Idiot, ignorant rethuglikkkans toss the "socialist" label on just anybody who happens to be around. They're so stupid, they actually call Barack Obama a socialist. If only they had even 1 functioning brain cell, they would know that Barack Obama was the best moderate republican president the U.S has had since Dwight D. Eisenhower. The U.S *has no* meaningful left wing, and even Bernie Sanders would be considered a poseur/moderate conservative by European/Scandinavian standards.
And like I give a fuck about European/Scandinavian standards...?
I was asking a genuine question, from the viewpoint of an American if the Social Democrats in Germany would be similar to what a Socialist in America would be perceived as...
But from the US point of view...Obama was certainly NOT even a moderate leaning politician.
While I'd not say he was a socialist, he was certainly quite a bit more left than a lot of the US, and actually, truth be known, I think he himself would like to have gone even FURTHER left on most issues, but held back to try to not alienate too many in the US.
But I would say Obama is definitely NOT even close to conservative, and Bernie...definitely leans socialist.
One thing I respect about Bernie, at least he is up front about what he believes and is un-wavering.
I disagree with Bernie objectively on almost everything, but I do respect him at least that he picks his views, explains them and stick to them....
I think it is just another symptom of the dumbing down of the general population....
You're talking now about a significant number of the populace that can't read a book, even if it has pictures....and people you can ask "who won the civil war", and will either not know the answer, or answer "America?".
It's just been a steady downhill spiral with the common least denominator dropping at an alarming rate.
Trouble is....I can see it coming....there will be movement to get human driving of cars made illegal and then ONLY AI vehicles will be able to run on the public roads.
A sad day, as that I just bought a new FUN driving car yesterday.....I hope that I'll be long dead and gone before the scenario above plays out, but I see it coming.
I"ve never considered Slashdot to be social media...it is more of a basic forum you post on...to me more akin to the bulletin boards of old and USENET.
I've been thinking of switching from Sam's to Costco, but the last two things I searched, tires & mattresses had a better selection and better prices at Sam's.
I've kept my Sam's club membership along with my Costco one.
There are a 'few' things I get at Sam's that isn't the same brand at Costco, but I find that more and more....I go to Costco and rarely to Sam's.
I admit I"m starting to get a little older, but I"m quite social.
I have a large number of LONG term friends, measured in decades....I text, email and phone with them almost daily...and meet with them to do real things mostly on weekends, but some weekdays.
For those friends not in my immediate area...email, phone, text, FaceTime...etc.
I am lucky that I live in New Orleans...where something is going on all the time, I meet new people at all the music and food fests I go to here...meet folks at the gun range. There are still lots of neighborhood bars here, I know people there when I go for drinks.
And no, not a lick of this is done on social media.
Yes, I was alive before social media, maybe that gives me a leg up on doing all this without it....but seriously, it was done for most of mankind's history before social media...worked fine then, works fine now.
I don't need a ton of "friends" that aren't truly my friends...just clicking a fucking link doesn't make you my friend.
Hell, I have many friends that have keys to my house, I trust them. Those are real friends.
On the weekends, Costco usually has 10 lanes of cash registers with 10 people in line each, with baskets loaded to the top, followed by long long lines to pass by receipt checkers to exit the building...The downfall of "retail" isn't all about Amazon.com and online clicks, it also includes the rise of these warehouse stores that sell superior quality produce and products (except for their accidentally unauthorized jewelry and slightly obsolete electronics) as well as buying basic household goods in bulk to reduce cost in a country that has had depressed wages for twenty years. Because of the lower overhead, warehouse stores can be a much cheaper way to buy things than ordering online from Amazon and still offer some of the seasonal and local customizations that Department stores once did.
I agree.
One of my favorite places to shop is Costco.
When they finally opened one in New Orleans....I found it is like Sam's Club, but on steroids.
I do find I spend a bit more there than at Sam's, but I love the place.
I buy a lot of my weekly groceries there, at least bulk stuff. I get my meats there, and bulk veggies and fruit, and the price works out for me well.
I basically keep my pantry and deep freezer stocked 99% from Costco, and only hit the regular grocery stores for weekly specials...and smaller fresh, perishable items I need....
The largest obstacle I see really is how to deal with snow, which can really block up pretty much any kind of sensor.
I think it's also going to be a bitch to get this thing to drop your boat off at the boat launch...park itself, and then know when to come back to get you after your day at the lake...
Yes, but that's not how relationships work. People want to do things that don't work 100% because for that moment they want that person to have access to such things.
Well, anyone going into a relationship, assuming that it will last forever is an idiot.
We're all human, we all fuck up and most of the time, we split, and not all the time amicably.
So, if you keep that in mind...you'll know it isn't a good idea to let yourself be photographed in nude or sexual situations.
Yes, I suppose that's a reasonable solution, if you never want to receive sexy pictures or video from a significant other. As most people would like to receive such, then blaming the victim and discouraging the practice would seem to be counter to most folk's interests.
I dunno...I've had a lot of relationships over my years, some long term, some not....there's been a LOT of fucking in them all, and yet I've never once felt the need to let myself be photographed in the nude, nor have I taken or asked for pictures of the girls I've been with.....frankly, since I value privacy and don't want anyone else to be in control of my nude likeness....it has never occurred to me to ask for her to send me nudes.
I prefer to see her naked in person, you know?
Perhaps it is a generational thing...but hey, my advice still works.
If you're stupid enough to participate in that stuff...then you get what you deserve.
Really? I mean, the first one is haunting us now with sever overreach of Federal Govt. waaaaay above and beyond what the Constitution enumerates as its responsibilities and limited powers....
Hmm...perhaps we can screw with the Supreme Court again like FDR did back in his day, to allow for more "New Deal" overreach?
I might decide to just stop what I'm doing and do 50 push ups while thinking about a problem, and then afterwards spend 10 minutes doing nothing from a camera's POV. In my mind, I'm churning through really complex data models and trying to make sense of it all which is absolutely focusing on the work at hand.
Not that long back, I'd just go outside for a smoke, and ponder things...and by the time I'd finish, I'd have a solution to try as I came back indoors.
Man...wish there was a way to smoke that didn't kill you....those smoke breaks were great little "mind clears" during the work day.
That and you get up from your desk...and often socialize while outside with your fellow smokers.
What was nice was, the BIG wigs were often out there too and you could get some face time with them that was otherwise hard to get.
but I've been poor, and I would never buy produce. It's expensive. It goes bad quickly, so a lot of it just ends up getting thrown out,
I've been semi-poor...as in college student poor, working, going to school...etc.
I like to cook and I'm able to....I found that I bought whatever produce was on sale, and would look at the mark down bin for meat.....and I would eat like a king for less money that others were spending for FF.
Yes, I do eat leftovers, so nothing is wasted....and if there are bits and pieces laying in the fridge, they don't go to waste...that's what jambalaya is for....
We already do, they can get their Obama Phone ......
I still get tickled at this....
And like I give a fuck about European/Scandinavian standards...?

So, are Social Democrats over there the same thing as what we could call "socialists"?
A sad day, as that I just bought a new FUN driving car yesterday.....I hope that I'll be long dead and gone before the scenario above plays out, but I see it coming.
[goes and throws on Red Barchetta....]
I guess it sucks to be them.....
Next topic?
LOL....

I've never felt the need to join FB or other social media to date.
I have no problem interacting and deal with friends and meeting NEW ones in meatspace.
I guess I've just never felt compelled to being a voluntary part of their product they sell.
Probably more jobs in the muslim terrorist industry....they're pretty packed with the furry critters over there. I hear they have lots of problems....
I agree.

Or other social media for that matter...get out there and meet, deal with and interact with REAL people in meatspace.
FB isn't a news source....
Hmm....it ain't gonna be pretty in about 30+ years....nothing of that fashion written as the famous people of today day.
Snoop Dog - Dead today at age 88, smoked a lot of dope, drank Gin and Juice.
Sad.....
Only 60mph?
Hell...down here we do that through neighborhoods with small children.....
[scoffs]
ON the Hwy I keep it usually pegged between 90-100mph if I'm not in too big a hurry.
I think it's also going to be a bitch to get this thing to drop your boat off at the boat launch...park itself, and then know when to come back to get you after your day at the lake...

Don't fucking let someone take pictures or video of you naked and/or having sex!!!!
Sheesh....when did something like common sense about not letting someone take pics of you in compromising situations go out the fucking door?
Yep...just what we need.
If they had not tried to unionize, they'd likely still all have jobs!!
I mean geez, if you're not making money, the last thing you want to do is make it even MORE expensive to do business, right?
Does no one exhibit common sense these days....?
Not that long back, I'd just go outside for a smoke, and ponder things...and by the time I'd finish, I'd have a solution to try as I came back indoors.

Who said I'm not?
I'm not arguing for tax evasion here...that is illegal.
But I do pay the absolute minimum I am legally required to pay.
I expect nothing more from any other person or entity.
I am not morally obligate to pay $0.01 more than I am legally obligated, and neither is anyone else.
How about that?
I've been semi-poor...as in college student poor, working, going to school...etc.
