That doesn't really refute the point about nuclar being the best way for society to generate huge amounts of CO2-free energy. Investment in solar panels is a waste of money which could be going into nuclear (which is expensive, but so are other green energies), IMHO.

  3. Why should I? on Maybe With Help From Google and Adobe, Microsoft Can Kill Windows XP · · Score: 1

Why should users be cajoled into "up"grading from XP? Some people still have classic cars from the 1950s, and they're *hardware* which needs repairing over time, unlike software. I still run XP at home, as it's good enough for me and I don't really feel like paying for Windows 7. I put my own PCs' hardware together and I don't feel like reactivating Win7 every time I change things. Windows 7 even downgrades some things IMHO like the start menu and search (Explorer search in 7 is apalling compared to Windows XP's search interface).

This is all to do with MS making money, which is frankly a sucky reason for people to "up"grade.

Frankly, if there was never another /. article involving anything that piece of crap had to say, we would still have about three dozen too many articles out there involving his weasily mutterings.

The thing is, I think Mono has been a really good thing for cross-platform compatibility. I can easily write a GTK# app that will work on Windows, Linux, and MacOSX. I thought Mono might be some Microsoft plot to kill Linux but in reality it's made it much easier for me to write a Linux/Windows app. I don't want to have to create two codebases for two different GUIs. If that makes the Linux GUI like Windows, then good. Windows' GUI is fine (well before Windows 8, anyway).

But then why did the UK government issue a thinly-veiled threat to invade the Ecuadorian embassy, reiterate that threat recently by refusing to rule out the idea of violating diplomatic immunity, and come pretty close to storming the embassy because of heavy US pressure to do so, according to former UK diplomat Craig Murray?
