My school has been adopting Linux in many areas. First of all the forum server (where students get thier homework, and teachers discuss) runs Redhat (I wanted to put Debian on there but Redhat was a much better distro to teach the people who will be taking over when I am gone next year) which was migrated by me and another student from Windows 2000. Many of my friends use Knoppix instead of the Novell junk, and we are workign to get a few computers in the Senior Computer Science classes set up with dual boots so that other people can learn the ways of the penguin. Although I do admit that since I am the Linux guru of the school I have been the one to make the most difference in the degree of adoption that my school has pursued thus far, many students other than I are taking Linux into thier own hands

  3. who cares on Why Nerds Are Unpopular · · Score: 1

OK I admit it, I am a nerd. And do you really think I give a shit?

I am the only person in the entire school (1200 people) to use Linux as my main desktop OS. I got a few other people into it but they at best dual boot. I am still the recognised Linux guy for the school (at least to those who know what linux is)

I am the server admin of the school forum server (running linux)

I think all your base is hilarious,

I can fix any computer, and enjoy calculus

I have bought my own computer, and spent another grand on programming books (continually learning new languages)

My friend made up his own dating system and I can tell you what Tuesday it is. (every day is Tuesday, except next millenium it will be Wednesday)

I exhibit very nerdly charectoristics and I DON"T CARE. I have a close circle of friends, say 5 or 6 people (hardcore computer nerds). And a very large circle of aquaintances (people who have some resemblance of a life outside computer related junk).

Popularity is such a relative thing that I don't even care. I got out of attempting to play that game a long time ago and have never looked back. I couldn't give a shit if a cheerleader thinks I am a geek. I really don't care what other people think of me. I am not depressed, I am not suicidal, those who do feel depressed because they are not one of the "popular" crowd are still trying to be one of them. It is much easier if you give up and be yourself.

Going out, getting drunk, and getting high really never appealed to me,

Room 112 at lunch (computer lab) at my school Is the best 72 minutes of my day. It is when I get to hear geeky jokes, it is when I get to play with computers, it is when I get to check Slashdot, configure a php server for a programming class, wallowing in my own geekyness

I am a nerd and proud of it.

The slashdot servers obvoisly have the capacity to deal with slashdot as all of the slashdottings originate here. Perhaps that is the better option instead of leaving it up to the readers to post mirrors, by the time any reader who has the means to post a mirror a good link is slashdotted.

AS i mentioned earlier the area to the right of my mouse is completely covered with crapm currently there is 2 hard drives, the notbook i use for my computer science dossier, some blank CDr's i bought last night, an empty spindle (ran out of that spindle last night and had to go and buy the currently almost full spindle) about 3" of paper, a C++ book, 2 DVD's. TO my right (sort of beside the desk) is 2 CD towers containing most of my CD's (not including my binder). My computer is to my left and on the floor, the side is perpetually off for easy access (as well as slightly lowered temps). Beside my computer is my sterio which i route the output from my soundcard to when not using my headphones. Beside my sterio is my printer, a crappy epson bubblejet which i have invested about $600 in ink cartrages (gotta get me a laser) since i got it, aobut 12 times the value of the printer,
