No, but I do have a spreadsheet where I keep track of hours worked and then bill for those hours. I'm allowed to work on weekends. I'm allowed to work at 3AM. So literally every moment that I am not working, there is lost potential income. That said, I don't actually put in many hours because I value my time with my kids.
Ah....working for yourself...man, I miss that.
Hope I can get off the W2 gig and back to that kind of freedom again!!
And I agree...while time is money...the most valuable time is the time YOU spend doing what YOU want....I don't have kids (don't want them), but everyone has things they want to spend their time on....
There are things worth more than making money.....but as long as you make your bill rate high enough, all things even out.
I would think the death of the animal, fish or land creature, is an expected part of the hunt...so, it's pretty much incidental, and you just don't even really think about it....
Does Slashdot STILL not properly render unicode text? I recognize those characters as being Russian characters in UTF-8 being rendered as Latin-1. Shame on Slashdot! ?
Well, to be fair, this is Slashdot, a US based and US centric website.
Not a lot of call for needing to print Russian or other foreign characters around here....
That doesn't change the fact that there's something wrong with a person who enjoys killing other living things. Of course, it's necessary, but the enjoyment of the task indicates some serious mental problems.
So, you're saying all those people that LOVE to go out, and enjoy fishing are mental too? I mean, that's killing other living things too....usually not even fast either, throwing them to flop around on ice in a chest till they die slowly...
I was just asking....personally, I'm not all the worried about emissions. The problems won't really show up till I'm long gone from this planet....so, as long as I have a good life NOW...I'm happy.
As for Kyoto....I don't believe the US is the only one that didn't ratify it....and I've heard others are trying to get out of it, etc.
Something like Kyoto is useless unless everyone signs on...even emerging industrial countries.
Yet another good reason to follow the advice of my atty.
Never take a field sobriety test....all they're doing is using that to collect evidence against you.
If I think I'm close to the limit...or even over it. I just don't say anything, hold out my hands for the cuffs and ask for my lawyer. I mean, in that situatiion, you are going to jail....so, why give them any evidence.
I'm not going to blow or do any tests....so, at worst (this depends on your state) I'll get my license suspended for 6 - 12 mos....and with lawyer, I can get a temporary permit to allow driving for work and to get groceries, meds.
Sure, it is a PITA, but much better than getting a DWI...which costs money, blows your insurance out...and can even keep you out of good jobs.
It pays to know the laws of your particular state.
But the bottom line, when dealing with the cops, the best thing is the world is to clam up, don't say a fucking thing to them...give them no evidence to collect.
It is even more true when you are innocent than guilty at times....shut up, cooperate if they want to arrest you, but know your rights and don't help them out. They're certainly not there to help you...they are there to get convictions.
Online prices will of course be lower, they don't have the overhead, however you have to wait days, weeks for your order, as well as pay for shipping.
Hmm...I buy onlinie 99% of the time over brick and mortar, unless I have to have it THAT day.
But really....with amazon.com (I have amazon prime), I get 2x day shipping...and if I'm really impatient, I can spend $4 for overnight....
But really, for online, it is nicer, I don't pay tax on the item, shipping is free (even without prime, if you order $25 or more, shipping is free)...and really what's a couple days for shipping?
I found with amazon prime...it has more than paid for itself. I can stream movies from them (less per year vs netflix), and I get one book a month from their 'loan' dept for free...so, it is like getting a book which is usually $14-$16 or so a month for free.
That alone makes it worth the paltry $79/yr....and as a side benefit, 2 day shipping for free, no minimum purchase.
About the only thing I used land stores for...is to try out a product hands on, then, if I like it, I go home and order online.
Hell, sales tax down here is almost 10%....I'm about to drop money soon on a new Danon 5D...ordering online I'll save nearly $400 on tax over buying local.
I happen to support some kind of incentive for over-production of food, because I'd much rather over-pay than run out.
Be careful what you wish for....look what that type of thing has done for the US.
The corn industry alone with its subsidies....and encouragement to grow as much as possible...had led to the obesity and general downfall of decent nutrition in the US, which is consequently spreading to other parts of the world now.
What makes you think it would help? The US would vote overwhelmingly in favor of protectionism -- it's a hugely protectionist country despite claiming to want free trade.
Well, to some extent, yes.
However, I'd argue that we in the US would be a little happier if we could at least compete on a more equal basis against the countries that don't worry about pollution and don't have to mess with the added cost of environmental issues.....those countries that pay $1/hour....and those that manipulate their currency unfairly.
I wouldn't mind a tax/tarrif on imported goods, that only brought the cost of the final product closer to what it costs to manufacture in the US based on those type of metrics. That way, all things being even for cost, quality would prevail in the US consumer's decision making.
No, this couldn't be absolute...but as long as it made it reasonably close to equal.
On the US side...I wish we'd get rid of a lot of the subsidies we have on food, like corn products.....so that natural sugar could compete more closely with HFCS....
Scenario: You blew a.04% on the breathalyzer and showed a.03% on the blood test,
Well, considering the legal limit for DWI is 0.08....I don't see them getting a conviction on your for that at all...the blood test alone throws that out.
They might could get you for reckless driving...which is a fine and in some states puts you right up to the limit if they are on the *points* system...but still, won't cause you the grief that a DWI would cause you.
If you don't hit the BAC limit...why would you plea bargain to something that they can't convict you on?
And besides, on most DWI charges, even if they DO get you..if it is first offense, you're not going to jail....fines and community service...etc....
I know DWI laws vary a great deal from state to state, but I don't know of a state that will convict you of or even try to convict you of DWI if your BAC is under the legal limit...especially if by that much as in your example.
Physically addictive drugs like crystal meth, heroin, opium, etc... should not be legalized. You can't trust people to use drugs like that responsibly. The human mind is simply not equipped to handle chemicals like that.
Well, you knoiw...that's freedom. If they want to fry their brains, and likely take themselves out of the gene pool, well, then that's their choice.
I don't think it is the govt or society's responsibility to protect someone from themselves.
I guess hop absorption and steam boil off nothing to you?
Well...honestly...no.
I started out, like some others have posted here, being pretty 'anal' about every measurement, temp, weight....etc.
After awhile I found, well, it all is just like cooking and using nature. You just don't have to worry about being THAT precise. I figure if I have the right temp of volume of water for the weight of grain I have to mash with...well, that's about the largest thing I'm worried about....everything else is measured enough to be 'good enough'.
And doing this...I've had some great batches of beer. It isn't like I'm turning out a product for sale, that has to be consistent from batch to batch. I'm doing this for fun....
Again, to me it is like cooking food...which I love to do too. I rarely follow a recipe....usually only the first time if it is a particular style or cuisine I've not tried before, but after that...well, I know enough cooking to often 'wing it'.....and I never have complaints about the food I produce. Same with beer....relax, enjoy the process. As long as your reasonably close on recipe and reasonably sanitary...nature will take care of the rest. Pour a cold one from the last batch, and enjoy will making the new one!
You have a point though, that facebook can be used to collect quite a lot of information, thats why its important to be aware of these issues, to keep sensitive stuff off it. And/or use a fake surname.
Or, even easier...just don't have any FaceBook accounts.
:)
I've never had one, never will....and my social life and communication with my friends hasn't suffered a bit.
Why are the infirmed and aged owed anything? If you're going for 'you get what you earn' they should just be left to starve to death or die of exposure. You appear to be allowing *just enough* compassion to appease your conscience.
Well, just a personal thing...I take pity on those that are disabled, etc...especially if through no fault of their own (congenital problems, retardation, etc)...and the elderly, well, I figure for the most part, they have worked, and put effort and 'worth' into the system...so, they've earned it when they can no longer provide for themselves.
That being said, I think it should be up to family the most to take care of their own, but for some out there they have no family....so, I don't mind helping them out. I feel a need for personal charity.
I don't really have much of a conscience, but I do have feelings and personal philosophies that I work from...
"I'm on the highway to hell......"
Because you still might get caught....if using something like BT that is.
And I'd dare say, most people out there don't know much about ***net groups.....and let's keep it that way.
Hell, who wouldn't ?
Well, what can I say. I only have one life...it isn't that long, and I'm here to enjoy it to the fullest extent I can.
When I'm gone...no one will know enough about me to sing my praises, or curse my name...so, what do I care about the future.
I'll be dead, and won't be around to know either way how people feel about me or what I did.
Ultimately, you're born alone, you die alone....so, while I'm on earth, when it comes down to it...the ONLY important person in the world...is me.
I would think the death of the animal, fish or land creature, is an expected part of the hunt...so, it's pretty much incidental, and you just don't even really think about it....
So, you think everyone should be a vegan or something?
Well, to be fair, this is Slashdot, a US based and US centric website.
Not a lot of call for needing to print Russian or other foreign characters around here....
So, you're saying all those people that LOVE to go out, and enjoy fishing are mental too? I mean, that's killing other living things too....usually not even fast either, throwing them to flop around on ice in a chest till they die slowly...
And so far, in the US history, it has been the small businesses that have driven the economy and employed the majority of people.
If nothing else, there should at least be exceptions to most of the regulations if you are a business of less than say, 100 people.....
I just have a one person company, to contract myself through...and it sucks the hoops you have to jump through, but you have to do it to :
1. Limit your personal liability
2. Keep the company your working with safe from getting hit by IRS for tax not withheld from 'employee', and for insurance purposes.
3. Keep as much of your hard earned dollars, by writing off every expense you can legally.
So many laws of old and most new ones, just seem almost to target the small businesses for some reason.....
Anecdotal....or do you have evidence you can post to back that up?
Yet another good reason to follow the advice of my atty.
Never take a field sobriety test....all they're doing is using that to collect evidence against you.

I don't see how we're bad at doing that...if we were manipulating out currency, I kinda doubt the dollar would be as weak as it is.
Talk to me when you get China in line with currency manipulation.....
There's a German and French side to it?
I've never been there, but just assumed it was full of Swiss people...speaking one Swiss language....
Hmm...I buy onlinie 99% of the time over brick and mortar, unless I have to have it THAT day.
