"[customer's name], what are you doing, you stupid [some expletive]? Why are you pressing the reset button on the computer?" Why he thought that was the "record" button, I'll never know...maybe I don't want to.
That would be the method which doesn't include me paying for the same song twice. And no, I don't want a subscription, I have all the songs I need on CD anyway.
"This is why those selling the concept of DRM to media companies are selling snake oil. Until experiencing media requires an implant, an acceptable quality copy can always be made, stripped of all DRM."
That is where you are wrong. My new supa-protect(TM) system (with built-in speakers) can be built-in to all media devices. Then the headphone and line-out ports are removed and the whole thing is sealed.
The supa-protect system adds noise signals to all output from your music player. Any recordings of this music will inevitably include this unbearable noise.
If anybody attempts to open the device, it explodes.

In The Simpsons, the loudest part of the whole piece - as played on Sky One - is the theme tune. It is really pointlessly loud. I think they do it to bypass the regulation saying that the adverts can't be louder than the programme. They have a few seconds of really loud "programme" (the last bit of The Simpsons theme tune) and then they play all their commercials just below that volume.
So if they tax each email at a rate of, say, 25% per email, that would be 25% times ZERO equals... um... ZERO! But of course, the lack of any revenue per email will be made up for by the quantity of email. Zero times "some really huge number of emails" equals... um... uhhh... that "really huge number" is too big for me or any politician to figure out off the tops of our heads, but I'm sure it equals some really big number.
Well, duh, they will tax it with a flat rate. The article says 1 cent for 100,000 emails.
Different apps require different magic_quotes and register_globals settings (so we have a ton of different servers - management loves spending money on new machines). The code is unmaintainable.
Here's a tip for your.htaccess if you're using Apache:
php_flag register_globals off php_flag magic_quotes_gpc off
I would suggest you at least put together on the same server apps which have to communicate between each other. Then it's probably not worth the time.
I learned parts of it at about 13, and learned it properly just last October or so (at the ripe old age of 16). I strongly recommend it. It's simple and yet incredibly powerful and expressive.
It elevates the permissions of the process that attempted to delete the file for long enough for it to delete the file. Or something like that.
It's a bit like sudo. It should have said "You do not currently have permission to delete this file. However, you can delete it by switching to Administration Mode."
I don't think I've read such a thoroughly well put together response to criticism in my life. I think it would be irresponsible simply reduce their reply to "they simply don't agree? what an ego!" when it's more akin to "for X reason, we don't acknowledge this criticism."
But sometimes, X reason was no more than "we have contacted the original author, (name), and he does not agree with the reviewer." I mean, so what??
You must be old here.
Most of these are hardly "wars". Just consumer choice.
If you buy an LCD, it won't become obsolete when Plasma "wins the war" (wtf?)
Similarly for most of those items. My Toshiba PVR will still be useful if TiVo wins some sort of war.
"to-mah-to" is the norm in the UK. "To-may-to" sounds extremely American.

Duh... it was red!
"not to mention how many companies would leave the EU rather than convert would be far too great (likely in the trillions)."
So you think TRILLIONS of companies will leave the EU?
Dude, the whole world population is only 6 billion.
Duplicates? On Slashdot? Surely you jest, sir!!!
"Tell me what you think makes more sense."

What do you think?
So what type of worker was cleaning your hospital? "Illegal" or "native"?
What's a car crash?

The ACID2 test does not just test compliance. It also tests "graceful fallback" - something Amaya has never been interested in.
Here's something handy I often insert at the top of my scripts:
if ($_GET['s']) { highlight_file(__FILE__); die(); }
I'm pretty sure that's how to do it. "s" is for "source".

Dude... how can you stand teaching the steaming pile of shit which is the ICT GCSE?
What *do* you teach then, and what years are you teaching?

The title of the terminal window was "MS-DOS 3.2".
OK, I know that they say it's for those with disabilities, but it came to mind.
The wink indicated he was joking. But you forgot - another way is to redistribute it (for love or money) claiming you wrote the code.
Recently there was a new link added to the "toolbox" in the left column (below the search box):
:)
"Permanent link"
That should save you a bit of time.
It's worth saying that this is unlikely to work when almost all of those with a strong alternate POV can't access the Internet or speak English.
- Most people in Africa
- Dead people
- Chinese rice farmers
Now somebody needs to post after me and name a few issues this could affect, because I can't think of any.
