um.. blueray? Other than that, i can't think of one. UMD was crap because nobody could use it. Memory sticks were pricey when they first came out but usually adapters could be found for loading content onto it.
A media pc isn't viable because you can't watch sports on it (doubtful) and you'd only save (at worst) 5$ a month? I'll bet you that 5$ doesn't include a sports package and dvr.
Linking to your site's rants isn't helping. It takes A vs B and only lists cons for the one you don't like. Wouldn't you say there are many things you could access on your media_pc+tv that would be impossible with the best cable tv plan? Each platform has exclusive content. Saying that because there is something cable has that the internet doesn't means a media pc isn't viable is a bad argument. Nobody is saying cable is not worth having. People are saying there are alternatives to it.
You agree with my points and then throw in exceptions or scenarios that argue against things i never said. A lot of pc games don't allow multiple controllers? A lot of console games don't allow multiple controllers too. Typically, pc multiplayer is via network and console is locally non-networked. Both have pros and cons. Both have exceptions too. If you only enjoy playing multiplayer games locally with 2-4 people and sharing a screen, then console is obviously what you'd want. If you prefer to multiplay without inviting friends over and screen sharing then pc is probably what you want. Or hell, have both, that would be optimal.
A pc can't replace a console for in-house gameplay and a console can't replace the versatility of a pc.
You don't need an adapter, it's hdmi->hdmi and the cable can be found at any store that sells TVs. But if the computer isn't in the same room as the TV, it simply isn't doable. The computer needs to be a reasonable distance away from the TV.
You don't have to move the computer, just use the tv as a second monitor via hdmi. As far as controllers, almost all of them are usb these days. So you're limited to the number of usb ports available. Now the TV can stream anything you can access online, might as well cancel cable and save the money. Even at 50$ per month savings, you could build (or upgrade?) a pc in six months.
There is another side and for a legit reason. The discussion isn't about climate change.. it's about if mankind is causing it. The earth was not always this temperature. It goes through cycles of warming and cooling. You've heard of ice ages, right? Read this: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/earth/cause-ice-age.html
I find it interesting how you say the occupy movement has no goals and then you say they want a people's republic. Picking out a sub-group's goals and expanding them to occlude the rest of the group is greatly oversimplifying.
You are certainly right that from the beginning the tea party was better organized and comprised mostly of older people. But i will argue that comparing occupy to tea party is going off on a tangent. Because group B is better organized than Group A doesn't mean that A doesn't have a point or reason to exist.
I was simply pointing out that you can't lump all of occupy under a hippie, college student, or unemployed banner. They are a very diverse group. Their reasons for being there are also diverse. Occupy appears to be on the opposite end of the spectrum from the tea party. Where tea party people need to be home before 9:30, the occupy people never leave. It is easy to see how a tea party person would call occupy hippies and how occupy calls tea party aged yuppies.
btw, i consider both movements to be a great thing. I just wish there was better mainstream coverage. Youtube seems to be the best place to find video's for them.
Is joining a political movement not something productive?
You obviously don't approve of any of the occupy groups. Your disapproval has prevented you from further understanding that it is not one cohesive organization with a hierarchy and goals. It is an umbrella that many people have come to stand under for all sorts of reasons. Many of the occupy people have jobs and lives too. It's great that so many people are voicing their opinions and turning out for occupy events.. legally or otherwise. I remember so many people (usually older people) bitching about the apathy of this generation. Well, they seem to be waking up and fighting for something. Instead of looking down on them, perhaps you could realize they are pretty new at this.. they probably won't get it right the first time.
I think you have put more effort into demonizing them than analyzing them.
You may find it interesting that i have been installing (and reinstalling) steam games for almost a decade now:)
You also have to pay with CC for any online purchase. If you don't like that situation, you can use pre-paid cards and only reload them with your gaming budget for each month. PII is used for billing and to identify and authenticate you as the owner of your games (so random people can't claim your game keys and other bad things). Because after all, your house could burn to the ground and everything in it.. but you could reinstall all your games on a new computer the very next day.
Here is Shuttleworth's blog talking about Ubuntu on tablets.. he wants to add tablets, not move to them:
By 14.04 LTS Ubuntu will power tablets, phones, TVs and smart screens from the car to the office kitchen, and it will connect those devices cleanly and seamlessly to the desktop, the server and the cloud.
Unity, the desktop interface in today’s Ubuntu 11.10, was designed with this specific vision in mind. While the interface for each form factor is shaped appropriately, Unity’s core elements are arranged in exactly the way we need to create coherence across all of those devices. This was the origin of the name Unity – a single core interface framework, that scales across all screens, and supports all toolkits. from: http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/820
You can fire someone if they have a documented pattern of failure. Also, it's very possible that they couldn't fire that guy for punching someone.. but the guy assaulted could certainly press charges.
I'm not a smoker but my bet is that most people who smoke pot would rather buy their stuff from walmart or the nearby gas-station than some guy in a hoodie standing on the corner. They'll have a company backing the product and reasonable assurances of what exactly is in the packaging. When i'm running out of beer or bagels i don't drive around town looking for someone standing on the corner.. nor do i call my "hookup" and hope s/he's available. I just go to the store.
Seriously, who would buy beer or bagels from some random guy standing on the corner just to save a dollar? I can't see pot being any different.

I did too. But right after playing a game of DOW2, blam! a message from Gabe.
I've never used it but usually for servers you would use the server version: http://www.ubuntu.com/business/server/overview
