I'll probably get modded down for this, but honestly, what's the point?
Sure the OS on TI calculators is proprietary, but it does what it does quite well and I've never had issues with it.
I think making OSS just for the sake of having OSS is stupid. Do something useful with your time. If you have such a great understanding, contribute packages to Linux or something.
In a recent PopSci little tidbit article I read, they had an automatic book scanner that used a series of 2 mirrors and a scanner to scan books page by page and special software to convert it from an image to a text document.
What would be nifty would be to combine the two and convert old/out of print books into data, where they would last forever, free from the stresses of our world.
I know you're sort of half trolling, half being a mac promoter, and actually not lying, but why post as an AC? Is it really that bad to get a single -1 on your Karma (which you aren't even getting anyways).
Honestly, this reminds me of the first transatlantic cable. They kept getting faults and they couldn't figure out what it was. Turns out the paying-out machine had the cable rubbing against some fine metal shavings which would occasionally get stuck in the casing and ground the cable to the sea-water.
In panther Apple uses XML files to store data about supported drives. All you have to do is open up something like, say, toast and look at what the drive reports itself as, then dig in/Library/Frameworks/DiscRecording.framework and find the proper XML file and add a new.
I know this sounds really complicated, but there is an easy how-to guide at www.xlr8yourmac.com. Most drives are supported, but the software doesn't believe so because of a slightly different firmware version or something silly like that.
While you're updating the (X)HTML to be compliant, why don't you make the search engine actually search? As it is now it's almost completely random as to what you get when you click "search", no matter what you put in the box. I've gotten completely different results just by hitting reload.
But better late than never. Good to know that microsoft has realized that "maybe users really DON'T want to collect their prize for being the 1239023948th visitor to the site"
IE is necessary for a lot of sites that aren't really HTML/CSS compliant and use tricks in IE to make themselves look good in it, but render them useless if you view it with another browser that doesn't know about this little trick. It's the state of the internet now that you can't browse without a pop-up blocking browser, or else you get bombarded.
I wonder if they'll support 2k Professional/Advanced Server however in this endeavour.
You look like a man that could use Mac OS X. This is what Quartz Extreme does. People say that the OS X GUI takes up too much CPU, while in fact it takes up almost none. All of the windows, shadows, etc, are being done with the video card though Quartz Extreme, no programming necessary from the app writer to take advantage of this either.
It's pretty nifty, using expose can be quite addicting. Big..small..big..small..big..
The G5 uses SATA, just to let you know. I don't think that it's much of a bottleneck. The operations aren't even very disk intensive anyways, it's all about processing power.
The problem is, that it is a proprietary solution, and like kazaa, it will probably only have a windows version, while the rest of us Mac OS X and Linux users will have to reverse engineer a poorer client.
Does anyone know of any cross-platform VoIP/P2P apps?
I like how you posted this as an AC. Besides that, I think you're a damned fool. There is no way you have ANY battery life at all with a 3Ghz p4 in there. 30 minutes at the max.
Well, that's my point exactly. They don't have to go through due process of law using the DMCA, which is of course total BS and it defeats the point of the legal system (not the justice system, thats long gone)
Will this really stop them from doing anything? Like the poster said, they like to settle out of court, and they'll probably pull something like "Well, you should've been more protected against this kind of identity theft. Give us $10,000 in amnesty, and we'll go catch the _real_ theif."
You DO realize that go-l is a complete hoax, right? If you do a whois on their server, it just completely fucks everything up. You also can't buy anything from them because you can't create an account. ALSO, if you had looked, it's a total rip-off of apples site. 17" Laptop? Come on Mr. Gullible.

Paper doesn't last forever you know.
"If Apple can do it, so can we!"
Joining dell on the music bandwagon. Oh well, I guess it's a good thing. Competition inspires innovation, right? right?

Grow some balls, man.

I wonder what happened to this one?
Anyone who's had a mac has been able to hear synthesized singing since Mac OS 8. Gogo Cellos and Bad News
The light you see at the end of the tunnel...
is the headlamp of a fast approaching train!
That is extremely slick, I like it.

Like all good bond adversaries, this one won't die.

Sure hope these cards have a picture on them though. Possibly a digitally stored fingerprint.
I'm not sure if I should mod this up funny, because it's obviously supposed to be, but it's not really.
But what about jewish kids? I can tell you that you get a LOT of money from your Bar (or Bat) Mitzfah.
I never would've guessed that an over-hyped product that runs games at 20fps wouldn't have sold well!
These people need to learn that many consumers have geeks like us as friends who can recognized a truly terrible product and tell them about it.
No sales = dissapointed.
I already know of both of these, but I currently use mldonkey for P2P. I'm wondering specifically about VoIP P2P.

The USB isn't a hardware requirement, it's a gague of how old your computer is. You don't NEED USB to run the OS, that would be just silly.
Yea, of course it's the same price. Of course you get tons of battery life. You just keep telling yourself that.
I like how you posted this as an AC. Besides that, I think you're a damned fool. There is no way you have ANY battery life at all with a 3Ghz p4 in there. 30 minutes at the max.
I also think you mostly made this crap up.
