So you're tellin me that if kids who are bored with the school system applied themsleves and made themselves more bored, they'd be more successful?
Or to put that in lamens terms, if you're hitting your head on the wall to dround out the pain of getting kicked in the nuts hard by some girl, you should hit your head as hard as possible in order to be successful in this indeavor.
How about taking these bored kids, giving them decent books that
A: Aren't Condesending (Because you can't think of it this way, we do it this way)
B: Aren't Filled with groupthink (So WE do this, and WE do it this way, and WE blah blah blah)
C: Don't Creat an image that's desirable to become that ultamatly makes them lose touch with who they really are(The technician does it this way).
D: Actually has good information and is well written.
Then we surround them by teachers who care and are knowledgable and who don't waste the kids time by forcing them to do month long units on egypt including acting out plays and dances and the building of sugar cube pyramids (which is why they're bored in the first place, you dumbasses aren't doing anything useful in the first place), and let them teach themselves. Bored kids are bored because they are being held back and not being allowed to expand to their true potential, and not being allowed to go in the direction that intrests them the most. Forcing an entire class to, for example, read the same book is an example of this. Give the class a list of suggested books and allowing them to read the books they like is a far more constructive means of teaching them to read. If you snuff the fire out long enough in these kids, it'll go out in a puff of smoke and then it takes years and years to get that fire back, if they ever get it back. The bordem is conditioning them to be irresponsable, because when they go home they'll watch TV and play video games and do something fun and stimulating as supposed to reading an uninteresting book or doing boring homework that takes them 10 minutes to do. Learning is then associated with boardom for the dumber people, and for the rest of them who are smart they realise this is bad but they just don't care because they have no control over it. They can't control the fact that when they read any book, they got bored and nod off. They can't control the fact that doing the questions out of a book brings back the feeling of bring bored, it's human conditioning afterall. Trapped like a rat who has to press a lever that gives it a good jolt to get it's food.
They then fail or close-to-fail their classes because they don't give a shit and are ostrasized for not fallowing the system; by their parents, friends, teachers, everyone. They then turn to other means to reduce their depression of being ostrasized and being called stupid, often turning to drugs or media, music or parties, crime of some sort or boarderline crime like malicious hacking or phreaking. Some of them, rather most of them, get involved with good things like computers or electronics or some other difficult task instead of video games or television and they learn skills that allow them to survive.
Heaven forbid they ever learn what I just said because if they did they'd get really pissed. There's no telling what a pissed teenager who knows what you're upto can do, especially if they are smarter than you are and are well and truely, thoroughly pissed.
You can take your "Educational Career" and shove it. Read some John Taylor Gatto, that'll begin you on to understanding how you're disabling your students. Read some of Joan Batley's articles from www.etherzone.com and you'll realize some of the BS you're teaching.
The people in my family are smart, but unfortunatly they incessently bother me for help with their computers. What do I do when it becomes too much, or they give me a vague reference to what they want, I tell them it won't work that way, then yell at me when I try to give them the right way to get it to work?
Me: "Here ma, I have this 1000 page book, ooh, and here's another 826 page one, with a training guide. Hm,mm....better take along this 300 page networking manuel as well, and you'll need to refresh on your algebra and calculus skills."
I love em', but sometimes they need to know what they're asking.
Um...no. If you're a necropheliac, pedophile, and/or cannible and you get off to those things, fine. It's ok to fantisize; people fantisize all the time and it's a freedom that everyone values. If you begin to have urges to do those things, you should seek professional help because they are bad.
The very moment you actually do those things, is the moment you step over the line, and I get out the shotgun and begin huntin' for the sorry scum that did it. Violating a graveyard to get fresh corpses? no. You can argue that it doesn't cost anything to society all you want but would you like to be told by the cemitary your mothers body was removed, most likely by necropheliacs? Or how would you like to lose a friend to their fetish because they decided one day they wanted ot get killed and eaten by their buddy is some crazy sex ritual? As for pedophilia, that leaves real scars on young people, both from the rape part (from which comes a mistrust of society and the oppisite sex) and the confusion part (which completly screws up any chance of them having a healthy view of sex). IANAP, but if you want more info, look into the research.
Um, you lost the point. It isn't right to DO these things or support other people DOING them. It is ok to fantisize about doing it. If you actually do it, that's completly different than fantisizing about it.
Verisign is doing a good job with DNS right now (more or less, the internet works for people). Why change it unless they are unfit to do their job?
I may not know all of their crimes and injustices against people, what I do know is that if they do manage to implement this kind of BS, it'll get blocked as people need those wildcards for their systems to function. If they continue to abuse the fact that people point their DNS servers to Verisigns root servers, they won't be pointing there for very long because someone is going to creat an alternative. That's something you can't legislate or really even tell people they can or can't do.
When there's a widespread problem caused by that something; a relation between it's existance and certain acts.
For example, a pedophilia UBB. People will talk privatly about screwing kids, give eachother techniques, encouragement, images and art, etc. Even among this class of social scum, there's certain guidelines and problems (even common ones) that are discussed.
Necrophilia and Canniblism, on the other hand, are differnet subjects entirely, but the same rules apply.
The point here is, the goverment wants to discourage these acts because they are wrong, but in order to discourage them they must trample over civil rights and our right to screw ourselves up. They think the sick fucks who like jackin off to art (not pictures of, art) of little kids getting screwed will turn into them actually doing it. It's akin to thinking because millions of geeks jack off to porn, and because when you jack off to porn you're inherently violating the target without their permission, that geeks will rape people. Infact, most geeks use porn as an outlet for sexual tension, therefore relieving the very need for sex, and therefore, rape. All of these are preversions of sexuality, and are bad in some way or another; cannibalism is an antisocial practice as well as one that gets you to kill people(or get yourself killed by being eaten), necrophelia is a practice that gets you to go out and poison your body by screwing dead people, etc. As far as having effects on other unconsenting, this is where 2 groups of people emerge.
There's a difference between the sick fuck who jacks off to art of kids getting screwed, and the sick fuck who goes out and does it or encourages it(financially or otherwise). One is actually hurting someone, the other isn't. In addition, the one who jacks off to art only probably knows it's a bad thing, and some of them probably hate themselves for doing it. Yes, there is some interleave (the artist may be screwing kids for inspiration), but you simply don't persecute people for doing something with themselves that has no effect or a tolerable effect on you.
What's probably going on is someone somewhere decided they felt threatened by the very existance of non-violent necropheliacs or cannibals, and decided they wanted to get rid of it(the religious right, for example, is full of such people). To this, I say good luck. What'll happen is the hardcore people will get more hardcore, and the people who dabble here and there and know it's bad will either stop or be driven underground and you'll never catch them. Then, when your campaign has no effect on the rates or rape, cannibalism, or necrophelia, and costs billions you'll be laughed out of power.
As for videogames, those are a perversion of reality. I play a lot of videogames, but that doesn't mean I'm violent. Again, the same system is applyable. The kids who shoot at cars to see them go by real fast and are idiots, need to be taken care of. Hell, I have fun playing GTA and singing "This is how we speed up traffic, speed up traffic, speed up traffic. This is how we speed up traffic, all day looooooooooooooooooong", but I know going out and doing the same thing in real life is wrong and moreso, I hatemyself for thinking I'd enjoy it, and feel guilty for doing it in the game. The rest of us, the overwhelming majority, don't speed up traffic with an ak47 in real life. Infact it has very little effect on our society as a whole. Now, if we were all running around with guns trying to shoot eachother like in counterstrike, that's a different story entirely. If you want a good read on them, read "On killing". It was written by a former army corperal (I think) and details how videogames and television compliment help to overcome our natural impulse not to kill eachother. That is videogames' true effect besides acting as an escape from reality.
You can demand any price for the cost of distrobution. Red hat is providing support services, and continual update services for the price of the software, that's their main charge. They also put a lot of work into the OS, and while they are required to include the source code with the package, they can sell it at the cost of distrobution (distrobution can technically include cost of update/repair/upgrade), although there's no restrictions to distributing it aside from giving credit to the authors and including the source code.
I sell chairs, and I'v got a monopoly selling chairs. Someone else makes pillows that goes on chairs, and there's a market doing that. I then begin selling pillows with my chairs, thereby taking over that pillow market forcibly. This is an antitrust violation.
I sell chairs, and I'v got a chair monopoly that's going well. I decide I want to start making and selling tables without any chairs, so I begin doing that. This is free-market trade, the use of brand-name and investment capital are what is going to give me an edge in the couch market.
If I have a monopoly in chairs and I begin making dining sets, and none of my competition buys my chairs. It can be argued that even though dining sets do include chairs, and I am using my product to weasle my way into another market, it isn't going to win over that entire market. I don't have control over the dining table market because the market isn't dependant on my product.
Whenever you use your product/service to take control of another market when that market is partially dependant on your product, that's an antitrust violation.
Microsoft sells an operating system, they begin packaging software with that operating system; games, tools, etc. Are they using one product to take a monopoly in other product's markets? Yes, therefore it's an antitrust violation.
Microsoft can sell an individual antivirus software package and so long as they don't package it with their OS, they're fine. Alternativally, if they really want to include an antivirus package, they can go ahead and install 2 or 3 (make deals to give away a free month of each) and see what the customers choose, and hopefully all 3 companies won't be charged with antitrust violations.
The main arguement in the courts has been at getting microsoft to unbundle it's internet explorer browser with it's operating system. Microsoft was arguing that the OS is the browser, and infact they are competing fairly. Frankly, it doesn't matter if you glue or weave the pillow to the chair or not, as soon as you add that pillow, you're guilty of trying to take over other markets.
Well, last time I checked GE and GM were the same company (spare my spelling and grammar...and drunken logic). They've been engineering crops for the past decade and planting them out in wide open fields. Crops that automatically produce pesticides that kill off predators. They want to put it onto the world market without testing, just like Montanso creats false research, submits it to the FDA as real research, then goes ahead and begins selling surcrose, monosodium glutamate, aspartame, neotin ect.
The short-term research shows and gives that only a small amount of those products can be added to food. The independant research doctors wanted to do on the long-term effects, of for example Monosodium glutamate, were canceled because the doctors couldn't bear to violate their hippocratic oath. They came back with every ailment in the book, and a few of their older patients developed debilitating nuero-degeneritive diseases like parkinsons and altimers. Why do I believe that? Because before I got off of all of montanso's great products (which are mislabeled in about 60% of our foods BTW, goto www.ideatown.com/nxta ) I'd get pissed off at the drop of a pin (as in, someone would come to the kitchen table, talk to me, and I'd yell at them) and couldn't think straight. My blood pressure also dropped from 160/87 to 128/62 within a 6 month period. I haven't turned back to eating foods with those things in them, it's been tough and I'v had to make sacrifies but I feel much better.
GE also makes nuclear power plants and weapons. The reason you never see CBS bash nuclear power plants or war, is because they own CBS. They also make gigantic campaign controbutions to your goverment. Of course out goverment is addicted to their money and has to think of the bad PR restructuring the economy after breaking up these megacorps would cause. So, they don't do it, and things get worse and worse.
And a lone paperclipman is going to destroy our freedoms?
Think of what hitler could do if he had all that information. He could've rounded up ALL the jews. What if china attacks? I wonder where all the slot-eyed tan people are going to go, hmmmm? It's a little known fact that many japanese families in WW2 were taken to concentration camps (although they got an education, food, water, etc there), many old heirlooms were destroyed by hateful people and goverment officials confiscated stuff if they wanted it.
Can that cop pull up a list of books people have purchased? Or better yet, would anyone care if the police decided to start putting people in jail for owning certain books?
What happens when the database begins tracking everywhere you go, pointing out the small descrepencies in your life that look suspicious. What then? What happens when it begins to catalouge evidence?
Most people don't consider smoking marajuana or selling marajuana a federal offense, but the cops do. With a system like that, they can track everything.
What happens if the religious right gets involved in all this?
"Well Mr Anderson, seems like you've been seeing Betty a lot, and she's been spending the night over for longer and longer periods. Time to goto jail, Mr Anderson, sex without marrage is wrong."
Right now it's just a bunch of information they've collected. As long as it's used for good things that everyone believes in, like catching rapists, murderers, frauds and the like and not for legislating morality or decency, we'll be just fine. Our goverment is handling the drug war by making all kinds of minimum sentances, putting little kinds in jail for 20 years for stealing a candy bar. 3 strikes your out programs that give life sentances and death penalties for getting into a few fights while your in prison and stealing televisions. Privitized prisons which make a profit at incarcerating people, who they then torture to get them to rat out their friends. All kinds of promises to make punishments worse and worse to deter their form of crime. Then turning around and not handling other, much more serious criminals like the RIAA, Microsoft, MPAA, GE, GM, Montanso, Nestle, etc. I can definatly see a tyrrany coming into play in a decade or two like no other tyrrany we've ever known. Accept this one won't be about jews, blacks, or captialism. This one will be about ideologically cleansing the world of anyone with a view that doesn't complement your agenda under false guises. Unlisenced knowledge if pornagraphy, and dangerous you know. And if you've got a bunch of guys with guns and toys who don't mind running around after such idiocy, you've got a tyrrany.
Refering to the GPL as viral is just plain greedy. GPL has a snowballing effect; if you use it, the cost of using it is releasing your work for free. Now, if you've got a router and you're going to spend 12 months desiging an IOS when 3 months of developmenet on linux will do, you've got to balance that.
What nasa has is public domain, which is different. You can take a piece of public domain and do anything you want with it but tell someone else what they can do with it.
Personally, I think the GPL is very very fair for what it provides. You save 9 months in developement work, but you've got to release the software at no cost or you can sell the software at cost of distribution.
So nasa has to find it's own level of balance with what it wants to keep people doing with it's code.
Half the problem we're having in iraq is that americans are going in and bombing and killing civilians. There have been 10,000 iraqi insurgent casualties, and over 40,000 civilian casualties. The other problem, is that Suddam's guardesman, you know the Iraqi royal army as I believe they're called, have weapons caches all over the place. So our soldiers have to stick to the cities, and the people they're pissing off there have a virtually unlimited weapons supply from the saddan's 50,000 strong eliet guard. There's a reason those craters are there for supposed car bombs. Explosions go towards the least pressurized areas, not 5 feet into the ground and leave the engine of a car 100 or so meters away. A well placed remote detonatable mine does that. There's no way in hell we're going to be able to secure iraq without a major draft, better equipment and a lot of time. It's a better idea to hand iraq over to the people asap, via a democracy or some form of goverment they want, and give them money and advice on how to run their country, and hope for the best.
Apparently, millions of americans don't want those laws enforced, and millions more are pissed off at the RIAA's campaign to sue people. What they are doing is racketeering. If they really wanted to settle the situation they'd carry the case all the way out and fully persecute the person, then collect their cash.
You sound like a moral person, what if the RIAA came upto you and tried to prosecute you, then offered settlement? Doesn't matter weither or not you did do it, they claim to have evidence and their settlement is low enough that you might as well pay it as going to court will be more expensive. You'd get screwed over for a few grand by them and be pissed off. This is what racketeering is. Most likely, the evidence the RIAA has on this women is extremly poor and to par, it's reproducable.
Unfortunatly, we aren't talking about black market traders who actually produce video's and sell them illegally, we're talking about a couple million americans who swap copyrighted works for free. You can't stop that no matter how big of a organization you are. Just look at what our country is trying to do with drugs, is it working? I'd call the drug war one of the most fantastic blunders of american society, right next to the public school system and our war on terrorism.
The RIAA and MPAA are cartels, any moral person with an education will come to the understanding of why cartels are bad and must be abolished; they sit ontop of a resource in some manner and inflate the price and demand for that resource artificially. When cartels are done away with, markets resume their normal and proper operation.
Firstly, the middle class pays the most taxes and is the biggest class.
Secondly, slums are slums are slums. Some people have 4 kids and can't afford to chuck over taxes to uncle sam.
Unenployment has been going up and up and up. Lots of people are out of jobs thanks to outsourcing and corperate greed. Bush has been lieing about that, although I would state that even the official statistics are BS becuase they don't include several measures.
And does the GDP being higher make paying back the dept so much faster that it'll get payed back in 4 years?
Finally, do some research on the drug war. What's worse, raping someone or selling pot? Unfortunatly our goverment thinks selling pot is worse. Remember good ol' George Bush senior's words "Using illegal drugs is against the law, and when you are caught, you will be punished. Some people don't think there won't be room for them in jail, we'll make room... The rules have changed".
Because BMW would get pissed and throw a legal tantrum?
I remember an old game called total annihilation that was made in 1997, it's got a cult-like fallowing now, and arguably has more mods than any other game in existance. Cavedog made it, and the IP/trademarks/copyright etc belongs to infograms. Could they go ahead and tell the community they can't mod their game or pick apart exploites to add new features, etc? Well gee, they've been doing that for the past 7 years and infograme's time to complain has long since passed on that subject. There is such of a thing as consent by non-defense. If you let people tread all over your works with your knowledge, then they in time can arguably become public domain. Happens with trademarks(can't trademark a word, now can you?), and it can happen with copyright and intellectual property as well. Especially if they've made something completly new. Heck, you could take TA and repackage it with a new frontend, 4 races, and some hacked stuff and throw it onto the storeshelf and have an arguable case for taking something and changing it enough to resell it.
So, to end the lesson, there was this car, that had a microprocessor in it that'd run linux, and everyone started modding it....
Kinda difficult to meet the win2k minimum requirements on a toaster or blender, much less a new fancy electricly-controlled car. I mean, gee, you can't even strip out the GUI from that thing, Bill Gates said that himself. Mabye you can get rid of useless stuff, like solitare, or ppp networking options, but that only takes away like, 40 or 50 megs, and you remove the ability for your car to network with your laptop. Some people like using joysticks or keys to drive their cars, what about the innovation?
Then you've got the EULA. Oh dear god, could you imagine how long it'd be for a car running win2k? No less than 2 miles in 4 point font no doubt.
They call them "tax cheats", we call them "people who can't pay taxes because if they did, they'd starve to death or couldn't cloth themselves". Interesting how in today's world the goverment's mouth comes before your kids' mouths, huh? But that's an old arguement. Just because unenployment is skyrocketing, our country is going into great debt, and the US prison industry is the fastest growing of them all is no reason to fear this one.
So, lets say the goverment decides they want to pass a totalitarian-like tax, say something rediculous like internet tax or media tax; they now have the enforcability. So if you decide to feed your kids instead of pay your taxes, guess what happens? Right into the knocker. And if orphanages become overfilled with kids, those kids go into any home that wants them, for any thing.
There are other people who don't pay taxes because they simply can't afford to. They have to pay rent to their slum lord to stay in their nice shithole apartment, or pay for food, clothing, college, car, car repairs, gas, etc. These people also have home buisnesses; a lot of computer technicians have started their own repair shops or networking contracts out of their home, and they live contract to contract and make barely enough to get by. What if they had to make 40% more?
Choose conspiracy, and everyone denies what you just said on the grounds it's looney because they've been programmed by television and movies not to believe the whacko person spouting truth, instead of using their brains. Heck, even in school they teach you to use CNN or Reuters, BBC and other sources instead of the internet. Don't listen to the people with good information and proof that can be copied the world around kids, Fox is spouting about how some kid got killed tonight in a horrible way, and then there's commercials about RFID tags to keep the kids safe! Talk about a pide piper.
Tell me this, 2 identical counties, in 2 different states. Both with records of voting unanimously democratic for a number of decades, all of a sudden one votes unanimously republican. The difference? The voting machines. When you trace back the money, the republicans have themselves knee deep in the whole mess. The democrats aren't much better.
Paranoia is one thing, Mr Funny, the scientific process is another. What I think is that our representitives have forgotten one thing; they're here to serve us, they are here for us, not for themselves. This is a republic of the people and for the people, and while many are asleep at the wheel so to speak, americans aren't dumb, just slow to anger. Everyone speaks of our political times as "interesting", in the tense of how a bull fighter with a.50 cal hidden behind the red carpet tempts a bull.
Sometimes I think a constitutional amendment stating that all voting mechanisms must be open to all to see, a paper ballot alternative must be available and counted, a paper reciept must be issued with every vote, and if 5% or 10% of the people want a recount or revote (via signed petition), one happens would be a good idea. But I understand it's our responsability to stop these freaks of nature from destroying our republic.
There's a lot of damned fine red blood on those red stripes, gallons of sweat on the white stripes, and billions of tears for stars with a dark backround on the American flag. I'd die before I'd let tyrrany be instituted in this country.
You decide to scan in an article from the newspaper of a story you want to keep, but since it's got an RFID tag, the scanner won't let you scan it, windows won't let you manipulate it, and applications won't let you copy it.
Your printer won't let you print a piece off of the internet, because the first few lines it prints is the RFID code which transmitts that it isn't sendable.
In George orwells 1984, nobody had newspapers, they were all destroyed the day they went out. Systematically collected and destroyed whenever it was convient to change the information. Just imagine what a electronic media monopoly could do. Ever watch Max Headroom?
I am not a science fiction writer, and that isn't an extreme example. That's a very close and very real possibility. I am not paranoid, you simply don't have a good grasp on reality. You can't just take an article and say "oh, that isn't scary". Combine this with DRM, longhorn with manditory autoupdating, and a media monopoly. Scared yet? How about chipping humans, clamping down on trade. How about internet ver 2?
Just wow. If the source code got leaked, Win2k will get exploited by...just holy jesus save us all. Seriously, the word "fuck" comes into my brain a million times over. Seriously, viruses much? Pron sites are going to have a field day spyware. Then of course you've got all of those shiney machines running embedded windows. The bar to hacking the planet has been lowered. Many good hackers like their steak n' potatoes and will not do anything real bad to screw up the net. But now if someone can get access to the win2k source code via p2p networks, holey moley. That script kitty with a little knowledge of whatever language windows is written in can really do some damage.
I mean, with linux there's a temptation but nobody runs it. With windows, everyone runs it.
Then you've got the consiracy theory: MS leaked it intentionally so they can get everyone to patch with their DRM system. Possible, but who's going to go after that when linux is here? DRM and years of MS abuse and domination, or a 1-time switch over with occasional retraining of employee's.
I mean, I like linux and all but this isn't the way to win at all. I thought we were going to slowly beat them back into submission and competition, not completly screw them and quite a few million over. Hell, I'm thinking of taking a few games and making some fakes on my boxen and getting guys to share MD5 hashes just to make them look more real.
Well, time to begin caching DNS entries to websites I use the most, and it may be high time to backup some of this data and close all the nat ports on my router just to be extra safe.
Talk about a digital pearl harbor, holey moley this isn't good.
"And I wonder, what do the real ants think about me?"
Ant: W0000, a nice yummy crumb. Oh wow...wtf? What the HELL is that? The ground is moving all around me.
*several seconds later and one missed pot shot at the ant*
Ant: OH DEAR GOD! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHHHHH

Sorry...someone HAD to say it at some point or another.
How much memory does one of these devices have?
64k? 128? 1 meg? 2 meg? 128 meg?
Hmmm....a better question would be, does it support relational databases that store gigs of information, and hook upto a PC?
No, you're one seriously paranoid and frigtened person who doesn't understand what "innocent until prooven guilty" is.
Correction.
Mabye because the internet pays for itself with the amount of information it provides?
Talk about a pide piper.
.50 cal hidden behind the red carpet tempts a bull.
Everyone speaks of our political times as "interesting", in the tense of how a bull fighter with a
Sometimes I think a constitutional amendment stating that all voting mechanisms must be open to all to see, a paper ballot alternative must be available and counted, a paper reciept must be issued with every vote, and if 5% or 10% of the people want a recount or revote (via signed petition), one happens would be a good idea.
"And I wonder, what do the real ants think about me?" Ant: W0000, a nice yummy crumb. Oh wow...wtf? What the HELL is that? The ground is moving all around me. *several seconds later and one missed pot shot at the ant* Ant: OH DEAR GOD! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHHHHH
