I LOVE to dream....even when not lucid, I remember a lot of my dreams after I wake up, and 99% of the time they are pleasant if not downright fun.
I rarely have nightmare dreams....
The worst of them is usually the "waiter nightmare", which is common with folks that worked in the food service business. It's funny that I still occasionally get them even though it has been decades since I was a youngster working in restaurants waiting tables and bartending while in school (I started washing dishes and busboy in HS, and in college and grad school, waited and bartended).
Funny how that sticks with you. Was hard work, but I made great long term friends from those days, and I learned a lot about how to deal with the public and people in general, social skills.....but man, I'd not want to have to do it again.
A recession is due regardless of nationalism. Look back at history: they tend to come roughly every 10 years or so. Meaning one is due. We might be lucky due to Mr Trump's tax cuts and squeeze by a couple years but we probably won't last 15 years without a recession.
Yeah, was watching CNBC last week, and they were talking about how the bond yield curve was flattening....and usually when it starts that, a recession is about 2x years off.
Apparently the situation gets more dire if the bond yield curve gets inverted...
So, this is the same thing they're talking about here as "lucid dreaming"...where you know you are in a dream, and can control things?
I love when that happens, BUT, can't ever seem to stay in that state for any length of time....I end up waking up very shortly after hitting that level....
*sigh*
Man, if they could harness that state and allow you to stay in it as long as possible, talk about a money maker.
Trouble is...it is so pleasant that it likely could become the most addictive "drug" in the world, as that no one wants reality when they can have it all in a dream.
Err...what in the world is racist about asking ID to prove who you are?
you have to do it to get a drivers license, you have to show ID to fly, and for a multitude of things that aren't even nearly as important as voting...yet you bitch about showing ID to prove citizen ship as racist?
I'm wondering why they haven't sued themselves for the underhanded things the Clinton campaign and the upper echelons of the Democrat party did to poor old Bernie Sanders, and basically rigged their primaries for Hillary.
Seems THAT was the major impediment to the Dem party and it was from within, not external sources.
The NRA opposes ANY gun controls, even those supported by the majority of Americans.
ACtually, unfortunately, they do not.
The NRA actually came out in favor of bump stock bans, which it should not have done.
And mean of the gun controls we have today (which we shouldn't have) were supported by the NRA....the 1986 bills for instance were huge.
But even so, they do a good job and do recognize, that the NRA isn't some faceless entity with a mind of its own, it is a lobbying agency supported by millions of legal citizen gun owners that wish to have their voices heard.
That's why I much prefer the contracting route, 1099 vs W2.
Upfront, you negotiate your bill rate, which you base on how much it will take to make you happy, save for retirement, medical insurance, AND....to allow you to miss work for sick/vacation time.
I usually plan for 3 weeks sick/vacation time.
So, I have my minimum number and negotiate for as much above that as I can.
And that way, no one has much to say about when I work, what hours...etc....and if I get the work in on time, and want to take a bit of time off, no one argues much with you.
A ban on AR-15 class weapons would be rather similar to the Reagan-era legislation on owning automatic weapons
PLEASE learn a bit more before you argue a subject.
it is already VERY difficult to legally own an automatic weapon in the US.
With current laws on the books, you cannot as a civilian possess a machine gun (fully automatic weapon, meaning one pull of the trigger will continue to fire until the trigger is released) that was made after 1986.
If you have about $10K which I believe is about the going rate for the cheapest of available low end machine guns in the us...you can find someone that will sell it, but you first must fill out paperwork, get a $200 tax stamp from the BATF, and then you can get that automatic weapon.
The AR platform, a civilian weapon is NOT an automatic weapon/machine gun. They are all just semi-automatic rifles. There are many many semi-automatic rifles out there, that shoot the same ammo (by the way, the AR-15 generally shoots a glorified.22 caliber projectile)....and many even more powerful ammo, but they aren't black, and don't look as 'scary'....but functionally, they are the same or even more powerful.
The AR just is popular due to interchangeable and upgradeable parts....none of which are legal to be sold to convert or use as a fully automatic weapon.
The AR is not an assault weapon, as that I mentioned, it is only semi-automatic, one pull of the trigger fires one shot. Again, MANY if not most other rifles fit that same description. Many ARs have things like pistol grips, or extendable stocks, but that stuff is purely aesthetic...they don't make them more deadly than any other semi-automatic rifle.
By the way....30 rounds is a standard magazine size, it isn't high capacity. Many rifles have that as standard magazine size....but that's another argument.
Anyway, please do note on your future arguments, that the AR platform rifles that the citizens in the US have are not fully automatic weapons. None of the shootings you've been hearing of in any recent times have been done with automatic rifles...they were all semi-automatic.
You clearly have no idea how the rest of the world perceives American gun-fetishists and its associated stupidity.
And you clearly have no idea how little we give a shit how the rest of the world perceives the US gun laws and leanings.
If you're not in the US, why are you even bothered at all how we live and do in our own country'? It has nothing to do with you or effect on your lives.
There is NO God-given right to play with guns. Deal.
Actually, in the US we believe you do...in fact, ALL rights are God given, you are born with them, and then we take and regulate and have laws on some that may curtail some of them. In the US, neither the Constitution nor the government (federal, state or local) gives rights to the citizens, it is the citizenry that gives limited, enumerated rights to the various governments, and here, the states are supposed to have the most say on those laws....at least that's how it is set up to be.
So basically, unless there is a specific law against it, you are born with a right to just about anything or any behavior in the world in the US.
The longest spell I've had between contracting gigs, was like for 7mos awhile back.
My routine was something like,
Wake up
Eat, walk the dog
Go to the gym
Eat lunch
Look for some work, interviews, etc
Usually about 2-3 in the afternoon, I'd jump on my motorcycle and run about town, see museums, etc...and then meet friends getting off work at a bar somewhere....then home, dinner...etc.
Honestly, I never got tired of this life with some variations thrown in.
I figured I'd do something of the sort if I won the lottery, with throwing in travel/vacations when I really needed a change of scenery....but honestly, doing this and hobbies I have, I could be quite happy never working again, if money wasn't a concern.
That last part has a caveat in that I require to keep my level living and spending as I currently have, as that that makes me happy.
nd if it doesn't, it will be your neck in the noose when the mob rises after the unlearned masses CANNOT get a job but MUST have one to survive.
I have guns.....plenty of them.
But if it comes to that kind of mass revolt....eveyone will be in trouble, and the fittest and best armed and prepared will be the survivors.
But given that that's the absolute worst case scenario, I would posit that humans are resourceful, and all through time, people have found something to do to survive and make themselves of value to other people.
The fact that there are billionaires out there who pay $0 in income tax because they structure their ownings to look like a net negative in the eye's of the law (even though their wealth is growing) is frankly disgusting.
Well, if you don't like it..change the laws.
I frankly, can't fault anyone for doing whatever is legally possible to keep as much of their money as possible.
I do it.....pretty much everyone takes as many deductions, or whatever it takes to pay less taxes within the law.
I don't know anyone that is altruistic enough to voluntarily, knowingly pay more than they absolutely have to.
And you think the GOP, NRA and the hundreds of right wing militias are ever going to let that happen? In fact -- that could be what starts armed conflict in the US. Lord knows the NRA have all but called for the slaughter of the Left,
Wow...just....wow.
You really believe that?
Did it never occur to you that the NRA is made up of and supported BY citizens of the United States, and that the organization is there to lobby on their behalf?
This isn't some mindless entity that is trying to push its evil views on the country, it is a representative of the people that value their 2A rights.
If the left wasn't trying to gun grab again....you'd not see this level of animosity that does seem to be brewing somewhat, but then again, what can you expect when you have sections of the US, trying to infringe upon the LONG held rights of many others in the US. You expect them to give up easily?
I'm actually shocked, to see how many people today, and it is mostly youths, that are so willing it seems to voluntarily give up their own rights.
And once you do give up said rights, you pretty much never can give them back.
But using words like slaughter, etc....that's really going above board. No one is calling for that.
If anything, I see more vitriol of that type actually coming from the left these days....they are the ones having the more violent protests these days.
If, however, there ever came a time with there was an attempt at mass confiscation, then yes....you likely would see violence.
I don't forsee it coming to that, but if constitutional rights get stomped on too much, it could get messy.
But do realize...that's what this country was founded upon, you know? Rights were hard fought for....the British didn't really nicely want to give us up if you recall. The founding fathers felt strongly enough to fight for their independence and to have a country with inherit rights.
One of the reasons for the 2nd Amendment, was to have some insurance that the government didn't become too overbearing and intrusive again. It wasn't passed to just assure people they could still hunt food.
I would posit that it is that way for the majority of people.
If I won the lottery tomorrow with enough money to never have to work again....frankly, I don't know if I'd even bother calling into work to let them know I wasn't coming back.
If I didn't have to work, I have a TON of other interesting things I'd rather be doing for fun.
I know there are some few people out there, that do define themselves by their work, but I think that is a very small number, IMHO.
Why do all these articles about basic income keep showing up here? I'm assuming most of us are pulling down six figures (if you aren't and you're in tech, get gud) and wouldn't think of sitting on our asses while collecting a low basic income. So my serious question is: why is "basic income" news for nerds?
Because if it ever comes to this..it will be YOUR ass that is paying for it.
Newsflash: Just giving money away to people for nothing in return, doesn't work, money not growing on trees to fund project as had been previously projected.
Frankly I think the US is in store for a mass civil upheaval, and considering one side is very well armed and "has god on their side", and the other are physically weak, deluded and over-confident assholes, take one guess about which side will win
Hmm....think those are the same types of people that are wanting to take guns away?
Just remember if the wife isn't happy then no one is happy.... so keep her happy and everything should be just fine.
That's why, unless you are planning to have kids, there's no real reason to get married.
Too much risk of losing half your shit.
If not married, then of course you work to keep each other happy, but if things go bad...unfixable, then well, you can more easily ditch her and find someone new that is more accommodating to your lifestyle and aspirations.
Exactly. I do a lot of shopping through Amazon and a few other online places and it has been life changing. It is FAR more convenient for me to have stuff delivered for most of what I buy. I still go to stores occasionally for stuff I need Right Now or if it's conveniently located (like on my commute) or for groceries. But I place somewhere around 100 orders through Amazon and other places a year. The amount of time I save not having to drive around to randomly located stores in my limited free time is hugely helpful.
I'm largely the same...
I order, most likely. the majority of my purchases these days from Amazon....
HOWEVER, one thing I cannot ever picture myself doing, is ordering my groceries online.
I'm trying to eat healthier, and therefore the absolute majority of my items are what you normally find at the edges of the grocery store....veggies, meats, a bit of dairy, and well, here in New Orleans, the grocery stores also sell beer, wine and liquor, so I stock up on those too as needed.
But I'd never trust someone to look at and pick the BEST produce for me. A smart picker for a store would pick out of rotation and try to pick what has been there the longest, and could spoil quickest.
When I shop, I spend the time to look at what's freshest (I often make my menus up based on what looks the best at the store or what is on sale that week). I pick the best produce they have to offer.
When looking at meats, I look for what looks best. Heck, some times, you can look at choice cuts of beef, that actually are marbled as well as prime, and you get a deal.
So, no...I won't trust anyone to pick my food out for me.
I cook mostly from scratch, so, I take a great interest in that food I'm cooking.

He never gave a single example of one of these thoughts the Silicon Valley folks have that are out of touch.
I would agree on many things, they are, but in an article like this, I would expect some specific items they are out of touch with.....
He mentions Facebook and Cambridge....but what about that does he thing they are out of touch on?
And just automatically jumping in with a Trump bash....that just derails any other points he was trying to make.
Poorly written article, with assumptions that everyone things like he does.....without listing out what he thinks.
