I don't think Dryhstone takes advantage of AltiVec optimizations, which is what makes the G4 so useful. Clock for clock, a G3 is actually faster than a G4 without AltiVec. The small difference you see is just because the G4 is 100Mhz faster and it has a second processor.

Good job. Totally ignore the fact that there are 3 seperate programs, one even by apple that doesn't void the warranty, to replace the battery while the Dell DJ has nothing.

They're talking about base stations here, not the wireless cards. The regular AirPort cards are upgraded, as I can confirm on my 466Mhz iBook SE. It just doesn't upgrade non-Extreme base stations. The Graphite one especially cannot handle this with it's sad little 486. =\

I wonder what they did with this iPod to reduce it's battery life so significantly, short out the contacts or something?

What? The Mac OS has just changed recently, the classic OS is gone and it's now based on a BSD core with the mach kernel. That's a pretty big change if you ask me.

But If you're talking about 32-64 bit, then Apple has made the transition quite smoothly with the G5 if you ask me. While the OS itself is not true 64 bit, it supports 64 bit applications perfectly.
