Corporations have legal obligations to ensure equal treatment for all genders
As in all 2 genders? I mean, either you have a dick, or you do not....ok, I'll grant you maybe a third one, for hermaphrodites...but those are pretty rare.
I thought you Americans didn't pay taxes. At least, what you pay is nothing compared to what we in Europe pay. But we have healthcare and social security, words you don't even know the meaning of. You should try it sometime: pay taxes and get benefits from that.
If you like that, more power to you.
I'd MUCH rather keep more of my own money, and save and make my own decisions about my own health care...who I go to see, where..what insurance I want.
I've seen how *ahem* efficient the govt. is at things like say, the DMV....I pretty much plan the whole day there if I need to get new plates for the car or something (although they are slowly getting better)....so, I'd rather trust my health care spending decisions to myself, and not put a govt. entity between me and the doctors I choose and the health decisions we make.
Or maybe they think that no matter how bad he would still be better than Romney?
Well, I'm a little of the thought that Romney couldn't get worse that an Obama 2nd term...unbridled by the need for re-election.
And well, we've seen how 'effective' Obama has been...the 'great' decisions he's made, and the 'upstanding' appointments he's made for important positions (Holder, etc) so far. And how he's kept promises (*ahem* no lobbyists *ahem*)
[rolls eyes]
But give him a 2nd term and this time Obama will do better?
What's the old saying?
"The definition of insanity, is doing the same thing over and over...and hoping for a different outcome..."
Yeah, well, Obama campaigned on 'Hope and Change' and people believed that.
The bar is pretty low these days.
I hear ya...in fact, I've even heard a few people are STILL thinking of voting for him again....I guess they are still 'Hoping' something about him and his policies will 'Change' for the better....
We did away with that system because it had become completely, utterly corrupt. Senators were openly bought by large corporations. Sound familiar? I could se moving back to that system, not because it's any better, but only because it would buy us a decade or two while the corporate machine slowly adjusted to the new system and found a new way to buy their way to power (then of course shifting back to what we have today would make sense).
Well, if it at least lowered the price per senator...I'd still be in favor of bringing them back in to being appointed by the state legislators.
Anything is better than what we're currently stuck with....which is WAY too much $$ influence on such a small group.
Not only that, but polling is down to such a near exact science someone *cough* Florida in 2000 *cough* could finagle staffing and access to voting centers which prevent a large population of registered voters passing through to cast their votes, thus throttling the representation of their precinct and overall vote count. i.e. Select some very slow or officious people to staff it, make sure there are no where near enough polling booths, transportation or parking is highly problematic and when the doors shut at 8 PM you've stifled the vote, because you knew ahead of time this area would go against your party.
Why go to all that trouble?
Just do what they did last time, and post a bunch of New Black Panther thugs outside the polling doors, brandishing clubs and bats, and intimidating voters that way.
Cheap...effective, and they won't even get a nod by the justice dept.
As an aside, can you imagine how world history may have been different if Oleg Losev had lived? We may very well have not "won" the cold war, as the impact of the Russians having the transistor decades before us would have had far greater repercussions then just them being able to listen to portable radios before us. One of many of our advantages was that we were using transistors in military technology while they were still using vacuum tubes, whose only advantage was that tubes required less radiation hardening.
Well, on the positive side....because of this, they STILL put out some good quality tubes....for our guitar and stereo amps!!!
Where I'm at there are 3 sets of train tracks about 100yds from my building and I get along just fine. Can't imagine that a few wind turbines would be that much louder..
What about the people that choose to live in a bit better location, away from train tracks, airports...etc.
I'm sure they would be bothered possibly by noises you aren't...since you already live in a noisy (and to many, less desirable) area?
Sounds like she's freeloaded long enough (unless of course, she was home raising kids, that is a job). But if you're 40 or so, guessing she's about that age too, that means if there are kids, they don't need that 24/7 supervision at their age.
Have her go get a job too, and start SAVING money....save, save, save and....save.
Live below your means.
Then, start looking what to do for you...try for mgmt, maybe try keeping up with your skills. Get into govt contracting...long term jobs there with good pay, you just have to be able to pass a security check.
But seriously.....you should be saving all the money you can, and unless your wife is disabled....get her out into the workforce now....
You've got it half right. The american tax system is hopelessly complicated, and should be simplified. But you should also pay more in taxes, not less. Essentially all other countries in the western world have higher taxes than americans, but don't pay (or pay orders of magnitude less) for health insurance, putting your kids through college, and soforth. In total, we have more money for food, paying rent, having fun etc....[snip]
Long story short: Americans are really, really stupid if you fall for the GOP calling Obama a socialist. In the rest of the western world, Obama would be a good way out on the right side of politics
Well, there's good reason...and historic reasons we're not like Europe.
The US was started and still (to some extent) embraces individualism over collectivism.
I've been quite happy with my healthcare...Obamacare is likely going to cost me more in the long run.
While I agree with us needing to revamp our system...this 'solution' was poorly thought out and implemented.
But there is a basic mindset difference in how the US and much of the rest of the world thinks. Like everything, it cuts both ways...but we have a lot of differences from the rest of the world as you put it...and we like it that way. The individual is held above the collective....I'd rather see us get to keep more of our taxes, and allow us to plan and save as needed for all our needs..health..etc.
I would rather keep and use my own money..rather than give it to the govt. who thinks it can care for me better.
It isn't an uncommon thought process over here.
If you like the EU type system....more power to you. I happen to think I'm better at planning for myself, my life and that of my family, than a committee or bureaucracy of a centralized govt.
And while we appreciate your views on the US political scene, and upcoming election....it really is up to US who we want to pick.
Personally, I'd vote for a small soapdish over Obama...I think he is pretty much the worst leader the US has had in a long time (and I was no Bush II fan)...I'm not a fan of Romney, but given the two choices....I can't possibly see giving my support to Obama. I can't imaging Romney would be worse...
For Example... Lets simplify the US tax plan, and get rid of all those loopholes that the 1 percent use to get off tax free.
Well what about deductions for charity?
- Not needed, people keeping more of their tax money will have more to give.
How about investing in your retirement?
- Not needed, people keeping more of their tax money will have more to save for retirement.
Well you have kids?....
- Not needed, people keeping more of their tax money will have more to spend on raising children. And aside from that, why should we even give tax breaks just for people having kids?!
I mean...this is human nature, people will fuck...people will have kids. Is it fair that people with less or even no kids essentially subsidize those that do have more kids?
Taxes shouldn't be used to try to manipulate human behavior...it should be used only for funding essential, constitutionally mandated govt. responsibilities. And...should be just enough to fund said services.
If we had no loopholes, no deductions...we could lower the tax rates, and everyone would have a simple time knowing exactly what they had to pay, what they were paying, and know that everyone was indeed paying, and have some skin in the game.
As for booze? yeah, it should be sold in liquor stores, not in grocery stores.
Why do you say that?
They sell beer, wine and hard liquor in the grocery stores here with I live (in and around the New Orleans area)...and we have no problems with that here....? They sell it all at about anywhere here...even convenience stores (like 7-11) or even at most drug stores even...yes, Walgreens here sells all 3 forms of alcohol.....
You look at someone that is gambling there life away an think it's just a bad decision they can control may not be correct.
So...because a few people can't deal with an adult activity, that the majority of people can handle, and enjoy responsibly...we should always cater to the lowest common denominator and ban said activities?
What's next? The booze industry? Pr0n industry?....hell people likely have OD'ed on Jello before....out with that....
Having healthcare disconnected from employment isn't having someone pickup the tab for you.
Just the opposite....People should be responsible for their own medical dollars saved AND spent.
If they wanted to do it right....let everyone SAVE their own money pre-tax by liberalizing the HSA (Healthcare Savings Accounts), to allow people to save for routine care, much like they budget for utilities, car and house payments...etc.
Then, we could go back to making insurance only for emergencies...it used to be called Major Medical for a reason...it was there for something catastrophic.
There is medicaid already out there for the jobless and destitute....but, I feel anyone that works, should also save part of their money for their routine care.
Individual....at least...we used to be in the US. That 'do it yourself' mentality is what made us great....we've lost that somehow....hence, our downhill slide.
The difference here between health care and auto insurance is that you can opt out of owning a vehicle and driving and not increase the cost for the rest of us.
In many if not most states, you don't have to have auto insurance to drive, if you can show you have bonds or other means of savings to pay for accidents.
Why not make the HSA laws MORE liberal, so I can save for my medical needs pre-tax....and make my own adult medical choices? Why shouldn't it be up to the individual to save for medical care much as we save to pay our utilities, mortgages, rent...etc?
Let me save my own money pre-tax....and then onlly have to pay a very small premium for emergency health insurance.
I remember when it used to be called 'major medical'....and you only used it if you had something catastrophic, like a heart attack.
I'm a responsible adult and know to take care of myself...everyone should be.
Society generally will not allow you to bleed to death on the side of the road just because you refused to pay for health insurance
Maybe we should reconsider this....
Out of curiosity...what happens to our illegal visitors in the US? They're not officially here...so, they're not chipping into this....
As in all 2 genders? I mean, either you have a dick, or you do not....ok, I'll grant you maybe a third one, for hermaphrodites...but those are pretty rare.
To this day...I still can refer in my head to some of those songs for grammar questions....
Eubonics strikes again....
I mean...is there anyone out there that uses 'green' as a deciding factor between models they are considering??
Well, I'm a little of the thought that Romney couldn't get worse that an Obama 2nd term...unbridled by the need for re-election.
And well, we've seen how 'effective' Obama has been...the 'great' decisions he's made, and the 'upstanding' appointments he's made for important positions (Holder, etc) so far. And how he's kept promises (*ahem* no lobbyists *ahem*)

I suppose that depends on what 'group' you belong to, and whether or not you have the 'right' to use such a word.
Well, if it at least lowered the price per senator...I'd still be in favor of bringing them back in to being appointed by the state legislators.
Anything is better than what we're currently stuck with....which is WAY too much $$ influence on such a small group.

Funny...I get the exact same feeling about Obama.
And, that's sounding pretty darned good right about now too. Geez, imagine the damage that guy could have done un-opposed.
I'm no Romney fan, but I'd vote for a small soap dish, with little to no personality over Obama at this point.
He's seriously giving Bush a run for 'worst president ever'.
What about the people that choose to live in a bit better location, away from train tracks, airports...etc.
I'm sure they would be bothered possibly by noises you aren't...since you already live in a noisy (and to many, less desirable) area?

That's because all the illegal immigrants are clogging up the ERs....

No such thing as personal responsibility anymore.
Sadly, I'm not that hopeful on that outlook.
I'm constantly amazed at how much support the current idiot administration has in the US.
People just don't seem to notice what's going on....or just plain don't care.
In many if not most states, you don't have to have auto insurance to drive, if you can show you have bonds or other means of savings to pay for accidents.
