Updated kernel packages for Red Hat Linux 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, and 8.0 are now available. These packages fix a ptrace-related vulnerability that can lead to elevated (root) privileges.
2. Relevant releases/architectures:
Red Hat Linux 7.1 - athlon, i386, i586, i686 Red Hat Linux 7.2 - athlon, i386, i586, i686 Red Hat Linux 7.3 - athlon, i386, i586, i686 Red Hat Linux 8.0 - athlon, i386, i586, i686
3. Problem description:
The Linux kernel handles the basic functions of the operating system. A vulnerability has been found in version 2.4.18 of the kernel. This vulnerability makes it possible for local users to gain elevated (root) privileges without authorization. This advisory deals with updates to Red Hat Linux 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, and 8.0.
All users of Red Hat Linux 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, and 8.0 should upgrade to these errata packages, which contain patches to fix the vulnerability.
4. Solution:
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata relevant to your system have been applied, especially the additional packages from RHSA-2002:205 and RHSA-2002:206.
The procedure for upgrading the kernel manually is documented at:
http://www.redhat.com/support/docs/howto/kernel- up grade/
Please read the directions for your architecture carefully before proceeding with the kernel upgrade.
Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many people find this to be an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network, launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate RPMs being upgraded on your system. Note that you need to select the kernel explicitly on default configurations of up2date.
The situation with the economy and the tech sector is just now starting to effect M$. I have a feeling we will start to hear more stories about how Microsoft is cutting their losses on bad investments.
Scorchen , you are the biggest douche in the universe.
It's from an excellent south park show.

Can someone please show me the real show stoper bugs in 10.2? I didn't think so.
I think that Apple has redeemed themselves from 10.1 and if 10.3 is as big of an improvment as 10.2 was it's worth $129.
System-wide metal interface
Support for 64-Bit architecture
QuickTime 6.5
iChat 2.0 with videoconferencing capabilities
Final Safari release 1.0 GM
Updated iApps (possible inclusion of iWorks?)
Enhanced Dock features
Overall system speed enhancements
Optimized for the new systems (AMD, Itanium or PPC970??)
I can give two shits and a fuck about karma, look at my profile... I have all kinds of -1's
I only "login" so I can see what kind of response I get to my comments.
So in closing: Fuck karma and fuck you.

"Oh, I am being very sorry that we are not supporting Linux on the system you are having"
Score:1, Insightful???
This must have been moderated by some gentoo douchebag (on his mom's PC) via a wget cronjob that checks slashdot every 20 min for pro gentoo comments.
Runing a R.I.P Apple story (on the front page) on Troll Tuesday. This should be fun.
I got a email from Red Hat Netowrk on the 17th about this email. It wasn't posted to /. till the 18th. So there.

...apparently intended to spur compatible hardware development...
Man these are nice machines. Let's hope we can get someone to spur faster processor development ASAP or Apple is dead.
PS> I'm not a troll. Posted from an 800MHz 15in iMac.
No... Dirty piss smelling Frech can be more concerned with my nut sack.
Jesus Christ, will someone just drop a bomb on the entire eastern hemosphere already.
