Well, if the band is SELLING them after the concert, it's not pirating. I suppose the RIAA would get upset; if I took that CD home, ripped it, and placed it on LimeWire;)
If this is fair, then why shouldn't $19.95 TV deals apply. This really stinks of "lobbying from desperate states" - taxes on items (possibly even eBay sales) would RUIN a lot of small business. It's one way they can compete.
I have heard that there is a movement to make eBay collect taxes or sellers to collect taxes. eBay should be considered an online flea market or yard sale. The items (most) have already BEEN sold and taxes collected.
Kemet Electronics is near where I live. They make a considerable chunk of electronics and computer related capiciotors. I have heard they started cutting costs through "dynamic engineering restructure" (what exactly does that spin mean) - ever since they have had to lay off lots of workers because they are getting less and less orders due to quality problems.
Think if something like this were integrated into an iPod. If you need ultrafast connection and large file exchanges + charging use firewire - if you need small files >2MB (calendar, notes, ID3 tags, playlists, contacts) just use Wifi. What would be even more amazing is if you could use an iPod to connect to the CDDB and get song titles. Think of the possibility of going up to someone's Mac and grabbing a couple of song titles - so when you got home or to the store, you'd know the name, artist, and album.
Think about also having multiple connection types. Don't have a firewire cable handy? Well, most everybody who's anybody today has 802.11 and soon will have bluetooth, plus you would even have to touch the back of a computer or string cables out onto the desk.
The unit looks to be as big as it it is because it uses a standard notebook drive, I imagine all these functions could fit in a device like the iPod with it's 1.8" drive.
Floppies are outdated technology, but my father had an interesting situation last tax season. With a floppy data is easily replaced quickly. Even small ammounts of data on CDRW take a while to rewrite. You also have to erase first in order to replace. A buggy, clunky zip wasn't an option. We opted for a superdisk. Also, he's USED to a floppy and thinks burning CDs seems wrong. I do agree that the floppy is outdated and if Dell wants to save a few bucks like Apple, then I say more power to em. I am considering a USB thumb drive as an option, my Dad would love something like that!
Serious medications already have this (in a way)

Serious medications or trial medications from most resources like Pfizer have been coming in little 30 day pill boxes for about a year that do "alarm" when needed. and DO document whether the little "box containing the pill" was opened within 30 minutes of the alarm. My grandmother has such a dosage meter/alarm for her parkinson's medication. It looks like a 3D calendar and she has to go exchange it for the "next month" every month - the pills are already placed in the proper compartments. (Some days have different dosage and some days have different medication)
Hasn't anyone ever bought one of those cell phone antennas that come on scotch tape. "It's like having a six foot antenna coming out of your cell phone!" I say you tape a bunch of these to an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper and then tape that to the back of laptop, shouldn't that give you a 250ft Wifi antenna?
Of course these "tape antennas" are $19.95 TV hoaxes. I'm sure this will happen one day, but I doubt if the company has anything behind their theoretical trial at this point.
Also modern chip lithography isn't much different from printing.

You were a bad seller! Just because someone doesn't pay full price or buys second hand doesn't mean they should expect less - and if that's your philosophy then - eBay isn't right for you. eBay IS a full time job IF you are there to make money. As for the people that sent "informationless" MO's. I have that happen too. But I keep good records. At least their names so I can match it up. That is your fault and very shameful if you wouldn't work for your customers.
Transactional feedback and limiting comments to few remarks was a good idea on eBay's part. If you have ever read a Yahoo negative.... well.... some can go on for pages. It's beyond absurd.
As a seller, I can see how ONE negative comment in my 1500 affects some bidders/sellers opinions. I have 10 negatives. Some are unfair comments. (IE, "Broke after a couple of uses" - how that's my fault, I have no idea) I think ALL negatives should be be "warned" and then posted 30 days later if no mutual resolve. For instance. If I want to post a negative, I should have to go through the same laborious process a seller has to go through to get a fees credit. That system prevents mass fraud because it is COMPLICATED. Often negative feedbacks and Neutrals for that matter are posted hastily and emotionally. I think if the negative poster had to wait 7 days for a response and then another 10 days for the comment to post (maybe a time for the receipient of the negative to work something out with Squaretrade) a lot of problems could be avoided.
One thing I have come to realize is that there are just rear ends every 1000 or so people. It doesn't matter what went right and what you can do, you are wrong and a scammer. The problem is, when people with big wallets and even bigger mental and social instability are able to get something in the media's eye and they lash out against eBay - it HURTS MY SALES TOO.
Have I done everything right on eBay? No. Have I made mistakes? yes. Have I learned anything? Yes. I encourage all to read and actually learn from my eBay ME page. I have been on eBay almost since it's inception. I find the issue of this article and the previous article about "scamming on eBay" very informative. I hope you find my eBay ME page informative as well and how I typically can avoid feedback problems. Also note how I handle my feedback by actually clicking on the number next to my name.
As a conservative, it would be UNIMAGINABLE to have a liberal that would have worse socio economic philosophy as a President. Then again - I live in niche state (SC)... lol.... maybe we get all the cool stuff like flying cars and free Pixar Movies.
As a note, I am Apple authorized technician, only use Apple, live / breathe Apple, think Steve Jobs is the best thing about Apple, but.... onay on the Residencypray!
Actually the StrongArm (used in most modern PocketPCs and similar now used in Palms) is a derivitive of the Newton processor. It wasn't the processor that enabled the handwriting it was the InkWell technology that now exists in Mac OS X.2. It's close to perfect. Try writing "eenie meenie decimeenie" on any PDA other than a Newton/OSX.2 in less than 20 seconds!!
Verizon has * and # four character numbers, why can't they have something like a **SLASHDOT number - I think characters and double pounds and stars would be very popular.
I have heard they are also going to do this in Atlanta (11 didgit numbers) - there's no way people will be able to remember all of those without a PDA / organizer or auto dial.
How would the system distinguish a new three digit by not dialing to the number it reached first in the common system?
Posters / replies have mentioned that online voting should be linked to identity - that poses the question of voters being able to be tracked based on political philosophy. This could become part of a government record and then used against you. For instance, I vote against ANY tax increase, would this flag me for an audit if my voting record were associated with my name in a government database? As it stands now, votes are counted and held for 30 days then destroyed in the US. Any recounts, discrepancies, must be checked in that time period. If not, a revote has to be held, if suspect tampering/fraud has occurred.
Yahoo is allowing spam to go relatively unchecked and unfiltered so that more and more will use their paid services. One that has been on the internet and using Yahoo for a few years can hardly survive with a free account anymore, even if you don't give out the email address.
Of course Yahoo also allows fraudulent auction listings to make up for sales too. More than 70% of the current auctions in the Macintosh category are either fraudulent or illegal to sell or both.
I once found out crucial recruiting info for a university sports team. Ended up there were recruiting violations and I could have ruined the athletic department with the evidence on the laptop I had. But technically, I "wasn't suppose to have seen that" - Also, it is illegal to view "known" private data. Even if in one's possesion. I think these "lookers" in this story should be prosecuted. They give people like myself who buy surplus a bad name and cause problems with buying surplus as MOST items require original hard drive data to function.
What about those of us who don't have landlines period? I only have cellphone service. What about being in contact with your wife or children in public places? Not every call "in a movie theater" is bad - it's those that forget to turn off the ringer. But, if I'da had vibrate on during a movie like "Basic Instinct" - I might not have known I'd gotten any calls;)
And why do you need profanity to make a point?
Google inked a deal with Apple to be included in the Safari Browser - posts indicate that has been dowloaded 500,000 times!! I have read other deals about Google using hardware and software solutions at GM
If your Macs crash all the time, then you have a problem that "technicians" should be fired for. It sounds to me like you have system/driver/up to date problems. - your arguement that you get proficient at whatever you work at is wrong. It has been proven time and again that the Mac is more intuitive and faster/easier to understand. (IE, 10 completely dumbfounded technologically, Senior citizens are given 1/2 Macs/PCs - told to get on the internet - in EVERY case the Macs get on, 1 or 2 out of the PC group couldn't even yurn on the computer or is still on the startup page) Both platforms (actually all three OS's;) are for different minds. The creative mind will do better on a Mac. Asthetic is a big part of the creative process. Often those with ugly surroundings (clutter, and GUI) will have less creativity. (See other psych tests)
It's not necessarily the speed - the UI makes a difference in workflow too. Some people feel Linux is faster because of the root access, others think this is mind numbing and non productive. The Mac has the best GUI BY FAR. In my opinion, it even inspires creativity. Look how ALL fashions instantly change to what is popular on the Mac. Brushed metal is the rage in home audio. Jaguar prints are the rage in fashion. Fruity see through was in vogue when the LifeSavers iMacs were produced. Switch style commercials are the current advertising trend.
It is: Guns don't kill people... people kill people. Taken further; machine guns or semi automatics don't kill more people & do more damage.... poor mental illness/neighborhood values (nuturing)/ethics... do more damage.
I personally don't think laws should be made, but rather existing ones enforced. I do beleive their should be a stated purpose for the gun and registering of guns. But, the two do very little for black market guns.
Well, if the band is SELLING them after the concert, it's not pirating. I suppose the RIAA would get upset; if I took that CD home, ripped it, and placed it on LimeWire ;)

If I go to Dell, I can configure a system shipped (no 800 firewire) for $1640 that is comparable to the base model.
