  1. Nintendo's #1 Mistake on Nintendo Learns from Mistakes with GameCube · · Score: 1

The #1 mistake that Nintendo made with the GameCube was locking the system so hard that nobody was ever able to successfully run homebrew or backups on it. The competing systems allowed it, and that seemed to be the only reason the Xbox got any sales at all (not counting people who bought it just for Halo.)

Whereas some of your comment may be true, much of it is unrelated. Having support for vCards and support for an open user directory are two completely different things.

For one thing, a server can have vCard support and no user directory. In fact, the vast majority of open, public Jabber servers fall under this category, including many of those still listed on that IM Federation site you linked to. But also, a server could have a user directory with no vCard support.

Google are already part of the XMPP network as far as the XMPP federation is concerned. Actually, isn't that other IM Federation site run by a company who makes a competing Jabber client? Wouldn't you expect such a company to come up with arbitrary reasons why a major competitor shouldn't be listed on their site? It does seem awfully convenient.

In this sense, Quake 2 kept the same game engine as Quake 1, just added features onto it. There was a marked difference between the quality of GTA3 and San Andreas, which is very noticeable if you play one and then the other, but don't play Vice City in-between.

Anyone who played the PS2 version though, probably wouldn't notice the difference, because the hardware capabilities of that particular pile of dog crap maxed out before GTA3.

Strictly speaking the limitation is 8 devices per network, so it doesn't matter what kind of devices they are. The limit is 8 for a net, and one of those is the master. Of course, nothing stops you having five Bluetooth devices in a single device, for a total of 28 peripherals.

That being said, I have a hard enough time finding three players to play a four player game. Can you really imagine trying to find seven players for an eight player game? Not to mention some sucker with a lounge room spacious enough to seat them all.

The grandparent poster was probably talking about standard Bluetooth HID. HID should be more than enough to control a robot (since you can basically represent any given joystick as a human interface device.) However, I doubt most phones' limited HID interface would offer nearly enough control for anything serious.

Then again, I thought most of the point of robotics was to make the things able to control themselves with a minimal amount of wetware.

Yes. As people have already pointed out, it's already quite possible to do any of this by programming both devices separately. However, the entire point of a DVR is to automate this so that you don't *have* to deal with them both separately. In many cases this is possible by having the DVR box send remote control signals to the cable box. However, that still prevents you watching another channel while it's recording. A true DVR system could handle two channels at once, but I suspect that flexibility is what worries Foxtel.
