I agree that the PS2 controller feels right and is designed with a simple and Usable button layout. IMO its the best controller you can get for any console...
However, i've replaced my controller 3 times, it just can't handle the stress of being thrown at the wall for the umpteenth time because i've done the same scene in Stuntman more times than i can count.
to play games, give me a PS2 controller, for a stress test, i'll take the X-Box Controller, and the GC Controller is pretty sturdy in itself, but the controls just aern't ergonomical
take it from a Gamer thats been Gaming since the Atari 2600(a lifetime of gaming as i'm only 23)
I own all three consoles and bought all of them on their Launch date, i find that the PS2 has given me 2-3 times the Bag for my buck than both the X-Box and GC combined
and most of that is thanks to 3 of the hundreds of games out there (Gran Turismo 3, GTA:3, GTA: Vice City). but even now, i usually rent 2 games/week and they're usually PS2 games because i've simply played everything on X-Box or GC that looked interesting. though, i Am looking forward to Fable, that might hold me over until GT4 and GTA: San Andreas come out
as a guy in the 18-34 bracket, i barely make enough money to pay for my internet connection, my, so-called, disposable income barely ammounts to Chocolate bar money due to half a dozen bills and my half pack a day smoking habit.
not only do i not have the time to watch TV, i don't have the money to pay for it either, and nothing on TV is worth quitting smoking for anyways. the last time i watched TV it was an episode of the Simpsons and within the first 10 minutes i was getting bored, looking around, and trying to figure out what else to do. i just can't stand anything thats not interactive anymore.
as a Hardcore gamer i'll say this, while i have a PS1 and a PS2, i don't have my PS1 connected, its sitting in the original box in my basement as i don't need it (but still refuse to sell it).
just like i have some-odd hundreds of old Genesis, SNES, and NES games that rather than keeping the old systems out, i just emulate them on my X-Box.
even hardcore gamers don't want a living room litered with 2 dozen gaming systems, and its nice to have the ability to turn one on without re-connecting everything or having a dozen powerbars(which happens to be a fire-hazard)
i love my old games, but i'd rather have the capablility to play them on my newer hardware than be swimming in old hardware.
every source i've seen about this game says its in DVD Format, DVD Format isn't exclusive to the PS2.
as a matter of fact if i can't play this on my DVD Player which is hooked up to my 53" Flatscreen (read: My Dads 53" Flatscreen) i will be pissed and will Boycott any future Movie attempt by Square.
i may have a PS2, but that doesn't mean i want to move it everytime i want to watch this movie on the Bigscreen
the PSP is scheduled to launch in 2005 alongside the PS3 from what i understand, what exactly is the point of having any sort of Connectivity with the PS2 if it will probably never get used? i sure hope they plan on it connecting to the PS3 or they'll have a feature that will never be used except by the very few companies that will still make games for the PS2.
by that time all the really good titles will already have been announced for PS3.
as far as i'm concerned, all gaming systems are worthy of at least being tried, any Hardcore gamer would agree that even the worst designed systems can have some of the best quality games, the problem is when joe blow spends his $150-$200 on a system that has his type of games on it, he often falls for the propaganda behind the system and beleives the system he picked is the best. when i bought my PS2 i became a PS2 fanboy, then i bought an X-Box cheap and started realiseing that in some areas the X-Box does exceed the PS2(other than the obvious graphic capability), but in other ares the PS2 exceeds the X-Box. i made the same discovery when i bought my CG and since then started to understand that if you depend on one system you miss out on the offerings of other systems.
now, granted some people can only afford one system and my only advice to them is to buy the system that has a game selection closest to what you enjoy (ie. GC - fun fantasy style games with a some serious gameplay elements, X-Box - Sports gamer heaven and a desent selection of more Adult-aimed games, PS2 - RPGs and racing games primarily, but its a very well rounded in terms of your selection, mostly sue to its Third Party Support)
from where i sit, there is no best or worst game system. its too bad there are few people that have come to this realisation. in the console war, the only winners are the gamers themselves
P.S. sorry if i went off topic a bit, i'm in a bit of a rant mood

why is this modded funny? it should be informative because its true
you may have unlimited bandwidth, but bandwidth applies to the Speed that Data is transfered, which means you can only use as much Bandwidth as your modem/network card can carry
Data Transfer is the ammount of Data that you can transfer (as the name implies)
That's a good one. Let me know when any country can produce nearly 1/20 of the television programs the United States can.
uh, thats not nessisarily a good thing, Television is an Excuse for Lazyness, so what your saying is that the US is the most Lazy Country on the planet...
nope, your definately not getting back to the moon
as far as i'm concerned, reading them in the published order is much better.
think of it like Star Wars, if someone whos never seen the movies goes to watch them in numerical order, by ANH they'll already know who Darth Vader is, and therfore, not be suprised in ESB when all is "revealed", chronological order doesn't always mean the right order
a couple months ago i had about a dozen people over for a week long LAN Gaming party, we where all playing via the internet because we had some other friends that couldn't make it over. by the second last day of the party my ISP (Shaw) called me saying i had "exceeded" my unlimited bandwidth limitation, apperantelly we had used 140GB upload and 280GB download in that week.
i was charged as a large bussiness account for the whole month, luckily my buddies where willing to chip in for it, but i was still choked about the whole thing.
"Many PS2s burn out under heavy use rather quickly. The laser-assemblies are cheap and just die."
quick, tell me why my launch PS2 runs perfectly fine, even though i've spent countless thousands of gaming hours on it, and i've never sent it back to sony for anything. not to mention the fact that none of my Friends have had any problems with any of their PS2s. the Problem really isn't as big as the media likes to hype it up to be
"Neither Nintendo or MS have this reputation"
i've heard just as much complaining about the X-Box's reliability as i have for the PS2. the GC is pretty solid though.
IMO, different games require different controllers.
when FF7 came out for PC, i bought it, installed it, played for 5 minutes and threw it out. Then i went and bough the PS version of it and enjoyed it. Final Fantasy was not meant to be played w/ a KB and Mouse
as well, a few weeks ago i played a PC Demo of Midnight Club 2, i walked away disgusted by the control scheme, while i loved the controls on my PS2.
at the same time, i can't stand Halo on my X-Box, and i can't stand most other FPSs because i need the feel of the Keyboard and the WASD layout. at the same time, i wouldv'e never played Goldeneye on s PC because it was a party game.
oh, and as for Patches, The X-Box's HD allows for Patching, hell, KOTOR is being patched with the same updates the PC Version is Getting. and next summer Sony is coming out with the HD for PS2, which will allow for patching.
in terms of Console V.S. PC, i'll take both and be a happy gamer
first - i don't see why my post is flamebait, its pure numbers, there are roughly 200 Million PCs worldwide and if even a 3rd of them are being used for any online gaming whatsoever, then what i'm saying is true, heck, i think Counterstrike players are numerous enough that they beat PS2s numbers by themselves
second, i do play my PS2 and X-Box online, and i do enjoy it, but that doesn't mean that PS2 is number 1, it just means its the best of the consoles. but playing a console online is a completely different experience than playing a PC online.
PS2 - 20 Million users
X-Box - 7 Million
PC - you do the counting, its simply too high
i love my PS2 and i love my X-Box, but lets face it, neither of them are even close competitors to the online gaming giant that is the PC, every Genre is covered in many different ways and has many millions of users and all times of the day or night
AND, with a CP, games that are meant for single player, can be modded for Multiplayer (ie. GTA3 & GTA: VC)
regardless or whether or not we, as a community, are for or against the computer giant, the fact that a multi-billion dollar Computer company is in favor of the idea of Supporting Linux on the Desktop is a definate plus for the Linux Community.
other companies that follow the "do what IBM say" ideal are now more prone to switching to Linux, developers who at one time shunned Linux will now be more open to the idea of Developing for it.
this won't all happen overnight, but having IBM give the "thumbs up" to Linux is definately a big step forward for the Open Source Community.
and who know, they might be willing to fight SCO for us
actually, being that the screen is a 4" screen, theat unit would be quite big, and solid, i bet you could drop that thing from a floor up onto concrete and it'll still keep on lickin'
then again, as concepts go, we won't know till its out, or at least until a Prototype model is released
and how, exactly, would this make it come out any sooner? i'm not against having FF go to X-Box, but think about it, the PS2's hardware is light years in difference from the X-Box's Hardware. your telling them to code it for X-Box? why, so it can be delayed another 6 months?
besides, haw can they be shooting themselves in the foot for pursuing a 50+ Million userbase as opposed to a 1+ Million userbase as the case may be. maybe look for FFXIII on X-box 2, but i have my own theories on who will have the upper hand in the next Console war anyways.
i'd have to say that the only physical injury i've ever sustained through gaming would be getting hit by a car
seriously, after work on a Friday i started playing Gran Turismo 3 and decided i was gonna get 100% by the end of the weekend, thus requiring that i not sleep... at all. Sadly, i only made it to about 75%, but while walking to work Monday morning i kinda passed out and walked onto the street, its a good thing the driver slowed down cuz it only knocked me off my feet and gave me a slight concussion from my head hitting the pavement, plus i got 3 payed days off work.
but nonetheless, the injury was Gaming related in a way
However, i've replaced my controller 3 times, it just can't handle the stress of being thrown at the wall for the umpteenth time because i've done the same scene in Stuntman more times than i can count.

i know its a bit off-topic but i figured i'd clear that up a bit before people start assuming that Obsibian is making Fallout 3
what a better company to go with, if Bioware wants the job i hope that Interplay gives it to them
