Wireless and T-Mobile. It's a great phone, and bluetooth works flawlessly in every profile, it's not crippled at all. My buddy from work, after seeing my phone badly wanted a bluetooth phone, and almost switched to Cingular just for this phone, but when he heard the v710 was coming out for Verizon, he stayed put and waited...

Well he got the phone and is pretty furious that he's paid all of this money, and the only functionality he gets out of it is the use of his Bluetooth headset. There are rumors floating all over saying Verizon crippled it, or that it's a firmware issue and will be fixed with a firmware upgrade but who really knows? Verizon does and that's about it.

My Moto v600: Cingular, perfect bluetooth functionality, and runs java and isn't locked down.

Verizon v710: Not working bluetooth, runs this BREW which they use to lock you in by making you pay for every ringtone or game.

There are thousands of free games and ringtones out there, but Verizon wants to make as much money off of their "precious customers" as they can. The bottom line is it's bad for business if you have unhappy customers. The demand for Bluetooth and all of the features of the v710 was there, and Moto provided it, only to have it crippled by Verizon. Don't blame Moto that's for sure. When you pay close to $300 because you want all of the gadgets in a phone, you expect them to work.

My advice? Get a v600 and switch to GSM.

I'm a happy v600 owner, and will never think twice about my purchase.

Despite all this, whenever I've tried Linux it has never felt like I could make my computer truly mine

I would consider myself in the top 1% or .1% of people who would feel comfortable using Linux

Well if you consider yourself comfortable enough with Linux, then you should be able to make it feel "at home" relatively quickly.

Most of the newest distros have installers that have come so far, I might even go as far as to say that they rival Windows installers (Mandrake 9.1 installer is beautiful).

If your complaint is about X11 drivers, then you should of course know that most distros can't bundle certain graphics drivers due to licensing issues i.e. Nvidia, Ati. A quick install of the driver, and a quick mod to XF86Config-4 usually does the trick (at least from my experience w/ Nvidia cards)

Dependency Hell?? Well I use Mandrake 9.1, a quick 2 min. URPMI from the PLF to add contrib, sources, main, and of course Texstar's repository, and dependency hell is pretty much taken care of, as grpmi also gets the deps. this is for an rpm-based distro, however apt-get is equally as powerful.

It may be that KDE or GNOME don't feel right from an ease of use standpoint

hmmmm.... this one baffles me a bit. I use KDE as my desktop, a quick trip to Kde-look.org and my desktop will look and feel exactly how I want it to. I know what you're probably thinking, and no I'm not a KDE-only zealot... Gnome is very good, I just like KDE better...Plus there are many other window managers out there, it's up to you to use whatever makes you feel "at home". Linux has come a long way in the last few years, and I'm proud to tell people I use Linux, and will always explain it to them what it is when they ask, "what's that?"

What it really comes down to is choice and options. You have choice, and you have lots of options. You can choose to run Windows be locked in, and have everything forced upon you. You can choose Mac OS and have a closed (but becoming more open minded) OS but one that def. beats Windows in ease of use, but can't quite tinker with it as much as the normal geek would like. OR you can choose Linux. If you can't make your linux box feel as if you were "at home", I'd re-think your statement about being "comfortable enough" to use Linux. Customization is just one of the many perks of Linux.

The conditions at the workplace have deteriorated rapidly and the pay certainly isn't consummate to the workload. If the person were to leave whether it be by resignation or laid off, what are the legal rights the person has in terms of taking the code for the website with him when he goes? Whether or not the company folds or stays in business seems irrelevant in this case, but if the person leaves and decides to take the website and any other work he's done with him, what are the legal ramifications of doing this? Mind you it's not a contract position, and there is no contract at all, and certainly nothing about ownership of code, project schedule etc.
