  1. Just what Fusion I/O needed... on Micron Demos SSD With 1GB/sec Throughput · · Score: 1

...some competition! Seriously, I think they'll be better off. There's probably too many nervous nellies out there unwilling to dive into non-SAS/SATA/FC storage with a newcomer like Fusion I/O.

BTW, WTF is up with "The second generation of PCIe is expected out next year ..."? It's been out for a while now, I've seen motherboards, GPUs, and IB HCAs that support gen2.

I'm 29 (and a parent). It doesn't seem wrong to me at all.
I simply don't look at her as my daughter. She's only that biologically as far as I'm concerned. I'm disgusted that she still runs to me, smiles, and says "Daddy!"

No, it's just bad policy. Fear not, the school will undoubtedly backpedal big time. They've gotten themselves into a bunch of stupid messes lately (nickname, e.g.) Last I heard, the dental school was the only official body to weigh in on the suspension, and the issue was going to be appealed to the next level up. This decision was probably made among 5 dental school teachers/administrators, all trying to spare the feelings of some crybaby professor.

  10. What about openfiler? on The Yellow Machine in Review · · Score: 1
The major issue is pricing; the 1 TB is about $1300. Now, for the DIY crowd, yes, using Linux you could very easily put together a RAID 5, 1 TB machine for not that much more -- and you are probably going to do it anyway. But for the target market, especially situations in which the IT resources are limited, it's a great machine for the ease of setting it up.
How about Openfiler? Not quite DIY, probably a decent compromise.
And since it supports doing automated back-ups as well as has the serial port to work with a UPS system, you don't have to worry about the whole crapping out and losing all of your data. All in all, a great unit. Price is a concern, but a minor one.
Openfiler also supports checkpointing. Price is almost never a "minor" concern.
