I don't mind the one button mouse. I hate walking through someone over the phone and they'll ask things like, "Which button?" "The left button?"
It's just easier with ONE. The only thing I use my right mouse button for is 'open page in new tab'. Which could be done by hold the first button on the link, and waiting for the pop up menu.
Think about the markets that Microsoft hasn't entered yet:
AutoCAD Desktop Publishing Graphics Design
Quark, MacroMedia, Adobe, these guys are still selling program for $700
Another thing Microsoft has done is including things with the operating system. Previously you might have to purchase things like Trumpet Winsock or Netscape in order to browse the Internet. These days you just click on the Internet Explorer icon.
Locking up an emergency button defeats the purpose. They'll typically have a plastic cover you need to lift or some other mechanism to make sure it cant be done by accident. If the person who did it wont own up, they should have it fingerprinted. I mean... how many other people have pressed it? Should be fairly easy.
A local businessman has set up an 'eBay Consignment' shop, you drop off an item, and he sells it on eBay for a fee. He takes pictures, does the description, lists the item...
Hell, a 500mhz and 256mb is more than enough for a lot of people to write documents and browse the web, but you will never see such a system on Dell website for $120:).
I'll agree. Most of our machines at the office are like that and I rarely get any complaints.
On the other hand, Dell wouldn't be able to sell a Pentium 4 1GHz, 256MB, 20GB, much cheaper than a Pentium 4 2GHz, 512MB, 60GB.
Have you looked to see what kind of PC you can get BRAND NEW for $250 these days? Makes buying a $150 used system kind of moot.
This is the last Gamespot link today. I'm only posting thisGran Turismo because it hits close to home for me as I'm still immensely disappointed, and in a world where all is right and just, and Sony aren't (insert expletive of choice here), I'd be playing this game right now.
Gran Turismo 4. First the game is delayed several times. Then Sony announce it will ship without online play so they can fleece you down the line for an online version of the exact same title, thus maximizing profits. Then a hard release date is known. December 15th. (Or 14th, depending on where you looked.) Then, with about three weeks to go, the game was pulled, despite being reported as being finished and having gone gold. Japan gets it in about three days time, the US market gets it mid February or March, depending on your source. As for Europe... I don't think any date is known, but you European types, if you know, post it.
I was greatly looking forward to this game at Christmas, as were many other fans. Expect the cartoon adaptation of "How Sony Stole Christmas" to be on TV next winter...
IBM Invented the trackpoint or whatever they call it.
You know, the little 'eraserhead' that goes in the middle of the keyboard?
Toshiba might still use a similar device as well.
Have you considered a TabletPC?
Does anyone have the link to the cell that had sensors attached to it, and it was flying a flight simulator?
Sorry, a console won't have enough RAM to do anything useful.
Many of these commercials are like that. They'll show a cartoon of some sort and show about 3 seconds of gameplay at the end.
The Crystalis one shows a guy running around in a really bad warrior costume.
Don't forget http://www.gamasutra.com/ and the PCGPE, even if it's older than dirt.
Buy a couple of his books. You can find them dirt cheap at discount book stores or eBay.
If you want to go cross-platform, pick up his Java book. You could be writing primitive games in a week.

Apple's done similar moves before. And been successful.
The iMac came out, it was what, $999, and it only had 32MB/4GB/233MHz, no real expandability
The Mac Classic came out, $999, only 8MHz
Games just have to look right, they don't have to 'be' right.
I don't think either of them can beat Sony and the other.
I clicked on that link. Saw a source comment with 'Ken S.' on it.
Sure enough, Ken Silverman (of Duke3D/Build fame) wrote it.

Tapes aren't that expensive. One set a month/year isn't extreme.
They're really cheap when you consider a $40 tape vs spending a week re-creating a document from a hard copy (if you have it)
What happens when you need a file from:
Yesterday
Last Monday
Last year?
Backing it up. HD's have far outpaced backups in price/speed
1TB NAS? 400GB HD?
No problem. Want it backed up to ONE tape? Every day? Have fun.

Video survellience camera, anyone?
When did you go to high school? 1993?
I think he's more famous for creating glide when he was at 3DFX
Okay, then why have I -never- experienced this bug under IE or Netscape? I only see it under Mozilla/Firefox.
If it works in IE, it should work in Firefox.
I've also been seeing a new one pop up lately.
Bug One
Bug Two
1-2 years worth of pictures from a high quality digital camera. Figure a couple thousand photos at over 1MB each...

Its not out in the US yet.

Duron was pretty close to 'Celeron' in name.
However, it's also pretty buggy, and Microsoft might have already sneaked in a pay subscription service
Bastards. How dare they! They're in the software business after all.
