    Dell can charge what they want for it. Why would they not charge for installing it right? They should. GPL does not mean can't be charged for. It means can't steal. (duh)

    That is insane. What if you are running a cad program and support only covers certain OS'es? I can just see the aerospace industry grinding to a halt over vista. Yeah right.

    I just did a compaq presario laptop dual boot (amdxp3000) and it went fine except for the broadcom wireless, which probably would work if I had more time with it. wrappers didn't do anything for me.

    I like countries with slow steady governments--no news is good news. Ones not ashamed to say sorry once in a while. Not ones that have so many laws they can't even be read... and they ask my country to make more laws too. Go away, eh. We were fine before cable TV.

    hmmm. I plug a PC into my widescreen sometimes. Let me say that 1360x768 @32" is really nice. A tv with a proper scaler is a must though. Shoot, with this one, I can watch youtube at 640x480 and zoom it full screen (not youtubes lame fullscreen full of artifacts)

    No want old style tv's anymore!!!

    That said, soon after I got a C64 I needed glasses. I purposely didn't go into Comp Sci because I thought all computers would give you 20 FPS headaches. Elite was a good game.

    If autocad had a brain, they would port over to linux, and put out a distro. Then they can quit having to worry about os changes. Every time windows stops a designer from designing is costs to much time and money to accept.

    Their numbers still add up but the PR dept doesn't have to work so hard.


    But wait, they still get 150,000 calls from that group either way. What they now in fact have is 50,000 stupid pirates who think they fooled microsoft, logging in to the Update Windows shortcut. That is the point being missed, the honeypot being set up. Hehe.

    Dear Sweden:

    Don't use the American's help. They will have you using shock gernades on people with keyboards and mice. Also any agreements that you sign are actually legal tricks. You might think it is just a disclaimer or something, but that is only because a US federal lawyer made it look innocent. Before you know it, you will be sorry. Take it from Canada and Mexico. Do engage the US! I know they are persistsant. That is how they spread. Just keep ignoring them until they move on.

    Hmmm. If windows is so safe, how come a hair salon computer I setup 2 years ago is now back on my work bench with bios viruses? Both the mobo and hardrive are infected as far as I can tell. I did this: unplug hardrive and boot. Now the bios is locked (frozen and won't do anything but show the boot image). I imagine this will not be easy to fix. IF ONLY I HAD linuxed them up like I did his other computers. Oh well.

    Well, I'm finally bored of the warcraft3 demo map. Last night alone It lets you play 1 on 1 against another person. How long has that map been out? Thanks Blizzard! You've given me years of free linux (wine) gaming. Now I've finally paid for it... got the expansion and strat guide too.

    sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop

    and then log back in and set your session to xfce.

    I'm running it on a 128 meg imac with a 333 MHz G3. It ran like molasses with ubuntu. It runs fast now and I no longer want more ram.

    Why would government people need to be dragging this stuff home on their laptops anyway?

    This is not an IT question but a human one. You may as well ask:

    Why would employees export files out of the database and copy them to their laptop rather than deal with the a network database managed by a phone desk IT department. Or, rather than deal with using a mainframe and a dumb terminal in the office and not using a laptop.

    Yes they are just avoiding the IT department as much as possible. Haha. Just like in every organization, it needs to be broken up and distributed or something.

    Thanks, hopefully I won't hear from him about it for 5 years like the win98 install I did for him. Amazing. Motherboard finally failed and he said it was hacked and running slow though.

    My particular wife can't tell the diff between firefox and thunderbird on windows or linux. Hint, hint. Dual boot the family pc, but set the default boot to windows. Then when it gets hacked, change the default boot to ubuntu. Then take your sweet time... If they are real gamers, they will fix windows themselves. If they don't, they will learn to use linux.

    Just download an Ubuntu livecd (I would recommend 6.06, not 6.10)

    That is the 2nd comment like that I see here. What is up with 6.10? I have 6.06 personally, but I just did a laptop for a friend (dual boot) with 6.10 and it was fine. I would love to know what dis-service I did my friend though.
