I agree, what a damn hassle. This is one of the things that lobbyists against the taxation in the US complain about. It is very difficult to collect tax under 50+ different plans. Now, it looks like the world may want to add 100's of different expenses, which also add LOTS of man hours. (to the selling end and receiving end) Ultimately, I bet this generates little extra revenue due to the number of "collectors/enforcers" they have to hire in EACH country to make sure everyone is getting their fair share.

A note to europeans about eBay:

How can you collect sales tax on a used item? The tax was already paid here by the original purchaser.

Most items I sell are used or "prepurchased" or involve a service. None of these items are taxable here and are considered sold at yard sale or at auction. Neither of which in my state are taxed. For some reason, some live (in person) auctioners charge tax here, but they aren't suppose to. They are told to by local governments who "slip it in"

Again, if something is used, taxes have already been paid and it's benefits to society have also created revenue generation, which in turn, is more tax collected. Say I buy a printer at retail. I pay the sales tax. Then, I use said printer to print my envelopes, receipts, business cards, correspondence, pictures to sell, etc etc - generating more income for my business. I have also used said printer purchase to make more money to spend and thus taxed, giving even more money to the government for the printer!

A lot of people that collect tax on eBay and especially Yahoo NEVER pay that back into the government. This is like the bogus people that collect tax at flea markets or for service calls.

I will hope that eBay will just add the VAT to the total bill so that we don't have to collect it and pay into some sort of escrow.

Rumors on several sites that claimed to be close to Johnson said another alien race that defeated the "lizards" will come to save us. Sort of like an "operation iRaqi Freedom" effort on a planetary scale. The "new aliens" will be like a United States of the Universe that everyone is jealous of for their immense technology and "morality" - I could see how it would make a good commentary, just as the original was good commentary about WWII.

Again, no FUD just fact, the FBI has already planned an investigation about RFID in money Why is this a privacy concern? What I'm about to say may be an ethical issue but it is seen different ways by different people. What if I want to buy some marijuana with that note? What if I want to pay the kid down the down the street to cut my lawn? What if that same kid does drugs? Now, I am suspect for being in "drug ring" if they can trace all those RFIDs.

Same with purchases from Walmart. What if I happen to purchase a combination of items unknowingly, that the average drug user purchases. Will I be profiled for that buying habit too?

I am with you, it's coming no matter what. It will be hard to stop. But, there are legitimate concerns.

I will hope that Walmart will adopt the Philips chip that you can turn off if the customer so wills to.

You would be amazed at what your grocery store bonus card data holds about you! Returns, complaints to the store, not just sales data. Again, what if something with an RFID or something trackable has your fingerprints on it, are you suspect when the "bad guy" buys it from Goodwill or steals it? Not only do we need Walmart to understand that before they make this step that we want on off switches, but we would also like disassociation capability. IE, erasure of your association with an RFID. Also, yearly reports by email or mail on what your RFID info holds and what data they truly are keeping about you would be nice.

Also, those 5 year MSN plans for $300 cash off a computer are ripoffs. What if you want to move to broadband? You're stuck! Besides, broadband is only $9-$12 more. Less with a special.

Do you know that if you signed a contract for cell service two years ago you're probably paying out the wazoo! I'd much rather get 1 or 2 songs free with an iPod and see a monthly 2 for 1 special or 3 Indie songs for a dollar. The 970 is a great chip. It's benchmarks at the Microprocessor Forum VERY HANDILY beat EVERY processor put up against it - even the AMD 64 bit!

Apple shouldn't move to x86 as suggested in the redundant Apple naysayers. (hey you "apple is dead people": how about looking in my journal?) I rather like the RISC processor anf the PPC - there is MUCH less code overhead and easier "addon" capability (cache, media functionality, i/o) - Motorola has been the hold up in it's development and needed someone like IBM to step in and lend a hand, they have done so.
