    Please RTFA.

The lawsuit was about loading MULTIPLE COPIES of the same LICENCED program. You purchase one licence, and are therefore not allowed to run multiple copies simultaneously.

Yeah, it's probably a bad decision. But it's nothing like "You can't load up (product) if your computer's memory contains a copy of (insert competing product here)."

It's "You can't load up (product) twice"

Being President of the United States means sometimes taking an unpopular stance on an issue despite the outcry of the public. It sometimes means thinking in the long term instead of the short, 24-hour sound-bite news cycle.

Unfortunately, getting elected means the exact opposite.

Indeed. Merely having tons of data doesn't actually give you insight into what you have measured. You must distill the data, pull out trends, and construct models. I just don't see how have mountains of data about a species, but still being unable to answer simple questions about it, is superior to conventional science (which can answer questions about the things it has discovered).

A deluge of data and data-mining techniques is a boon to science. But I don't see the benefit of giving up on the remarkably successful strategy of constructing models to explain the phenomena we've observed. I somehow doubt that having 20 petabytes of data on electron-electron interactions is more useful than having a concise theory of quantum mechanics.

The difference is that we now have the capability to collect meaningful data without an a priori model. This allows us to much more effectively construct a model based on data, rather than constructing a model and looking for data to validate or invalidate it (AKA the scientific method).

Helping out at schools is a GREAT way to give back to the community. I'm still in high school, but during my free periods I work in the computer lab at the inner-city elementary school that I attended. When schools are underfunded, the first thing that gets cut is generally language and computer education programs; often times these programs lack both personnel and equipment.

It's amazing how much difference a few hours a week can make to overworked and undertrained teachers and technicians.
