You think they're outsourcing to strange places on earth....wait till they can get into space where pretty much no one can claim you're in their tax jurisdiction!!!
How many people are buying a new $650 phone, but have a car so old it doesn't have Bluetooth?
Well, right now, I"m contemplating buying a used Viper 2009 era...or maybe a '75-'76 Trans Am 455 4-speed, neither of which natively have bluetooth, or really much of any computer.
With the TA, I likely will put in a more modern radio, but less likely to do so with the Viper.
And, not everyone trades cars ever 2 years. My current fun car, my daily driver is a 2005 I got after Katrina.
My favorite thing about it is...it is PAID FOR...and no, there is no BT in the car...wasn't around then, but it only has about 74K miles, and is running and looking great...why replace it, unless with something fun...so the other two car possibilities are additions to the collection, not replacements.
I'd gladly pay extra for good Plasma Screen TV's....
My current one is still working just great...59" Samsung higher end one I got a few years ago.
I'll be sad when it goes down and I have to move to LCD or whatever is out by then...but for movie watching, the DEEP blacks alone make my Plasma the way to watch....
I'm surprised they haven't kept developing and come out with a "High End" Plasma with 4K, etc....and sell to a higher end market which IS out there I do believe.
Problem is that it's not only the headphones that will be missed. for some, is also the ability to use the headphone jack connected credit card readers.
You also need it to use something like the Rode SmartLAV microphone....which previously was a great, economical way to mic someone for video shoots.
But also..what if you have a car that has a bit older head unit that isn't bluetooth or otherwise wireless capable and need the jack to plug your phone into it to play?
There's lots of use for that mic jack...can't believe they're wanting to drop it, doesn't make sense.
It always amazes me when white people complain they can't use "nigger" even though black people use it when referring to each other, and they start whining about political correctness and freedom of speech.
What do you mean white people don't use the word nigger? Plenty of them do....
There's the old adage that might illustrate this better.
ntil suddenly you realize that "OK Google" and "Hey Siri" and now "Alexa" are listening to you all day and all night (even when you talk in your sleep) just to make sure that they catch the one time you call them.
That's why I don't own these devices....and with Siri....I disable it from listening.
And while it was a bit of a fun novelty when I fiirst got a phone with Siri on it...I rarely if ever find myself using it, I don't see much use in it.....I may just disable it entirely.
Especially while out in public, I don't want to be shouting into my phone annoying folks around me, nor them listening in on my searches, etc.....I just type it in the old fashioned way.
I'll be sure to let the management of my apartment complex know that is an option. I'm sure they will be thrilled and will jump on that immediately. Perhaps they can even convince Google to wire up the neighborhood! Even though Google Fiber isn't available in Houston, I bet they can make it happen.
While it sucks to live in an apt. complex...and have to get whatever one else does...
I would advise people renting or owning houses, to consider getting a business internet connection if you need unlimited broadband.
I have an older grandfathered lower limits one from Cox Cable..but I pay $69/mo...unlimited, no blocked ports (so yes, I can run servers)...and I even have a basic level SLA.
I once reported my service down about 11pm on a friday night....and by a bit after midnight they had someone on the pole fixing things.
You really don't have to show much proof of a "real business" either...I just had to give them a name, etc....
My plan isn't offered anymore, but for only a few dollars more, you get a bit faster up and down, and it is quite reasonable, I think maybe only $80/mo? I think they also have one cheaper than mine too....
But look for business ISP service to your home, often by the local cable company. Cox is a great one if you have them in your area.
During probably ten years of my career I wouldn't have stopped working if I won $1B dollars (I might have taken a short break to line up advisors to manage it though) because I loved my development job -- startup companies can be a lot of fun. I really couldn't imagine anything more fun than those jobs - real enterprise customers, real solid software built from scratch, spirited debate within/between development/marketing/sales/support, a new puzzle (often attached to a crisis) on a regular basis. What's not to love?
Although, I might have begun to have a car and driver or a helicopter take me to/from work discreetly (the commute part certainly wasn't a part I liked).
As for the rest of my career, I would have probably quit and maybe started my own startup (or not -- depending on what ideas I could come up with).
Not me.
I'd party, travel....fun with friends, hobbies I have...chase more women on a full time basis....
But no, I'd never work again. I get absolutely no pleasure from work whatsoever with any job...it is only a means to an end for me, period.
If I had enough money to retire right now, I'd have more than enough cool personal projects to last me the rest of my life.:-)
Same here.
I NEVER understand those folks that say, "I'd keep working even after I won the lottery".
If I won take home of say....$3M or so, upon which I could invest and live off the annual interest, I'd leave skid marks out the door at work. I dunno if I'd even give notice. I likely would, but who knows.....
But seriously I have a TON of stuff I'd rather be doing than working.
Awhile back I had about 7 months off between contract gigs. No big deal, I save just for this....
But may average day, I'd get up, walk the dog...jump on my motorcycle, and hit the gym for a couple hours, back home to do a few things, and generally....jump on my motorcycle (it was spring/summertime) and ride around New Orleans. Some days Id go see one of the many museums here, or shoot pictures in City Park, etc....always something going on here.
I'd do that till about 3pm when my friends would start to get off work...and then go meet them at the bars for a couple of drinks, then home..dinner, etc.
Frankly I could pretty much do that the rest of my life....and if I got bored with that....VACATION to somewhere fun maybe in the US.
Yep, if I had enough money where I didn't have to work...I would NOT.
What I listed above was just fun relaxing about town, but on other days, I have a ton of hobbies and all that can keep me 110% busy and satisfied.
I HATE work. I really do. The only reason I have a job...is to earn money to support my lifestyle (home, toys, chicks, etc) that I enjoy in my life.
Yes, this is exactly what the millions of Americans who are independently wealthy do all day.
Hey, if you can pay for that lifestyle YOURSELF, I really don't give a damn what you do.
When your money to live fat, lazy and no job comes out of MY pocket (taxes), then we have a bit of trouble, and I feel if I"m paying your way, then I get a say in how you have to behave/live/work.
I typically don't have breakfast until 2.5 hours after I wake at 4:30AM and ride the express bus for 25 miles to work, getting my large skinny vanilla latte and breakfast sandwich at the cafeteria. Better to have breakfast after I'm done traveling in the morning. No risk of getting motion sickness and hurling on someone.
WoW!!
So, you spend pretty much 5 hours (2.5 hours each way) a day just traveling back and forth to work?!?!?
I'd shoot myself in the head if I had to do that...wow.
Why do you not work closer to where you live, or live closer to where you work?
I'm not knocking it if that's what you like, I just can't imagine having to drive for more than 15 - 30 min to work each day. That's a LOT of life you're giving up there man.....
To get up that early...what time do you crash at? 8pm?
Do THAT many people actually use the AI's that are out there on a regular basis?
I played with it a little when I got my new iPhone, but the novelty wore off pretty quickly.
I kind of look at it the same way I do those damned phone answering 'robots' when you call any company now, that require you to speak and talk to them, rather than just press a number through the directory.
I freakin' hate that...especially while in a crowded office, or maybe during the day while out and about. I'd rather just press a number, to pick what I want on the directory.
So, much I feel for talking to my phone....I'd rather not intrude on people around me, while I talk into my phone to "find xyz", or look up something. I just tend to type in my search strings silently while not interrupting those that may be around me....
Well, honestly...why should I give a fuck about them?
It's not my problem that they as a civilization picked a hard place to live even under the best of conditions. That's nature....some folks/species get fucked as time moves on.
Each of us has two different roles we play in society, almost like two muscles: a consumer muscle and a citizen muscle. Our consumer muscle is spoken to and validated constantly. Weâ(TM)re called upon to use it every day and, as a result, weâ(TM)re really good at it. Itâ(TM)s overdeveloped so much that being a consumer is our primary role in society so much that the words âoeconsumerâ and âoepersonâ are used interchangeably. At the same time, our citizen muscle has atrophied. So when weâ(TM)re faced with problems as gigantic as disruption of the global climate, we stick with the familiar consumer muscle.
Then there are some of us...and I have to guess NOT an insignificant number, that just plain don't give a fuck.
I know my lifetime is short on this planet, so I'm here to have as much fun, have as good a life with as little inconvenience and down or bad time as I can while I'm here.....
Anything with the global warming consequences, or other nature disasters will come LONG after I'm cold and dead i the ground, and no one will in that time even know my name to curse it....so, really what do I care and why should I put myself out or deny myself the pleasures of this modern world since I'm here such a short time?
I have no problem with those that do, but I personally can't see the upside in it for me....
Well, there's a different between selective breeding, and splicing DNA in from an outside species, like a piece of corn with frog DNA spliced in.
I'd prefer not to eat the latter, while I have no problem with crossing plants of the same species....like how carrots and many cruciferious veggies have been done over the years to give the great varieties we have today.
You think they're outsourcing to strange places on earth....wait till they can get into space where pretty much no one can claim you're in their tax jurisdiction!!!

Actually quite recently, I'm experimenting with HD OTA antennas for the local channels, in my quest to start cutting the cord....
I'm figuring if I can get (and record to DVR) local OTA channels, and streaming...I can get rid of UVerse once and for all......
So, the tuner is a part of the equation.
I'd gladly pay extra for good Plasma Screen TV's....

From my American POV....NO ONE should be arrested for any speech, unless it is DIRECTLY inciting violence against someone at that moment.
There should be no such thing a "Hate Speech" laws.

I didn't know MySpace was still even in existance....?
What do you mean white people don't use the word nigger? Plenty of them do....
There's the old adage that might illustrate this better.
"When does a black guy become a nigger?"
"About 5 seconds after he leaves the room...."
That's why I don't own these devices....and with Siri....I disable it from listening.

The kids gotta learn to start ignoring ads at some point in their life.
Maybe we're looking at this wrong. Educate them early on what worthless advertising is...and train them to ignore it.
This will greatly benefit them as young and older adults.
Not me.

Hmm...where is this mythical place, where it gets "cool" during the summer at night?
Here in the New Orleans area, my A/C clicked on for good about Mid April...and I don't anticipate it shutting off really till about mid November.
We all liked them!!! An actual band with talent!!
I played with it a little when I got my new iPhone, but the novelty wore off pretty quickly.

Worth every penny for that....and also, when going to the French Quarter, don't have to worry about parking, etc.
I don't find it to be that expensive...most rides I take are in the $12-$14 range....
Well, you can call me names...but really, give me a compelling reason to change my mind.
How would changing my opinion stated above, benefit me more...?
Again, I'm on the earth for a very short time, why should I give up and not live life to the fullest of may capability?
Well, honestly...why should I give a fuck about them?

Sex and the City
Oprah
The View
Ellen DeGeneres (sp?)
Ok...most any daytime female talks show.....
and the list goes on...these are just right off the top of my head.
I'd prefer not to eat the latter, while I have no problem with crossing plants of the same species....like how carrots and many cruciferious veggies have been done over the years to give the great varieties we have today.
