When you do something different, it doesn't have to be special of perfect, because it is different. And that is what Doom did. It may not have been the most creative game around, but it had way to many "firsts" to disregard. Doom is STILL making waves. You will find it on your GBA, and now on mobile phones (the new Nokias)!!! That speaks a lot for its popularity.
Meanwhile, I'm surprised that only ONE post refered to the song.. aka.. blood on the wall. It has been sung my an ex-Nazareth group member.. and that AGAIN says a lot for the popularity of the game. It's a gr8 song, better than lotsa the **** that plays these days....
Apple has been quite aggressive with its quicktime technology. By choosing to host all major motion picture trailers, it has made a good move. I always go for the quicktime trailer rather than windows media trailer. I get to play (ffw and rwd) with my quicktime trailers, whereas for the windows media trailer, once it's looped it has to start from the beginning.
All players play mp3z these days. The why choose winamp over sonique? That's why, I think this article makes sense. I would be happier to see quicktime on my mobile, rather than MS.
That must have hurt Sony. However, this shows how important the "brand"/name is to a company. Hmm.. I wonder if Micrsoft will get sued by some sextoy company for using "XBox".
This case is very interesting though. There was no news about this "Playstation" controversy. Doesn't a company have to run through an agency before it launches a product of a particular name?
they are auctioning stupidity.. and people are actually bidding and consequentially paying up for it:D
I'm surprised that none of these users have sued.
Interesting...... Gives rise to lots of new avenues for hacking too. Imagine to not have to be PHYSICALLY wired in. Instead... use your laptop to connect to your target server's airport and VOILA! Maybe companies will sheild their office complexes, so that a guy sitting outside the fence can't mess around with their data.
Exciting possibities....
either result in mundane Linux users, or HARDCORE linux hackers:D Both of which, I guess, are better than mundane Windoze clickers.
Unfortunately, unless we have an industry standard office suit to compete with Microsoft Office, lots of companies are going to hold back. Comments, merging and other aspects of Word which make professional and academic documents exchanging and analyzing easier are still missing in Open/Staroffice. The publishing industry: they would love to shift to linux, but the fonts/word processor aren't up to the mark. But Linux will get there -> soon.
was the first to fly..ok.. BUT, we all forget Leonardo Da Vinci and his flying machine.
We should rephrase and specify that the kiwi/wright brothers are the first documented modern flight personalities. Old epics such as the Mahabharatha and Ramayana (which countries like India,Sri Lanka and Indonesia believe in) have records of flying vehicles.

Even good ole slashdot has made it. After all , most sites linked from slashdot get slashdotted. We have the southpark syndrome for all the extra-abusive nerds, we have the bill clinton neo for all in-office perverts.. the list is long.... there must be a list out there... gotta find it. Oops.. i mean gotta google it.
I'll put up the link so that we can slashdot that site.

Google's new toys

Google has access to so much information. A study of human behavior and interests can be made by just parking yourself at the Google HQ, where apparantly, they have lotsa screens which keep displaying the kinda stuff people are looking for. Beats trainspotting;)
Another google toy : it's fun to use. The Google Mirror. It's a blast, you actually gotta enter your query the other way around, coz it's a MIRROR silly !!
has some interesting stuff to say, but he says it from the Publisher's point of view. I wonder, to what depth, has OReilly actually explored digital media , that he can make such authoritative comments. As of now, I'm very sure that record/movie houses are losing much more money than our man Tim. Anyhow, it's much easier to read a book printed on media, rather than an e-book. That's another reason why tablet pcs haven't become too popular.
Probably, movie/music houses make more money than publishers. And no amount of money can EVER, EVER be enough. Recently, one of these young pop guys was interviewed regarding the P2P situation. He was happy abt it.. when asked about money, he replied - he has enough. That made me think - Imagine, if you have made $10million of your album, why not put it up for free d/l, one year down the lane ?? It can be additional publicity for that artist's newer albums.......
My first computer (10yrs or more) was a 386 with a 5quater drive and a 100mb hdd, 640k ram and no mouse. Windows 3.1 was going to happen. Yah, it all sounds funny now, but with the recent remark that Moore's law may soon become obsolete, we may not get MUCH faster computers on current technology. I guess we'll have different architectured.... quantum computing and DNA computing seem to be hot areas.
A question though, was it just built 50 yrs back, or has it had an up-time of 50yrs ?????:p
Magazine featured a list of the almost available gadgets that will revolutionize the way we live. This article was featured in a late Nov issue. Of the featured gadgets, one was a projected keyboard. It consisted of this tiny projector/sensor which projects the image of a keyboard on a flat surface. As your finders touch the kyes(or rather the image of the keys), the sensor, by calculating the position of ure finger would know which key you are pressing. Now that's technology !! And no strain. These gloves look ergonamic all rite, but I would prefer this projected keyboard system.
Now, that's called true multitasking !!!! Utilizing their resources, while on display, is brilliant. I agree that may not find many corporate clients, but what about supporting the open source community ? Developers can play with the grid, or enthusiasts can experiment with this concept. International organizations such as WHO which do not need to keep their research confidential can also exploit this setup. The other advantage here is that these gateway machines will not be loaded with heavy applications (MS apps on corporate computers will minimize the contribution of that's computer's processing power!. Atleast Gateway is trying to be constructive....
Well.. its not like MS will sell an older version of Office for that high a price... but then again, its MS. And if MS is planning to enter the "Open Source Market", they would be fools to price their products so high. It's all speculation.......
Microsoft is already planning to keep Office 11 on Windows 2000 and the XP platform only. It may make sense for them to actually market MS Office 2000 for Linux. After all, they make a helluva lota money from their Office suite. It's a product, it's an MS product and it's widely accepted. Ofcourse, that MAY encourage more users to jump to Linux, but atleast they will be generating revenues from the Office suite sales. The other questions is - will Linux geeks touch Office for Linux ? The point here is - if you are paying for Star Office, why not pay for MS Office, especially if it runs on Linux ?
Lots of these pre-releases can be limited publicity gimmicks. release the movie - but make sure its a pathetic print. As a result , the buzz may spread that the movie is good, but people would have to wait for it to hit the theatres. Apparantly, lots of these hacking groups rely on in-house gamedevelopers to hand them copies of games. I guess the DOOM III alpha can be cited as an example.
China has always been good with replication (yes, it reflects on their population too;)). They are bright, intelligent and hard workers. I guess they lack that innovative touch, otherwise they would have shaken the world by now. It's not just China. I'm pretty sure that Malaysia, Thailand will also have copies floating around. DVDs... now that's the shocker. We've heard of cds, they are cheap and easy to duplicate. Usually they dump "Camera prints" on their early releases, but DVDs ?? Are they proper DVDs or are they just camera prints dumped on DVD media ?
Their loss though, coz such an epic will lose its impact if not seen on the big screen !!!!
Seems to be going the Microsoft way. They seem to be exploiting their monopoly in their sphere of business. Their recent ploy to patent their click n buy commerce system had attracted lots of attention from the people and the OS community. Many Open-letters were exchanged. But people seemt haev already forgotten; the average human, understandably is worried only about factors that affect him, and that too, immediatly. Now this new issue....
Why is this such a big issue? Well the "12th second level domain" phrase surprised me. This reminds of the recent Australian IT minister's speech, which was discussed (mercilessly) at slashdot. Looks like the NZ internet situation is even worse than the Australian situation. Anyways, I hope these geeks succeed.
in its infancy. It's scope is restricted. It can never be a "jack of all trades". AI, to a large level, still seems to be hardcoded. But soon, I guess you have an AI module, to which a physical model is assigned, and then it is "trained". That module could be taught how to drive a car, or how to duck and shoot, or BOTH.
Anyways, coming to the topic of AI and entertainment, if u have visited the LOTR - TTT site, you'll see an interactive MASSIVE system. Imagine making a few entities interact, waiting for the sequence to render and then view the final movie that has been created....
the title of the submission suggested machines, but hey, these are works of art, evolving moving sculptures. Look bizzare, will fit very will into a sci fi movie (kinda made me think of the new Time Machine movie).
I still don't understand though as to how he plans to keep them moving after the wind dies down. These must be high effeciency machines to be actually able to move on "legs". I wonder, if they can take any load, or maybe even a person (yah, it may be kinda boring to wait for a strong gust of wind - gives a new perspective of being in the doldrums).
It's never that simple, is it? You always have the extra unexpected/unpredictable element : Yah, even in case of vampires. Consider Blade ][; it wasn't just vampires and humans. You have the daywalker(aka blade) and you have the reapers. I guess the large number of vampires can be attributed to the larger size of the study area.
The equation between vampires and humans is interesting; but why ignore these other elements? (unless ofcourse this is a BUFFY fan analysis)
I distinctly remember a law suit which involved a customer suing McDonalds because they hadn't warned her that the coffee was HOT. I guess laptops have to come with that warning too. Meanwhile, The register (register.co.uk) had an article about a buy burning his weenie thanks to a laptop.
The bonus - here is a link for a genius who wanted to water cool his cpu http://www.avforums.com/frame.html?http://www.avfo rums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=24bcc587f9de10276 57e1d7862a85f58&threadid=56924
Mars has always been a mystery to us humans, right from H.G.Well's War of the world , to the recent Red Planet, we've been fantasizing about Mars. The Pathfinder has been the most exciting Mars project yet !!!
It's interesting to read theories as in this article, but then that's what they are-theories. I wonder if we will ever be able to CONCLUSIVELY prove such theories. (other than using a time machine;) )
