Maybe nobodys pointed it out, but why not pre-wire for room and ambient lighting using led's? I've seen a couple of demo type units and theres a house in Knoxville.... but think geek cool factor for having your own lighting grid in the house. No more bulb changing, *ever* (+100,000 hrs on some fixtures) 1/10th the current usage, (could almost be powered by photovoltaic cell/battery combo) and top it off with infinite variable color output and brightness.

Actually, single layer DVD's are not. I considered that one surface (the actual media) to be a single layer... With my idea, package two DVD's back to back with a separator between them. and either flip it manually in the player -or- add a second laser head above the DVD to read the top side at the same time the lower section gets read. Voila, DUAL LAYER DVD, equals 4.7Gb X 2 (9.4Gb). The first time I saw an actual DVD, I thought there might be other, better, ways to increase storage. It may not be original, but it was an inspired revelation (for me), something on the order of spotting the genuine thing in a sea of imitations. I'll shut up now. I've said my piece.

Costs are going downward because the importer manufacturers are starting to deliver HUGE loads of high quality really cheap parts. These devices shown are ridiculously over-priced in my opinion (sorry, I still do own an opinion) and I believe I could supply the same type of product far cheaper. E-bay has some sellers that will mail you a package of 100 pieces 5mm bright white LEDs for $20 -$25 USD. Free shipping. I did make a darkroom safety flood lamp from about $20 worth of red leds and a wall wart back in 1975..and the parts came from the Lafayette Radio and TV store.... it had 48 leds and was 24 inches long. Worked extremely well, too.

With all the outrage generated by John Q Public (the easily manipulated ones) over this site, the original article fails to mention that he did violate the rules. HE WAS HOSTING EPISODES OF COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL, WITHOUT EXPRESSLY WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM THE OWNERS OF THAT MATERIAL. The article makes it sound like he had an agreement with those owners, but if you read closely, nowhere does it say that he obtained permission to do what he did. I agree, calling out the FBI on him was a little over the top, but the MPAA (and the RIAA) just love having the government do their work for them. That way, they don't have to pay lawyers to do it for them: Its free...when you can claim you've been damaged by others actions and can point to a new "law" for compensation. Now I'll grant that there wasn't a huge crime here. He did have content that was previously broadcasted. And I don't think theres a single fansite out there that could slide free of "copyright" infringement charges, should the owner of the copyright get pissed enough. I can only say one thing, If I create something of value, do not assume that I will allow you to duplicate, replay, or archive for later public display without my permission. If control is granted through the letter of the law, then that law is what will protect my rights from the thieving lot of scum that all the rest of world has living in it. And you know who you are.

Like the header says, I can see this. It appears as though this enterprising individual wants us to slot him an easy product development idea. Duh, nope. And you intend to use that same usb bus to store and retrieve data on the usb drive. Nope can't be done. No way. Not gonna happen. Before you run to the Patent Office, there is much Prior Art. All of the ealiest PC's were like that. The O/S was loaded off of 5 1/4 floppies, and since it was DOS, it would only do a few proggies simultaniously before maxxing out the whole system bus bandwidth. taaaadahhh! Locked up. Think they treated you like crap? Let me tell you, they are PIGS, and do not deserve anyone's business. Several years ago, I went looking for a new washing machine and found an attractively priced, now discontinued, on-display unit that was perfect at my local BB. Got a salesman to write it up, paid CASH ($459), got a receipt, picked a delivery time, and walked out the door. Fast forward three days. Phone rings, BB says they cannot deliver washer due to fact that they sold it to someone else the following day, and would I want to wait for two more weeks until they could deliver another one? I declined the wait, and returned to the store for a refund. When I asked the main desk clerk for a refund, she replied that the refund would be MAILED from the main office for BB within 30 days. I stated that that was UNACCEPTABLE. She stated that that was store policy for all returned items. When I replied that I could not return what had not been delivered, and I was canceling a sale, she stated over again that I would have to wait for the main office to send the check. At this point I was inches away from punching up the launch code. My wife pressured me to calm down and suggested we call the police and make a report about a felony theft. When the now present store manager said "what felony theft?" I replied "The felony theft of my $459 cash that you will not return." He restated the "store policy". I restated my intent on getting a warrant for his arrest. He sputtered a second and then backed down and authorized my immediate refund. I e-mailed BB at the corporate HQ the next morning, and informed them of the shenanigans of this particular store, and besides advising them of the illegality of withholding customers money longer than was necessary, I also told them that they had lost a customer forever, -and- that I would try to discourage anyone from purchasing anything from them again. I recieved no reply to the e-mail, leading me to believe that they do not have any interest in true customer service. Who are these clowns? Have they lost all of what little they had of intelligence?

These days with the very large digital switchgear in most cities currently installed, all you need to do is dial the number of the phone you are speaking on. Dialtone is replaced with a msg that "the phone you are attempting to call has another call in progress" Note: It does NOT say or indicate that the line is busy. After you hang up, (as in disconnect) the switchgear will ring the number automagically. When you pick up, you'll likely recieve a pulsed tone signal thats placed on the line for the tech to use to measure signal.
