Is an industry that is still small enough that I think it thrives off of cooperation and team work, rather then the type of cut throat competition you more commonly find in other industries.

For this reason, I have personally refused to purchase merchandise from GW. I feel that they do more to attack to the industry then they do to build it up.

Once the rpg and/or board game/miniatures industry is even close to being as big as the computer games industry...then by all means, go at each other tooth and nail. In the meantime though, many players really need their FLGS (Friendly Local Gaming Stores) in order to get the content they need, have a chance to flip through tbe book then buy it and to meet other gamers.

As long as GW and a few other companies keeps screwing over the FLGS's ... they won't get my business. And yes, I know they won't really miss one customer. But I feel better...

  14. Wi-Fi and WPA on How Much is Riding on Wi-Fi? · · Score: 2, Interesting

A good amount of the short-term success of wireless networking is largely going to depend on WPA or "Wi-Fi Protected Access". This is the new version of encryption which should hit devices this summer and will be taking over for WEP.

This method of encryption supposedly covers all of the encryption holes and exploits available for WEP, using a series of revolving encryption keys.

While wireless networking is already very popular in thousands of homes and many small businesses as well, the real money in computers is in medium and large businesses. With encryption that actually works (assuming it does), the viability of using wireless networks in almost any setting becomes real.

Is wireless networking going to take over the world? No, but it's mainstream now and it's not going away for a long time, which is fine by me. I'm a Senior Wireless Networking Technician at Dell, job security = good.

Sounds like an environmental problem to me. Plants, Aquariums, 2.4gHz cordless phones, long range cell phones, baby monitor's, microwaves, stucco walls, concrete, marble. All of these can cause some problems with wireless networking.

Instead of a $100.00 directional antenna though, you could have bought a $70.00 wireless access point to bridge your wireless network. Or found a way to move your router to a more central location. Also try to keep it at least 3 feet away from a wall and as high in the room as possible.

Maybe they just expended the effort to please the Geeks of the world, but I seriously doubt that the number of people who refuse to use an M$ operating system make up enough people to warrant them writing a different version of the game for financial reasons.

Furthermore, I think those of you who refuse to run an M$ Operating System should stop your whining and complains when a game producer does not expend the effort to write you and your few friends a different copy of the game.

I could care less what your issues are with Microsoft, but if you want to play the newest games and play them when they release...either give up that dream, or save game developers, programmers and the rest of the world from your pleading complaints and capitulate to using Windows on one of your computers.

Maybe there is some of the Short, Victorious War thinking that lead to our current situation. Perhaps the politics of succeeding where his father had failed was motivation enough to lead a country to this point.

But I don't care, do you know why? Because the Son of a Bitch has it coming. I long ago gave up needing a reason to feel that Saddam Hussein had to be "removed" from the world scope.
