Certain benchmark software (none will be named) have been known to "tweak" their software for certain name brands. This practice isn't anything new, if you can recall the 3dfx days when nvidia was the challenger (voodoo 2 vx TNT 2). Nvidia clearly had the better card but voodoo 2 won on the bench marks.
"It's pretty expensive to upgrade software, not just in the cost of the product itself, but in lost productivity and people-hours needed to perform the upgrade"
Cost is indeed expensive, but I've upgraded over a hundred computers to xp via network installation and it only took about a little over an hour.
I for one believe that at times, less is more. I would consider this being such a situation. The majority of linux users use FTPs/IRC/Torrents etc for their "file sharing" needs. P2P is mostly used by windows users and those who don't have "connections".
P2P, blogging, etc.. is just a bit too much at this point, the last thing we need is the RIAA to come after open source programmers.
Whats really running thorugh people's minds is "does this mean that i'll have to upgrade my card if they upgrade their routers to continue stealing my internet from my neighbors?"
You have several options:
1.) New DVD players do have divx support but don't support xvid as of now.
2.) Mod your xbox, it will play anything you throw at it including ogg
