Sure would be nice if someone would utilize the security feature on the Itanium 2 chip to write an OS that would be truly secure. Oh... Someone has.
Repeat after me. Windows and Linux, for that matter, are insecure because they only run at PL0 and PL3 of the processor. Utilizing all 4 PLs would provide better security. Fortunately, the company I'm at now has done so. Since we have the best brains in the Itanium 2 industry writing the OS, security is just an alpha away (which should be soon).
Let see... Pong, Space Invaders, Asteroids, Pac-Man, Flight Simulator and a smattering of other simulators, Castle Wolfenstein 3-D. I haven't seen any truly innovative games in the last 10 years. I've seen innovative enhancements, like network and effects, but nothing to make me drool with desire.
Doom, Quake, Half-life, TombRaider, et.al. are fun and they are fun to look at, but there isn't really any innovation other than better effects. Half-life had a good story line too.
There haven't been too many moves into a more cerebral genre. What I find mostly annoying is that some of the most popular games are maze games (Doom, Quake, CounterStrike, Metroid Prime, driving games, et.al.). It would be nice to move away from those.
Part of the problem is that you can scan any portion of memory with Windows or Linux. If you can scan any part of memory, you can find keys and such that will allow you access. And since both are 'general purpose' they are only using Privilege Level 0 and PL 3 of the processor. Probably would help if they would write it to use PL 1 and PL 2 too. But that would be a major rewrite.
What you'd need to do is to build a new OS from the ground up which would take privilege levels into account and prevent memory scans from the get go. Then you'd have to sell it to some 3-letter agencies and get them to use it.
Fortunately, the company I am currently working for is doing just that. You can read about it shortly (I hope). In fact, I'm sure that some of you who have read the Register have heard about us.
This stupid idea of who created God leads us to the idea that either God has always been or God was created by another God.
If God always existed, what did God do for the infinite period prior to creating the Earth (or the first thing)? What change in that infinite doldrum caused God to decide to create the Earth (or the first thing)? What will God do for the infinite amount of time after the Earth ceases to exist?
Which leads to, if God created another Earth and it didn't succeed, that would make a failure by God. That makes God imperfect, therefore God cannot exist if God is not perfect.
Which leads to, if God did nothing and nothing lead to the eventual creation of the Earth, that makes God imperfect because the perfection of nothing wasn't perfect enough, therefore God cannot exist if God is not perfect.
Of course, putting human characteristics to God (God created man in his own image), floating around in nothing for more that a few hours can lead to severe insanity due to sensory depravation, which makes God imperfect because insanity would be an imperfection.
If another God created God, that would make God imperfect because God had to be created in the first place and make the creating God imperfect because that God would have had to create something which then leads to God and infinity.
Of course, there's that magic thing too, but I won't worry about that.
As a pseudo-scientist, I ask anyone to think the thought of God and infinity because it just doesn't work out in any way.
There are some left-wing nuts that do not support the war and do not want to see us keep our freedom.
Can you name any of these "left-wing nuts" that do not support the war and wish to take away your freedom? Can you name any "right-wing nuts" that don't wish to take away your freedom?
Seriously, our only goal in this country is to become wealthy. Not everyone will be wealthy and it's wrong to believe that you, as an individual, will ever be wealthy. If you look at most of the laws passed over the past 20 years, most of them are money drive, from the DMCA and the Sonny Bono Copyright Extension Act, to the most recent FCC censorship passed just the other day (Yes, I know Clinton signed the copyright bills).
Capitalism does not lead to freedom. For a good example, look at the FOSS/Proprietary issue.
Freedom to me is layed out in the Constitution as the architects of the document framed it. Not what we are trying to do today by controlling every aspect of life from speech to search/seizure and non-incrimination.
Maybe our form of government will not work over time because it leads to extremism. Maybe Michael Moore's movie is extreme, but the media has been extreme on the opposite for the last 3 1/2 years and, frankly, I'm sick of it.
The only method would be to build a flume and a waterwheel. Start the flume high up-river and then direct it to a waterwheel. That would give you enough flow to get the waterwheel turning.
Of course, I don't see why couldn't just make a waterwheel that could lift enough water to keep it turning without any additional water.
The reason it's not easier is because it's meant to do 1 thing well. That is to make publishable music. It is not at Cakewalk to do so.
Besides, there are things that I can do with Lilypond that I can't do with Encore.
Also, having a vast library of publishable quality music (namely Classical music) available would let small time orchestras get their music without having to pay rent for it.
If you read more about Lilypond, the question that is being answered is how do we define music? Do we define it by time/pitch/duration/velocity or is it more than that? It happens to be more than that, though those four variables will give a good approximation to what it should look like.
Simply put, the only thing you can do is monitor what they are doing. I have just set up email accounts for my 7 and 5 year old. I set an alias so I get a copy. I'm not invading their privacy, I'm making sure they are not getting into trouble. They have an aunt who's a nun and sends them religious articles ever now and then. I hate it, but I'm not going to censor it for them.
Also, make sure to use an IM client that has logs and keep a copy. Not only will it be interesting to go back and re-read some of the conversations (e.g. my sister having an hour long conversation with an auto-reply robot), you can see who they are talking to and question them about it.
In the future, I plan to get my kids cell phones. Seeing that I won't be able to listen in, I will get the bill and can question them about it.
The sex is always going to be there and so what. It's the people that you have to worry about.
Unfortunately, the Constitution doesn't give us the right to vote for the president. It gives us the right to vote for a representative to the House of Representatives. They, in turn, have the authority to appoint the president throught the Electoral College.
Unfortunately, even though it was legal, Dumbass is the president now.
With the Patriot Act, what if you went to the library and, for whatever reason, you checked out "The Joy of Gay Sex." The government comes along and obtains all those records. Tomorrow, homosexuality is outlawed and homosexuals are rounded up. How would you defend yourself?
I understand that they are in the business to make money. Just because I think it's just a stupid marketing ploy to get people to join the RHN for $60.00/yr (or $99 for enterprise).
If they said, to use RedHat distros, you have to pay $60.00/yr, I might end up paying the $60 per year.
I just think it's a bum marketing ploy, that's all.
They're not and I don't have to use RedHat. If I was in the mood to do it myself, I'd download everything and install it from scratch. Besides, they're selling their support so you can get your ISOs a week early.
And if RH starts charging for their distribution, I will no long use it. Plain and simple.
Nobody has to do anything they don't want to. I was just pointing out that they are charging you $60 to get ISOs a week early when you can download them or purchase them 7 days later.
It appears that you believe people to be a problem. Let's kill all of them so you can prosper in your "me, me, me" attitude, or, at least, institutionalize them until something better can be thought of.
We can feed people and nobody has the right to kill somebody else for being "different." I think your Bible says something to that effect.
Let me come to your house with my dog. I'll wait at the door and let my dog leave a couple of [pf]iles for you.
That's the problem with Microsoft. They think they can connect their products back home anytime. Be like a car being remotely commandeered to go back to the shop at random intervals. Why is it any of MS business what you do with your internet (not their internet).

Once again, stupid people in search of fantasy because they can't handle reality.
Where did all the water go to?
How did Noah and family manage to get all the animals from the Western Hemisphere?
How come Noah save fleas and ticks?
How come Noah save poisonous snakes and man eating tigers?
How many Bigfoots were there on the Ark?
How large was it and for how long did they sail and if there were only 2 of each animal did any of the animals die and then did they just die out?
If we ignore science, anything is possible.
The only method would be to build a flume and a waterwheel. Start the flume high up-river and then direct it to a waterwheel. That would give you enough flow to get the waterwheel turning.

I'm running Linux and it worked just fine on Moz 1.6a. Make sure that libflashplayer.so is in the mozilla/plugins directory.
If you are on Windows and Mozilla doesn't work, try the browser that comes with the OS. It works when there's a tight spot.

Sounds like a scam to get more people to register with RHN just so you can be the first on the block to have RH 9.
Debian is starting to look better every day.
It appears that you believe people to be a problem. Let's kill all of them so you can prosper in your "me, me, me" attitude, or, at least, institutionalize them until something better can be thought of.
