Next arm yourself with a woman of renown to teach object orientation, namely Alice, she will amase you and your teens. Lastly, once they have the basics down after the new year, get them up and running Code Rally and the winner of the Grand Prix gets extra points towards that grade!!

None taken, and it is an interesting thought at that. But I guess I would counter that it is still a passive action. Few people, ok, some guys I know, go out of thier way and actively plan on thier next bowel movement and where they are going to leave it. ;) Seriously though - even using the lav you are not shedding cells with a "I could care a less, here have some white blood cells" attitude. To my mind it is still the credit card in the lost wallet. Had I the choice I would drop no genetic material. As I do not have that choice it doesn't give anyone the right to dig into that which I shed do to nature itself.

From a practical standpoint this is like anything else that you discard, it doesn't belong to you any more.
Hmmm...let us discuss the difference between "discard" and "lose". If I walk past a trash can pull out my wallet and it's $50 in cash and toss it in I have "discarded" it and I agree, have at, you just made $50. If however it falls from my pocket, I have "lost" it, and you have no right to anything in it. Even if I "discard" my wallet with my cash card on it with the PIN painted on in it with glitter paint, you still have no legal access to my account, the bank would still consider the card "lost". I can think of no cell that I have ever actively discarded, and even if I had in someway (actively got a hair cut) I still would have "lost" the hair follicle that went with that voluntary hair cut. IMHO to "discard" genetic material is actually very hard to do, and would require purposeful action, not passive flaking, drooling, sweating, etc.

Me: Hey, um, did you drink from that faucet over there?

Me: Well we do, I am afraid you have 2 days at the most and it will be very painfull at the end.
You: Jesus! How the hell does this happen?
Me: Well, truth is, we voted out the "nanny" State ages ago, and it is not poisonous for the people that work here, sorry
You: I am going to sue you bastards into next week!!
Me: Good luck, there is a $100k cap now
Me: By the way - there is an antidote.
You: Holy crap - where is it - give it to me
Me: Well, here is the thing - it is well, um, 1 Million dollars, cash. But of course you dont have to buy it
You: I dont have that kind of money
Me: You can make payments - we finance
    (And in your world)
You: Screw You ... I dont need massive government regulating you, I can fix it myself
Me: Well, enjoy the last 3 hours of your 48 left

Truth is that health care is very much a government thing. you would do *ANYTHING* to get that drug - anything. It needs to have the big hand of government to step in to be on your side.

The government should be about the public good - that is a liberal idea. I admit, the "public good" has run amok lately - but I would rather have "PC" language socially forced on me (liberal Democrat) than "PC" language forced on me through law (Neo-Con)

It is a damn shame that education has boiled down to money. I would love to see "free" universities, where people who love a subject give classes. How many 60ish year old retired engineers are there that would love to teach math part time, just because they love it?
IWAACC (I Work At A Community College) and I can answer this question about 60ish Math instructors.

    Ahem

None, exactly, and I didnt use a calculator either.

Even at current pay rates (ours are lower - by law even the Superintendents of school districts cant make more than the Governor - $120311) we have a tough time attracting quality faculty as it stands. So to paraphrase your question -

How many 60ish year old retired engineers are there that would love to teach math part time, listen to whiney 18/19 year olds, deal with adult learners that are holding down a full course load, full time job, 3 kids and a house, deal with grade inflation, Deans, working anywhere from 8am to 10pm (sometimes all in one day), create lesson plans and at the end of the day grade papers, tests, and projects?

IMHO teaching is still a thankless task, even with good pay. The amount of plagerism, lying, cheating and unpreparedness I have seen is appalling to say the least, and I am a coder for the college, not an instructor. Most of our students wouldn't take the power to fix things if you gave it to them on a silver platter anyway, they seem to want the "Hey, I plunked down my cash (loan) where is my "A"/Credits/Degree?" model these days.

And though I also hate the branding/sole dealer thing going on (the U of MN sold off naming rights to it's new Stadium - blech), especially when it reaches down into K-12 the reality is that schools are being asked to do more and more with less and less. At my level, we have been hit with 10% budget cuts from the State for 2 years, while our student population has grown by 9 and 8 percent each year. I can see where schools are feeling the pinch and want to generate revenue from something other than tuition.

Where are you that they are paying out that kind of cash to CC instructors?
