    I wrote my OWN blogging scripts. I don't have to pay for features I DON'T want and don't have to pay for features I DO want. Plus, I have the satisfaction in knowing I did all the hard work.

    If you want to subject your child to years of ridicule, embarassment and humiliation by other kids - not only for your kid's name but for having a parent who was such a dumbass giving them that name.
    Kids can be extremely cruel and heartless...
    they will think that you're a dumbass (or worse) and they will let your kids know it.
    Your wife has a whole Hell of a lot more common sense than you do.
    Your kid will never forgive you and your wife better not let you talk her in to it.
    This had better be some pretty demented and twisted April Fool's Day joke.

    I second that vote.
    I love bzflag. "Battle Zone" in 3-D and with teams.
    If you search the server listing (late at night or EARLY morning), every now and then you find an unoccupied server - a perfect place to 'practice'.
    Joining a team (as oppossed to being a 'rogue') is great for 'newbies'. A common goal: blowing up tanks that are not the same color as you.
    When I first started playing, even the more experienced players who'd been at it a while were pretty friendly: "Welcome to the fold, dude" kind of attitude.

    Of course there's always the occasional dickhead, but there are ways to keep them off the playing fields.

    When I had a cell phone (haven't had one for 2 years, and ohmygod i don't feel left out or uncool), I used the most annoying, sick sound it had on it..sounded like an off-key ( way off key) 'normal' ring tone. Hell, it might have been grating on the ears but I always knew it was my phone when it rang.

    Dude, celebrity or not, there is a guild rate for commerical and/or radio voice overs, and they're all probably getting the same $$. Microsoft probably "sponsored" their studies for about the same or more dollars ("the larger the amount of money, the more the study is in your favor", is the way it goes, I don't doubt).

    but I have to say it again..the red-eye cylons DO exist, but there are more advanced cylons that are humanoid. Different 'bots for different purposes.
    Geez, I wish /. readers would do some research before posting statements that use their ass as the source.
    But then, this IS slashdot - reading the articles and thinking independently is not a requirement.
    I am looking forward to the new mini series.
    Much like "Planet of The Apes" this is a RETELLING; an update of the original idea using modern social ideals.
    Go read the Q&A with the producer. A lot of questions and concerns are addressed.

    Did you even read the link to the email that AT&T sent out?
    "What AT&T is asking is for you to help AT&T to restrict incoming mail to just our known and trusted sources (e.g., business partners, clients and customers)....If you need assistance determining what these IP addresses are, please contact your company's administrative e-mail server support / network administration personnel." (emphasis mine).

    Excellent "case study" type material..perfect to knock the wind out of the sails of the "it can't be done" camp. You should consider doing a write up of your experience switching over. Seems it would be valuable material to give to the PHBs for reading.

    'Tis why I like the existence of FreeBSD's "burncd" for ATAPI CDRWs. I don't have to worry about SCSI emulation - it's that much more cruft that I can #comment out of my new FBSD kernel config.

    Isn't there a law in Oregon that states their phone number MUST be shown on caller ID, if they're a business? If it doesn't, you can get their info, let them know they'll be reported, etc.?

    I'm not knocking the movie itself - it's far better than anything I could do in less than 2 weeks. But to me it seemed a showcase for a bunch of don't-know-if-i'm-bi-straight-or-gay Goths that found a way to get themselves the attention they so desparately crave. Trent Reznor, Marilyn Manson or Twiggy Ramirez could've been cast and nobody would've noticed.

    The only way to get out of paying school loans is if they were grants. Federal School Loans ARE NOT dismissed in a bankruptcy proceeding. I know. Before we divorced, my ex-wife drove us to bankrupcty and we still had to pay her school loans.

    Right now Thunderbird does not support opening links in Firebird. Or any browser, for that matter. Firebird however, can have thunderbird (or any mail client of your choosing) intercept mailto: links on web pages.. MozEx.
