Can you imagine the tape backups for this? We'd have tapes the size of suitcases, and a backup run taking days instead of hours.
Or maybe in the dim and distant future we'll all have raided systems.
We're going to end up with 'wired weathermen' probably.
Maybe even those little wooden boxes with a wind-speed measurer on them attached to every router in the world.:-)
It's an encryption unit. It encrypts stuff. So what?! They probably change these things now and then anyway for security reasons, plus I would imagine all the craft use different keys and encryption etc. Then again, the Nazis using Enigma used keys like 'Hitler' - nothing like being too cryptic.
The thing that gets me the most though, is the fact that people are selling parts on eBay. It had to happen I suppose, but its just what I would see as being incredibly sick. Are people really that much of a slave to the mighty Dollar that they must do that? Totally sick.
I only skim-read it, and managed to pick up on the fact that the Sun bosses were pointing out problems. It seems to be more of a 'this is wrong, so get on and fix it, its making us look dumb' kind of thing. And I thought I was always mis-reading things.
I donated an old full-length year-dot SCSI card to a friend once, and some other stuff, IO cards and things, and he ripped them to bits and used them in a sculpture thing he did. It was a head with a hole in it, meant to reference The Borg. Looked pretty damn good too.
This looks like it could be pretty good. It'd stop the pirates at the concerts, although some bands actually aprove of such things, as long as its well done.
Either way, it'll all end up as MP3s, which is kind of ironic i think.
Of course its good! Its British!
On a more serious note, RISCOS is actually pretty good. Its sitting on the inside of a lot of Pace STBs, as Acorn figured out how to do decent onscreen graphics on low-end TVs. The software wound up in Pace boxes as a result.
Plus, how many 32-bit, multitasking graphical, multimedia OSes run out of ROM these days?
Here we go again! Yet another base compound which was poorly made, put into a product, sold to others, put in their products, sold to OEMs, built into PCs, bursting and leaking, in the house Jack built.
In this instance, instead of having one big company to point the finger at, we've got loads of little ones all over Asia.
Fun!
So far, this is just to prove a point. Its what comes from this that could be useful. I forsee a lot of the technology from this ending up in WINE for one reason or another.
As a standalone piece of software though, its not a lot of use.
I thought that. Bugger up the original card, and you then have to go buy a replacement - so you either pay twice and end up with 1 working card, or pay even more the second time, get the performance you wanted from the mod, but for much more than the face price.
Modding like this is a bit over the top. There's being economical, and then there's just being plain tight.
So realistically, you could say, as Microsoft, Sun, Disney, BT, whoever own those names as trademarks, that by default they have some claim to domains of that name the world over.
Its all a bit boggling really.
Thinking about it, we're only renting domains. We pay for a term of usage for the domain, say 2, 4, 10 or 100 years. I consider myself the 'owner' of my domain though. Its mine, I paid for it, I can do what I want with it.
I do really hope something can be done about the most persistant of spammers - how many penis extensions have I been offered now? The stuff that comes through the letter box annoys me much less, but its essentially the same thing.
Maybe public floggings by all those affected by Spam should be inflicted on those who send this stuff out.
God I hate this stuff.
I'm not the only one who thinks this way then!
Its a lawsuit in a tar.gz really though. Microsoft will have them over a barrell for something.
As an aside, who won the Apple/Microsoft case way back when they were fighting over MS nicking the GUI?

Don't get me wrong, I like Redhat - its my current distro of choice, but its the way redhat are taking elements - say for example Gnome and KDE - and moulding them both into the same thing, when they aren't. Yeah, they're both Window managers, but they do it differently.

I've noticed Redhat is getting too Microsofty for my likings. Linux was all about doing its own thing, going its own way. Redhat just seem hell-bent on making it as much like Windows, and just sliding it in beside them.
Be interested to see what the latest build can bring.

You know, I read that and thought 'HE made a skirt?' Cross-dressing and computers just don't mix.

He really was recycling stuff in this case.

If only they would do that!
I submitted this one too. Oh well!
I aim to make people laugh until coke comes out of their noses. I think I manage this most the time.
Is it just me, or has their site ALREADY fallen over?

Be my, be my, be my, be my, be my Yoko Ono whoah woah woahh. :-D
just because we're free, don't mean we'll do anything ;-)

Ditto to that. Its a damn good price, especially for 1.5mb. Ahh.. I bet the upload speed is lame ;)
