I wonder if this could work WITH the libraries such that they would be the central point. If someone in my area has the book I want we would agree to meet at the library for the exchange.
I would not want people coming directly to my house myself.
This seems to be a lot like meetup.com. This is an interesting concept though, and in areas where there are enough people to sign up it could even be usefull. However even with large cities like Chicago, and New York, I notice there are not many people in the different meetups. The trick is having enough people in the system to make it work well.
I for one think this is a great idea. Many people have an injury, and can not walk for awhile and then its game over for them. If I'm not mistaken this is why nobody wants a broken hip, because the hip is the least of the worries. All of the complications from it and the fact that you will be in bed and not mobile and everything.
A system like they are developing can have huge consequences, not only on the person's physical abilities, but also on their mental well being. It's no fun to live in a bed, and have to have others help you to do anything and everything except sleep.
Now if only normal people could afford such a beast...
Maybye I didn't read the article right, but with lines such as:
30-year robot project pitched and researchers in robot technology are advocating a grand project.
This does not seem like its really going to happen. There are hundreds of these plans in congress at any one time, and most are thrown out. Reminds me of the Schoolhouse Rock song, I'm Just a Bill

This is the reason why everything needs to be thought of in moderation. For a country such as China that has such a large percentage of the population using bikes then switching to bamboo makes economic and environmental sense, however in a country such as the USA where the majority of people are driving motor vehicles it's a moot point. Here in the States it would be more effective to have people switch from their SUV's to a bike, even aluminum ones. Down the road then bamboo may become more available, but until then I would be happy to see more bikes and less cars.
Now all we need is more people promoting this in schools and printing the books. Much like the IA Bookmobile. It seems like the people who could use this the most, don't even know it exists.
Is this how they are going to roll out a national database system? Saying it will help in the fight against spam and forgery? Not that I'm "totally" against such a system, but it seems like they are misrepresenting the true nature of this.
I didn't see mention of where this person lives, but if its anywhere that is hot and you need to run the AC it would probably be better to duct the exhaust outside then heating the room. Of course if this is in an arctic climate then itâ(TM)s a moot point.
The biggest problem I see is that sometimes a change is so simple it seems better to just go direct to the liver server, then all of sudden everything is down and you can't figure out what went wrong with the change.
You make a very good point. People need to choose which is best. However the problem I see is growing up with my parents 45 miles from the "big city", there is no public transportation at all. As I grew up it was just a societal thing where you take drivers-ed at school, get a part time job, buy a car, and pay the insurance. Nobody talked as if it was an option, that we had other choices. This was the only way that they talked about, everybody from peers, to parents, to administrators, to teachers, to politicians. We have a cycling club, but they just do it for fun, not for commuting or even any type of advocacy.
This is where changes can be made, in education and infrastructure. For instance when a new road is created if bike lanes would be required they would be very inexpensive.
If SCO really is correct and this does become an issue of viral GPL, then it could possibly give MS a boost. However I personally think that the companies behind open source will still be pushing it, its only the companies that are currently thinking about open source business models that this may effect. I think its just more junk propaganda though.

I for one think it's a great idea, however I don't think they should be able to patient something like that. Much like one click ordering, it's just crazy. When are they going to start patenting basic life processes like exhaling, and then expect everyone to pay fees? Much like that one drug, "the purple pill", that they patented t he substance the body makes when you ingest the pill, thereby locking out all competition.
I think this is a good point. Text based MUDs were one thing, they at least required imagination. Now though we are talking about playing a game in a 3d world, where even the characters are becoming more lifelike every weak. Human interface devices such as VR goggles and gloves for user input are making the digital transformation all the greater.

Hmmm... When are we going to be able to slap in faster processors, and more memory in our heads, or exo-devices?

Guess not, but you can buy it from ID for $15 at id Software Online
Hmm, back then I did too. I wonder if you can still find copies of it now, they should be freeware or something now.
Is this really news? I'm sure most people have come to this conclusion a long time ago.

This sounds good in theory but I would be surprised if it actually pans out to be profitable in the long run.
Interesting point, perhaps you could become a sales person for Cisco...

Now this air car certainly looks promising. To bad it may be awhile before they are being built in mass though.
