    kinda funny and embarassing to admit that I'm in the same shoes -- I paid for satellite service pretty much only for battlestar galactica.
    I'm a HUGE fan of Battlestar. You'll be very disappointed to know how they plan on scheduling the remaining episodes of season 2.5. In Feb they are putting almost 11 months off before the final 2 (which ends New Years eve). That means from episode 2x01 to 2x10 is almost an 18 month stretch. I'm so disgusted (especially since it recently made #1)

    suggested mode of action as the sugar attracting red ants (which presumably feed on the local insect life and not the plants).

    If you mean the same red ants we used to have in TX many years ago, they feed on plants (possibly more). They're pretty much an endangered species around here now that the fireants moved in.

    I remember picking cans up off the side of the highways when I was a kid and making a pretty good amount of $$ (for a kid anyway) selling it to recycling plants. These days you don't see many of those recycling stations around and the city wants you to pay $5 extra per month to sort thru your own trash and put it in recycling bins for pickup at the curb. I would have done it if they just supplied the bins for free.

    I agree. And I'd also like to see people who mod up the off-topic spam talking about these "merits" lose their mod points so I can filter it out. A story about galactic shift having +5 insightful "so-and-so is a troll" comments is stupid.

    I don't think any of the above based on sunrise/sunset would be correct except twice a year around equinox. At best it would still be a few seconds off and for half the year it would be > 24 hours/one rotation.

    I know that. They are selling it as 2.0 and didn't even show reruns after the first 10 airings. Other shows like 'Lost' got 25 in the first season. Battlestar got 13.

    I love this show. Battlestar is the only show in the last 10 years I have watched every episode of. It was disappointing to see mini-series + 13 episodes being season 1 then only getting 10 more for season 2.0. I really hope they get some budgeting to do more episodes now.

    It doesn't work with my bank web site either. Several other sites are completely misaligned with it. I love the idea of Firefox, but it won't help as long as web developers keep coding for IE only browsers. ActiveX controlled web client apps are a huge example of this. I'd love to be able to get some internal web clients to work in Linux with Firefox (TestDirector if anyone knows how).

    I can tolerate that much more than I can rap music. I miss when MTV was nothing but rock videos. Now we have a channel for nothing but rap music and one with nothing but reality shows and rap music.

    I'm starting to think that Microsoft has a pre-set budget for these kind of expenses.
    Every large company does. Many are even self-insured because it is cheaper to set aside the same amount of funds and just pay out huge sums of cash (not to mention revenue from outgoing lawsuits). I can't name names but I know this for a fact.
    Also, I'm starting to feel sorry for Microsoft. Partially because they didnt steer to avoid this kind of trouble.
    If it wasn't 32M for media player and IM it would have been something else. Some of the anti-Microsoft people won't be happy until Windows is nothing more than a Window manager like KDE. Then again....KDE and Gnome come with media players and GAIM so they better watch out....

    Why is it considered wrong to stereotype and degrade anyone except Southern Americans? You pick any race or geographic group of people and say anything wrong about them and half of Slashdot will be clamoring for your head, but not in this case.

    Oh don't fret. They're just damn yankees. We could always outsource to WisCAWWNsin (don't cha know?) or the Bronx where they can "breaka your face if you call our company again". Then there is always the California dudes with all the fun earthquakes. Florida would work if you want to hire people above retirement age and like 200mph wind storms. New York is great to outsource for collection agencies since they're already warmed up to scream at people by 8am. You also have Colorado but they're still on a Rocky Mountain high (damn druggies). We could use Illinois...but then again....Illinois just sucks unless you like flat land with 3 sided tree formations facing east for topology.

    Iran doesn't want a US sense of morality pushed down their throats any more than US citizens would want an Iranian one pushed down theirs.
    You wouldn't want nuclear fallout from Iran any more than the US would.

    You misquoted or misunderstood. It's about supporting our troops overseas and not treating them like post-war Vietnam. Telling these people (in front of the whole world) that what they are doing is wrong while they're over there risking death is in very bad taste. Think forward and don't rely on hind-sight so much. What would you do (other than just Bush-bash like you are now)?

    If you just sit around in your own corner of the world sending ever bigger telescopes into space doing science, you're unlikely to have any islamic lunatics trying to kill you with suicide bombs and bioweapons. They aren't interested in an invasion and aren't going to set about killing themselves to try and hurt you without any sort of a reason.

    You are waaaay off topic here but I'll reply to the new topic you started. That is exactly the thinking Clinton used while we were attacked 8 times by terrorists and the hijackers from 9/11 were training to attack for 6 years under his nose. They aren't after us because we're in Iraq or Afghanistan. They're after a way of life that opposes their radical belief. You can't ignore terrorism and hope it goes away.
