Oh, I agree totally. We can't even tell if the users bought products before that time & the info was still stored, and most of it doesn't expire. I was just trying to explain the "blame the user" mindset that's out there. Should have made it clearer.
Because they knowingly did business with Sony. Since Sony has been a known "evil" since at least the 2005 CD rootkit doing business with them is unethical and removes the shield of "innocence" from their enablers.
You are comparing non-organic factory farmed food to organic free-range food. There are 2 variables, not one. Grass-fed beef is not always organic. Organic beef can be fed on organic corn. Same deal for the chickens.
When Firefox was first announced it seemed like a great idea: a very fast, stripped down browser with as few built-in features as possible. Everything else could be added by extensions! The devs could add the features as extensions installed by default, and if you don't like that feature you disable the extension.
That didn't happen. Instead they added features to the core, and firefox is slowly turning back into seamonkey.
Responsible disclosure meant giving the company time to fix the vulnerabilities before you released the info to the public.
So the companies stalled and never fixed the vulnerabilities, tried to sue the researchers, etc.
Responsible disclosure came to mean giving the company a set amount of time to fix the vulnerabilities before you released the info to the public.
So the companies kept threatening researchers, called the grace period "extortion" and such, stalled for more time to "test", and didn't fix the vulnerabilities.
Responsible disclosure died, and full disclosure took its place. The researcher's ethical responsibility is not to the company with the flawed product, but to the customers. Having all the details of a vulnerability is pretty much always useful for mitigating that vulnerability until a fix is released, and having the vulnerability publicly known motivates companies to actually fix the flaw. Thus, full disclosure is reasonable.
Some companies DO fix vulnerabilities when informed of them. With these it is reasonable to provide the grace period. If you do not know, it is reasonable to provide a grace period. 90 days is typical. If a company refuses to fix the flaws within the time, they forfeit their future grace periods.
In trying to simplify it I left it a bit incorrect. It translates the API calls, not the binaries. It makes no changes to the file on disk, it just intercepts API calls and outputs the equivalents. (This is still not totally correct, but it is an improvement.)
Thus why atheism is more rational than theism. There is no proof of a god, so we can assume there is no god. Since that is simpler than assuming there is a god, it's probably correct.
That's why I called it "agnostic atheism" as opposed to "agnostic theism" (The existence or nonexistence of god cannot be proven, but let's believe anyway because...) or "gnostic atheism" (It's possible to disprove the existence of god, here's the proof. (not really the right use of the term gnostic)) or "gnostic theism" (It's possible to prove the existence of god, here is proof.
I didn't say I think of god as uninvolved. I said god isn't interfering. I think of god as inherently involved. Just as I am quite involved with my body, so is god involved with its existence as the universe. Just as I don't speak individually to the cells of my pancreas, so god does not speak to people. That said, I am a Discordian, so God is a Woman named Eris and She can be a real Bitch sometimes. Why? Because I chose to "believe" that, and the idea of nonsense as the key to salvation amuses me. And I like entropy. Sure, it means the eventual end of all things if the universe is a closed system, but everything we do depends on the transfer of energy, and thus increasing entropy. A world with perfect order and 0 entropy would be a totally static singularity. My idea of heaven isn't a black hole. Of course maximal entropy (heat death of the universe) is just as bad.
Oh, look at you, aren't you a good islet of Langerhans! Yes, such a good insulin producer...
Theism makes a statement that cannot be proved or disproved by the actions of humans: There is at least one god.
Atheism makes a statement that cannot be proved or disproved by the actions of humans: There are no gods.
Agnosticism makes the statement that neither of the above can be proved or disproved by the actions of humans, and therefore there may or may not be a god, and we have no way to tell.
Agnosticism is the only "purely rational" choice. That said, atheism requires simpler assumptions than theism (no unobservable beings that act outside the laws of the universe) and could be said to be "more" rational than theism. It is logical to assume agnostic atheism: We have not observed a god, and see no direct evidence of such a being, therefore it probably does not exist, and until such time as it is observed we can make the simplifying assumption that it does not exist.
And then there are people like me, the Pandeists. God is the universe and the laws thereof. This is very different from an interfering, theistic god.
WINE Is Not an Emulator. It's an implementation of the Win32 API, and a way to load programs. It translates Windows x86 binaries into Linux/BSD/MacOSX x86 binaries.
It's a kit to assemble credit-card stealing keylogger worms. Select the expliots to use, select the payloads, tell it where to send the data, what your command and control servers are, compile, and steal data.
Background ionizing radiation can cause DNA damage, and thus cancer. Background non-ionizing radiation, such as the cosmic microwave background, pretty much can't. It cannot ionize DNA, and there aren't any other known mechanisms for it to cause such damage. So some background radiation (alpha radiation from radium in the crust, etc) can cause cancer. However, it's background radiation. Short of living in a lead box for the rest of your life you will still receive it, and your body's DNA repair mechanisms will normally be able to cope with any damage it may cause. And even in a light-year thick lead box you still might get an unlucky hit by a neutrino.
Anon IS hierarchical, in some subsets. The Catholic church is highly hierarchical, whereas the Christian Anarchists are not. They both consider themselves Christian, both follow Jesus, but have little else in common. Anonymous is similar to Christianity in this regard, there are many subgroups, a few of which are highly organized and others which are far more chaotic./b/ (random) tends to be quite chaotic, though there are still organized subsets./an/ (animals and nature) tends to be far more organized, focusing almost totally on animals and nature, with a few regular posters and active moderation. Both are subsets of Anonymous.
Anon has few, if any, real total ideals. Kill the "internet freedom" section by passing appropriate laws or arresting the leaders continually, and eventually another subgroup will be the biggest. Could be the cute kittens guys, could be the my little pony fans, or whatever. The most vocal group does not make up the majority of the group.
TI graphing calculators do write cos(n). The TI-89, at least, does also have an RPN program available. Quite handy. RealCalc for android also supports RPN mode.
So you can get multiple keyboards for all the special characters you might use. Not just programming, the legal section symbol (), etc, are used in government. With a software keyboard you can have extra keys for your most common special characters. You can also get layouts better suited to hunt-and-peck than touch typing. I use Colemak at home, and DSK on my phone. Having all the vowels on one side and all the most common consonants on the other is a great benefit.
The constitution defines America. Ignoring it is, by definition, destroying America. Those that ignore it do not deserve, but must still receive its protection, because if we don't give it to them then we are also destroying America.
DMCA notices are sent under penalty of perjury. While the targets of most frivolous notices are small and can't afford to sue or press charges, the issuers (major corporations) can defend any suit against them easily. Also, corporations get fined, individuals get jail time.
When people stop eating them. Some people (me, for one) have a very high tolerance for spice and can eat peppers like these plain. The more spice you eat the less it seems to have an effect, so the continual production of hotter chillies does serve a need.
I use a 1.2 million sauce regularly. I, too, have a very high tolerance for spice. Naga jolokias do have a great flavour, very difficult to describe properly. They are great dipped in lime juice.
It's not that hard. There are plenty of programs to generate such patterns, Sam Ruby wrote a nice one in SVG and ECMAScript. It generates it (deliberately) one tile at a time for a cool animation, doing the same as a background would probably be too distracting.
I've read it. I'm 24. This is Slashdot, and that's a geek classic. That, and it was only published in 1960. Assuming most of the audience was 16-30 year olds at the time, the vast majority would not yet be in nursing homes.

But they're probably just dumb clowns.

Penrose tiles are cooler. They are aperiodic, the tiling never repeats, instead of just having a long period.
