  1. There is a class of problems for which functional languages are optimal. But it doesn't hold most problems. If you allow local state then you can do parallelism by message passing, and expand the range of problems tremendously without adding significant complexity. But no language appears to do this

Smalltalk might make you happy, check it out. It's not like C++.

Yes I do haha. You don't like Trump, so you compare him to Hitler. You compare him to Hitler, because that's all you know. You have no perspective, because you don't know history. In the end, you make dumb comparisons and silly conclusions. Learn history. Get some books (or podcasts), they're better than TV.

Why is Trump so different than Bush or all the other presidents who were compared to Hitler? You can't answer. I don't like Trump, and will not vote for him, but he's not Hitler.

Except they amplify sounds in some situations.

  9. Earplugs have a NRR of around 30 decibels (or less, of course). Ear muffs have NRR of around 30 decibels (or less of course). In my experience, they're basically the same. If you wear them both, you don't get a 60 decibel NRR though, because at that point, bone conduction starts transferring a lot of (relative) energy to your ear drum.

Get earplugs. These are comfortable, blend in so people don't notice you are wearing them, block some sound, but you can still hear conversations through them (and when the kids go to bed, you can take them out). I like my nephews but these earplugs save my sanity.

  11. Except it also boosts the sound of quiet things, so you can hear far away.

I'm no expert on the history of demagogues

You're better off saying that you don't really know enough to comment based on history, because you don't. (There are parallels between Hitler and every president, including Roosevelt. But none of them ended up being Hitler).

Instead, say, "These are things that Trump does that I don't like, and he shouldn't be president because of them." That will give you a more powerful argument, and more accurate point, and won't cause people to roll their eyes.

Scott Adams' apologia for Trump is reminiscent of what was said about Germany in the run-up to WWII.

If you can't look back in history and find an example that doesn't involve Nazis, then you don't know much about history.
Godwin's law exists to identify people who don't know much about history. Find a better example to make your point.

We do have "loser pays" in a lot of civil court cases in America (I don't know all the details, it's complicated). There are lots of details that can still help you avoid court costs, though. For example, the person who sues can withdraw the case any time before trial, with no recourse for the defendant. So if you've hired a lawyer, you're still out legal fees.

And I'd be willing to bet the Australian court system has similar problems; but weirdos haven't figured out how to abuse them yet.
