adapt this naturally occurring anaerobic organism into one that can survive in a more normal environment
I'm sure that if this organism could talk it would tell you that being taken from natural soil to a hydrogen production facility was not exactly moving into a more normal environment.
I'm waiting for the wife to discover the $100 I put on the credit card this weekend for the hackable mini-linux box I just bought - an NSLU2. I would have told her but she was already in a mood when I came home...
Have you just stepped out of a time machine or something? Most English speakers stopped marking case on relative pronouns centuries ago, even in texts that are considered to be part of the canon of English literature. Almost the only time when 'whom' is appropriate today is as a deliberate archaism. I strongly suggest not using it as part of a strategy for career advancement. Among other things it will make your speech and writing seem affected and pretentious and may even give your boss feelings of inadequacy.
There's a general principle that's worth following when doing science (and in life in general). When faced with a bunch of possibilities you start by considering the most likely one and then work your way towards the less likely ones. For example if your car won't start in the morning you hypothesize that something has failed within the car before suggesting that maybe the laws of thermodynamics have failed today.
The c-not-constant hypothesis is pretty low down the list.
'Deviance' isn't really the right word here. A better word is 'deviation'. Deviance is typically used to describe human behavior eg. deviation from socially acceptable norms. "Why the deviance?" is something you might ask about a child molester.
Chances are it won't be/that/ much faster anyways.
Have you actually compared PC/Mac benchmarks? And I mean benchmarks provided by people other than companies other than Apple? Intel Macs are going to scream. Even more when Apple switch to a compiler other than gcc.
Yup. I had a paper published in a reputable journal around January that doesn't show up. (The copy on my web site shows up but not the official journal web page.)
...my old company after it shut its doors and uncovered an old unclaimed Amiga 500, mouse and monitor. I opened the case, cleaned it up, washed the case itself with soap and water, and it looks and works fine. Using Amiga Explorer I was able to connect it to my PC (via a chain of about 4 serial port adapters and gender benders) and download some classic games. I managed to finish Infocom Enchanter on it. I think I have every Infocom game for it now. (I don't know whether to think of this as piracy - I own the original of at least one version of every Infocom adventure game, but only the original Amiga version of Shogun.) I even bought an old joystick off Ebay to play Marble Madness but I have to admit I find it too frustrating. (No save games!)
The only disappointment is that this version came without Basic or Rexx so there was no programming capability. Talking of which: is there a PC->Amiga 500 cross compiler?
WTF are you talking about. There's no new interface here. And the interface they do have is stone age compared to the old Nvidia/Keyhole interface to satellite imagery which used some pretty sophisticated graphics/network programming.
They have satellite/aerial photography. They have map data. The map data is often derived from said photography. They've compositied one over the other.
Geez! If they put pictures of fancy roses in corner you'd be creaming yourselves!
...sometimes talk with their customers using speech. Speech provides a means for organising meeting times, discussing drug quality, and negotiating with customers. All of these play an important part in drug dealing. I propose that we outlaw human speech and instead insist that people communicate only by electronics means so that automatic filtering techniques can be used to track down evil people.
I finally bought some AAPL stock a week ago and every time you guys post one of these stories my net worth just goes up and up. I admit I haven't made anywhere near as much money as I lost in the.bomb but any little helps.
If you know the character and the developing plot then that scene was very entertaining - it's not just a chick doing Kung Fu scene. I love the new Doctor Who, and I also like Firefly, they're both a cut above the average science fiction series. Firefly has interesting plot threads that work their way through the epsiodes pulling you in. And Firefly probably has the highest production quality of any science fiction TV series I've watched. Firefly isn't going to make you have new revelations about the nature of the human condition, but you'll get to like and know the characters and they'll entertain you.
In what way does this device make them 'feel' they are being burned alive rather than actually burning them alive? This isn't pepper spray that triggers pain sensors without associated damage. This thing makes people feel like they are burning because it is in fact cooking them!
...their slang. Are they calling it Cantenna these days? And does that refer to the leaf form or the resin?

But if it is good then the last thing you should have done is post on /. because if there are were a few in stock anywhere they'll have gone by now.
...out of old beer cans. All I have to do is write "exp(pi*sqrt(163)) is at his desk" on one of them. It'll be right around 85% of the time.

...this? Get your damn wallet out!
I managed to build it on MacOS X. Unfortunately when I try to run the resulting helloworld executable in UAE I get a little guru meditation problem...
...Kleenex to wipe the oil off their hands after working on their car. That's not newsworthy either.
Yup. I had a paper published in a reputable journal around January that doesn't show up. (The copy on my web site shows up but not the official journal web page.)
Thanks for that awesome link. Maybe I'll try building it for the Mac which is more convenient for me.
The only disappointment is that this version came without Basic or Rexx so there was no programming capability. Talking of which: is there a PC->Amiga 500 cross compiler?

Someone had implemented it as a google hack already.

I was getting fed up of all those long-haired guys with tattoos in my neighborhood wearring gold earrings and bandanas.

...info copied wholesale from Wikipedia, and largely irrelevant to the story, really ought not to be modded up.
